RENO, NV (Oct. 2) — Well October is here and, even though its summer like, we’re really into fall. More racing to come for the motorcycle group but the oval track season is coming to a close. However there are many more car meets to come.
CAR MEETS:
• Thursday starts at 8 a.m. when the Iron Mafia meets at Kim’s Donuts. Location is 1328 U.S. 395 in Gardnerville.
- That evening is when Junkee presents its monthly Volkswagen Night. Location is the back parking lot at 372 Casazza Drive in Reno.
• Friday is when the White House Nevada starts its weekly Friday-Saturday cruises. Location is 402 E. Telegraph Street in downtown Carson City.
- To the east there is the Friday Fernley Meet. It starts around 6 p.m. at the 76th Station.
• While its not cars this weekend the Reno Air Show is at Stead Airport. It’s three days and on Friday there is an evening show.
- For those that race with the Northern Nevada Kart Club their track, Desert Park Raceway, is closed for practice this weekend.
- Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. is when Reno Area Dirt Riders are having a BBQ and watching the Air Show. Location is at the end of Lemmon Valley drive on the side of an up hill. Might want to bring your binoculars as well, should be a great time.
- • While Saturday is empty this weekend two groups have meets.
- Sunday, starting a 10 a.m., Reno Cars & Coffee has their first meet of the month. Location is 3380 Kietzke Lane, by the Human Bean Coffee stand.
- Not far away, Reno Jeeps & Coffee has their first meet of the month. Starts at 10 a.m. and location is the Human Bean Coffee stand at the corner of Longely lane and South McCarran.
RACING (4-WHEEL):
• The big event in our region is the 38th Annual Dirt Track Championships that ends the season at Rattlesnake Raceway. Two days of racing and a driver’s overall finish determines if they win the championship as well as a year of bragging right.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCYCLES):
• To the east Winnemucca is hosting Round 9 of this year’s BBMX series. Saturday is for practice and the very popular Stacyc race for the youngest riders. Sunday is race say for everyone else.
• REP Racing has a full schedule including practice at Riverfront Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. The Sandbox MX track in Fernley has practice on Sunday so be sure to sign up at www.repracingmx.com.
• Praire City is hosting a race for Sierra OTHG for Saturday and Sunday. They are also doing a special event to help the American Cancer Society.
• MMX Racing is hosting the “Riot in the Riverbed,” races, an AMA District 36 event. Two full days of racing.
• E Street MX Park is hosting Round 12 of the P.R.O. Motocross Summer Sundayz series. It’s the final event for this year.
• Further west Stillwater Motocross is starting the Fall Brawl series. Saturday is for practice while Sunday is race day.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Fox Sports has Kevin Harevick’s Happy Hour.
• Friday begins at 10 a.m. when Fox Sports 2 has qualifying from Talladega Super Speedway for the Craftsman Truck Series. Then at 1:30 Fox Sports 1 has the Craftsman Truck race.
• Saturday starting at 8 a.m. CBS Sports Net shows Mobil 1 The Grid. Then at 9:30 a.m. www.mavtv.com has the first TransAm race from Virginia International Raceway.
- NBC Sports App at 8:30 a.m. has Xfinity qualifying then at 10:30 the USA network airs the NASCAR Cup qualifying from Talladega. Fox Sports 2 at 1 p.m. has ARCA Racing from Toledo, Ohio.
- Also at 1 p.m. www.cwtv.com shows the Xfinity race from Talladega. Then at 7 p.m. mavtv has the Australian Supercar race from Townsville.
• Sunday begins at 7:30 a.m. when TruTV broadcasts the MotoGP event from Motegi, Japan.
- NBC, at 11 a.m., has the NASCAR Cup race from Talladega, another elimination race in the Playoffs. Usually a lot of action in this race.
• At 10 a.m. mavtv comes on to broadcast the second TransAm race of the weekend from VIR.
- CBS Sports Network, on a same day delayed basis, airs several races from the FIM Motocross of Nations World Championship in England. Best wishes to the American team over there
That’s it for this weekend. Over the next few weeks, due to the weather many things are shutting down. So if possible be sure to attend a race or a car meet, as you’ll meet some great people there
