RACING & CAR MEET PREVIEW: SEPT. 19 TO 22

RENO, NV (Sept. 18) — Fall starts this weekend and while oval tracks are closing down there is still more racing to come in our region. Not to mention all kinds of car meets as well as racing on TV.

CAR MEETS:

• Once again the Iron Mafia gets the weekend rolling when they meet at 8 a.m. Thursday. Location is Kim’s Donuts at 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.

• On Friday, starting at 6:00 by the 76^th Station it’s the weekly Friday Fernley Meet. Good way to meet other car people and unwind from the workweek.

         -That same evening the White House, located at 402 E. Telegraph St. in Carson City begins two      nights of cruising. Times are 6 until 9 p.m. every Friday and Saturday.

• Saturday starts early when Fallon Cars & Coffee has its next meet. Times are 8:30 to 11 a.m. and location is the Alley Bar at 1555 South Taylor Street in Fallon.

• Saturday is when the Nevada Jeep Club is hosting its 2^nd Annual Hunter Lake Trail Run. If one is coming from Reno meet them at the Raleys on Caughlin Ranch Road. Those coming from Carson City should meet at the Shell Station at 705 North Carson and the convoy north starts at 8 a.m.
• Caleb’s Angels has a Show ‘N Shine at the Sun Valley Community Park on Saturday. Times are 9 until 2 p.m. with judging starting at noon. Location is 115 West 6^th Avenue and all makes and models are welcome.

• At 10:30 a.m. the next Hamburger and Chocolate Tour begins at Baldini’s Casino in Sparks. The cruise travels to The Red Hut Café located at 3660 Lake Tahoe Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe, Calif.

• Down in Carson City 395 Motorsports is having a Show N’ Shine for motorcycles. Times are 1 to 3 p.m., all bikes are welcome and there are many trophies to be awarded.

• That same afternoon 1^st Choice Automotive and Restoration are hosting the 4^th annual Car Party. It’s a free event, there will be awards, food and the location is 850 Marietta Way in Sparks.

• Sunday is a somewhat quite day as Sparks Cars & Coffee meets at 10 a.m. by the Starbucks located off Disc Drive. From Sparks go north over the hill on Pyramid then turn right at the first signal and the Starbucks is by the second signal on the right.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

• To the east Summit Raceway is hosting it’s season ending Gold Rush Race featuring 14 classes. The show is Friday, with racing starting at 6 p.m., and Saturday with a 4 p.m. for the start of racing.

• To the west Friday and Saturday is when the 2024 Norcal Finals are run. The venue is the Prairie City complex and Nor Cal Rock Racing is staging the event.

• Closer to home the Northern Nevada Kart Club has its season ending event Sunday. Practice followed by qualifying usually gets going around 9 a.m. Then each class races to heats followed by the mains that will determine class championships.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

• The Fernley Sandbox MX track has practice from 8 until 1 p.m. Sunday.

• No word from the 95A Motorsports Park MX track for practices sessions.

• Round 8 of the BBMX season is this weekend at Riverfront MX. Signups are now open.

• There will be a Stacyc race for the youngest riders on Saturday at the event. All the sign ups are now open and the place for that is www.battlbornmx.com.

• Prairie City has practice from 8 until 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

• MMX Racing also has a busy weekend. Saturday they have a District 36 Grand Prix. Racing will start at 7:30 a.m. and there is a full day of racing.

• In addition there will be practice sessions on from 9 until 2 p.m. on the Main and Kid’s tracks. Then Sunday from 9 until 3 p.m. there is practice on the Main, Sand and Kid’s tracks while its OSMX Ride Day on the Vintage track.

• E Street MX Park from 9 until 2 p.m. has practice Saturday and Sunday on the front and back tracks.

• This weekend is the next MRANN race presented by the Whatever MX. It’s the Donkey Kicker 150, a point-to-point race.

• Saturday is when the Big Bikes, Amateur, Expert and AA groups race. Sunday begins with the Pee Wees followed by the rest of the classes. Location is a mile, up the hill from the Toulon exit off I-80, which is west of Lovelock.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday starts when Fox Sports 2 at noon shows Craftsman Truck Series qualifying from Bristol Motor Speedway. Then at 2 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has ARCA Racing from Bristol followed at 4 p.m. by Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour.

• Friday gets rolling at 3:25 a.m. when ESPN airs the Formula 1 practice #1 then at 5:55 has #2 as the series visits Singapore.

• The USA network comes on at 11 a.m. with Xfinity practice and qualifying from Bristol when at 1 p.m. shows NASCAR Cup practice and qualifying.

• At 4 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NHRA Qualifying show #1 from Charlotte. Then at 4:30 the Xfinity race from Bristol Motor Speedway is shown on what I believe is the USA Network.

• Saturday starts at 5:30 a.m. when TruTV airs the MotoGP Sprint race from Misano. Then at 5:554 a.m. ESPN 2 has Formula 1 qualifying from Singapore.

• Peacock & www.imsa.tv have IMSA Weather Tech Sports Car qualifying from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

• Peacock at 1:30 p.m. airs Race Day Live. Then at 7 p.m. the network airs the final Super Motocross World Championship race from Las Vegas.

• Earlier, at 4:30 p.m. the USA Network shows the NASCAR Cup event from Bristol Motor Speedway. This is the next round of the playoffs and racing at Bristol has been described as rocket ships in a bathtub.

• Sunday begins at 3:30 a.m. when TruTV broadcasts the MotoGP race from Misano. Then at 4:55 a.m. ESPN broadcasts the Formula 1 event from Singapore

• Fox Sports 1 at 10:30 a.m. has the NHRA Qualifying Show #2 from Charlotte.

• At 8:30 a.m. Peacock starts the broadcast of the IMSA Weather Tech Sports Car race from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Then at noon NBC takes over and show the rest of the race.

• Then at noon Fox Sports 1 comes on to broadcast the NHRA Carolina National finals from Charlotte, North Carolina. The race is a 4-wide event and is the next in the Count Down to the Championships.

That’s it for this weekend. As we head into the fall there will be a blizzard of races and car events over the next couple of weeks.

• On Sunday, October 13 at 1 p.m. the Nevada Car Coalition is hosting a meeting at the National Auto Museum in Reno. All clubs are welcome as they are planning the 2025 Summer Salute that happens in May.

• Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.

He recently started his broadcasts so check Face Book around 6 p.m. Wednesday. He also posts during the week.
