RACING & CAR MEET PREVIEW: SEPT. 12 TO 15

RENO, NV (Sept. 12) — Fall officially begins next weekend but there are many car meets to attend plus races to see live. There are also several races to watch on TV as well as the Internet.

CAR MEETS:

• The Iron Mafia gets the weekend rolling with their weekly meet that begins ate 8 a.m. Thursday. Location is Kim’s Donuts at 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.

• Friday is a little busy and things start at 4 p.m. when Summit Racing has its next to last car show of this season. There is a raffle and one can get pictures of their car taken.

• Starting at 6 p.m. is the season’s last Fernley’s Friday Night Cruise. This is the final one for this season so just look for where the cars gather.

• Also in Fernley, starting at 6:30 p.m. is the weekly Friday Fernley Meet. They gather at the 76^th Station.

• The White House, located at 402 East Telegraph in Carson City is where the Weekend Cruise starts. Times are 6 to 9 p.m. every Friday and Saturday.

• Saturday is a busy day as well. At 9 a.m. at the Human Bean located at 3300 E. Highway 50 it’s Cars & Collectibles show. There will be raffle prizes, donuts and collectibles.

• ModCo Wheels starting at 9 a.m. has the Rock the Rigs, a free show where all makes and models are welcome. Location is 3765 Barren Way in Reno.

• Starting at 11 a.m. is a Poker Run/Park & Show. Location is at McHoppers Brew Co. at 396 Highway 95A in Fernley.

• Saturday starting at 11 and going until 7 p.m. the VFW is having a car show. Location is 255 Historic Lane in Reno. There will be music, fire dancers and a BBQ.

• The Summit Church, located at 7075 Pyramid Way, is hosting the 5^th annual Show N’ Shine. It’s a free show where all years, makes and models are welcome. There will be food trucks and music.

• Sunday is when Northern Nevada Classics has the 4^th annual Hounds & Hot Rods show. Location is the west parking lot of Baldini’s Casino at 8865 South Rock Blvd.

Times are 9 until 3 p.m. and there are prizes and raffles. Part of this year’s show is a Pin Up Contest. The meet is to benefit the Northern Nevada SPCA.

• Starting at 10 a.m. is when Reno Cars & Coffee has it’s next meet. Location is by the Human Bean Coffee stand at the corner of Moana and Keitzke Lanes.

• That same day, starting at 10 a.m., Reno Jeeps & Coffee will meet. Location is the Human Bean Coffee stand located at the corner of South McCarran and Longely Lane.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

• To the east Rattlesnake Raceway is honoring one of its regular competitors that passed away suddenly this year. Friday night’s racing is a regular show but Saturday is the Alan Dias Memorial.

         – Dias raced in the Street Stock Division and a bunch of businesses contributed to make increase he purse. There will probably a way for those to contribute to his family to help with their expenses.

• This weekend is the season ending event at Top Gun Drag Strip where the class champions will be named. Friday, from 2 until 7 p.m. is the test ‘n tune time.

• Saturday is a big money day for several classes, gates open at 7 a.m., Summit ET and Jr. Dragster racing begins at 8:30 a.m. Sunday gates open at 7 a.m. with the Summit ET and Junior Dragsters start racing at 8:30 a.m.

• Since it is the final weekend of the season there is a cook out Saturday. After the final race is over the track will start cooking hot dogs but they ask people to bring a few things like drinks, chips and snacks.

• This weekend the VORRA off-road series hosts the Stomping Grounds 300 outside of Yerington. This time cars, trucks and UTV’s will be racing and for further information please check www.vorraracing.com.

PRACTICE & RACING (MOTOCROSS):

• The Fernley Sandbox MX track will have practice Sunday from 9 until 2 p.m. but one needs to be registered. To do that go to www.repracingmx.com.

• MMX Racing has practice Saturday from 9 until 2 p.m. on the Main, Sand & Kids tracks. Then Sunday from 9 until 3 p.m. and they’ll add the Vintage track to the mix.

• E Street MX Park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

• Club Moto has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The Argyll MX track has the same practice schedule.

• Riverfront MX has a busy weekend. There is practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday.

• Friday is Sierra OTHG camping then practice from 9 until 2 on Saturday. Sunday is race day for the 12^th annual 2-Stroke Race presented by Sierra OTHG at Riverfront MX.

• Prairie City has a private ride day from 9 until 2 on Saturday. Sunday is race day for the Women’s Dirt Bike Racing Association.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday at 4;30 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour.

• Friday ESPN 2 has Formula 1 practice at 1:25 a.m. and 4:55 a.m. from Azerbianjan.

• Fox Sports 1 at 2 p.m. has ARCA Racing from Watkins Glen then at 4 p.m. has NHRA Qualifying show from the Reading Nationals.

• Saturday starts at 1:25 a.m. when ESPN 2 has the third Formula 1 practice session. Then at 5:55 a.m. the network has Formula 1 qualifying.

• NBC Sports App at 6 a.m. has Xfinity practice and qualifying from Watkins Glen.

• Peacock a 6:30 a.m. has Race Day live. Then the USA network has round 2 of the Super Motocross World Championships from Fort Worth, Texas.

• NBC Sports App at 8:30 a.m. has NASCAR Cup practice and qualifying from Watkins Glen. At 11:15 a.m. Peacock has Indy Car qualifying from Nashville then at 2:15 their final practice.

• At 1 p.m. www.mavtv.com has the first race for the MotoAmerica Super Bikes from COTA, outside of Austin, Texas.

• Sunday starts at 3:55 a.m. when ESPN broadcasts the Formula 1 race from Azerbaijan. Then at 9:30 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has NHRA Qualifying show #2 from the Reading Nationals.

         -Mavtv comes back at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m on to show the second and third race of the MotoAmerica Super Bike series from COTA.

• Fox Sports 1 has coverage of the NHRA Reading Nationals at 11 then at 1:30. This is the first race in the Count Down to the championships.

• The USA network at noon broadcasts the NASCAR Cup event from the classic road course at Watkins Glen, New York. This is another race in the playoffs.

• NBC and Peacock team up at 12:30 p.m. to air the season ending Indy Car race. This time they are in Music City, Nashville.

Whew, that’s it for this weekend. Boy oh boy are there a lot of car meets not to mention racing both live and on TV.

• As many know Douglas High graduate and X Games champion suffered a life altering injury this summer. There have been many fund raising events to help him and his family with the medical expenses.
