RACING & CAR MEET PREVIEW: AUG. 22 TO 25

RENO, NV (Aug.21) — Well here we are, the final weekend of August. For some it means back to school, for others it’s almost the end of summer. No matter as the car meet buffet is over flowing and racing is in the air.

CAR MEETS:

• Thursday begins at 8 a.m. when the Iron Mafia has its weekly meet at Kim’s Donuts. Location is 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.

Great way to end Thursday is to cruise up to Chilcoot Frosty and be part of their car show.
  • Later that afternoon, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. is when the Chilcoot Car Show happens. Take 395 North, turn west on Highway 70, over the hill and it’s at the turn off to Frenchman’s Lake.

• Friday afternoon, beginning at 6 p.m. is the Fernley Friday Meet. Meeting place is at the 76th station.

The White House in Carson City is where the Friday and Saturday evening cruises begin.
  • Friday is when the Carson City Weekend Cruise begins at 6 p.m. at the White House, located at 402 E. Telegraph Street in downtown Carson City. Times are 6 to 9 p.m. every Friday and Saturday.
Saturday is when the Fallon Cantaloupe Car Show happens. The Rusteration Garage are hosting the event.

• Saturday begins at 8 a.m. when the Cantaloupe Festival Car Show begins in Fallon. The Rustoration Garage is the host and there are a many prizes to be won. There is still time to register on-line.

Cars & Coffee Incline Village has a meet Saturday morning.

         – Also starting at 8 a.m. is a meet hosted by Cars & Coffee Incline Village. The meeting place is Tunnel Creek Café located at 1115 Tunnel Creek Road over at Incline Village.

Cars & Stripes Classic Car Show happens this Saturday. Benefits a veteran’s group.
  • In Reno, starting at 10 a.m., there is the Cars & Stripes Classic Car Celebration. Address is 33067 Kietzke Lane, right in front of the Sportsman Warehouse. Easy access from the 580 Moana Lane exit. The function and raffle benefits a veteran’s group.
The National Automobile Museum has car talk this Saturday.

         – Back in Reno the National Automobile Museum presents Car Talk. Show starts at 9 a.m. and location is 1 Museum Drive.

  • Later on Saturday, starting at 4:30 the Reno Evo Club has a Carson City meet at the Dutch Brothers Coffee stand located at 1231 Carson Street. From there they’ll cruise to Lake2o at Tahoe.

• Sunday gets rolling with three car shows and two of them start at 10 a.m.

  • Sparks Cars & Coffee meets by Starbucks located at 171 Disc Drive. Take Pyramid north and after the hill turn right at the signal, look for the Starbucks sign and pull in there.
There is a Friendship Day car show in Gardnerville on Sunday.
  • To the South it’s the Friendship Day car show. Check in starts at 8 a.m. with a 10 a.m. start and the location is the P&K Ranch in Gardnerville.
Sunday is the season’s final Brunch ‘N Classics car show art Baldini’s Casino.
  • At 11 a.m. the final Brunch ‘N Classics meet starts in the west parking lot of Baldini’s Casino in Sparks. It’s the Grand Finale for this summer and there are trophies and cash prizes handed out.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

Winnemucca Regional Raceway hosts the Gene Winters Dwarf Car Regional this Friday and Saturday.

• To the east Winnemucca Regional Raceway is the site of the Gene Winters Dwarf Car Regional. Racing starts at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and the regular classes round out the show.

Quincy Speedway is in action this Saturday night.
  • To the west Quincy Speedway is in action Saturday night. The program starts at 6 p.m. and the track is located by the Fairgrounds in East Quincy.
Lovelock Speedway ends its season this Saturday. Class championships will be decided then.
  • Lovelock Speedway ends its season Saturday with the Challenger Race. Racing usually begins a bit after 6 p.m. and all the regular classes should be there as that’s when the class championships will be settled.
Saturday is when NNKC has it’s annual Night Race the Rick Jerome Memorial.
  • The Northern Nevada Kart Club is hosting its annual Night Race. The event honors one of the club’s founders, the late Rick Jerome.
Here is the race day schedule for NNKC’s night race.
  • Open practice begins at 8 a.m. while the regular practice starts at 2 p.m. followed by qualifying and Heat 1. After dinner is the second heat and mains where several drivers put decorative lights on their karts and helments.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

The annual Outlaw Flat Trac races are at Fuji Park in Carson City this Friday and Saturday night.

The biggest event in our area are the Outlaw Flat Trac races at Fuji Park on Friday and Saturday. Friday’s races begin at 6:30 and has the annual a race between firefighters and police.

Friday is a chance to help Matt Buyten. The Douglas High grad, who has won several X-games titles suffered a major injury. Donations, t-shirt sales and entry fees on Friday will go to help his medical expenses.
  • That night is a fund raiser to help Douglas High School graduate Matt Buyten, who suffered a bad crash a couple of months ago and is now in a wheelchair. Proceeds from t-shirt sales, entry fees and donations will go help his medical expenses.
  • Saturday afternoon is when the amateurs get their chance on the oval. Then, starting at 6 p.m. the pros take over for practice, qualifying and their races. While it might be a cool night the racing will be as hot as ever and the flagman is a show as well.

  • The Fernley Sandbox MX track has practice from 8 until 1 p.m. Sunday. Normally a rider needs to sign up at www.repracingmx.com.

• Over the hill there’s a mix of practice and racing this weekend.

  • Prairie City has practice sessions from 8 until 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Riverfront MX is where the first round of the Saturday Night series begins.
  • This weekend Riverfront MX has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday. Saturday starts the first round of the Saturday Night Series and sign ups are open at, www.repracingmx.com. The track is closed Sunday.
Even though there is racing at MMX they also have a practice schedule for this weekend.
  • MMX Racing has a busy weekend starting Thursday, from 9 until 2 p.m. with practice. On Saturday from 9 until 2 p.m. practice is on the main and kid’s tracks. Sunday practice, from 9 until 3 p.m. adds the vintage track to the mix.
The Sand Track is where MMX Racing will stage the next round of the Summer Sundayz series.
  • The Sand track at MMX is where the next round of the P.R.O. Summer Sundayz series will be run. Saturday is for practice while the race is on Sunday.
E Street MX Park hosts an AMA District 36 Grand Prix this Staurday.
  • E Street MX Park hosts a District 36 Grand Prix on Saturday. Gates open at 6 a.m. and it will be a full day of racing. On Sunday, from 8 until 1, there is open practice.

RACING NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL:

• On Thursday, starting at 2 p.m. www.mavtv.com airs the Supercar race from Townsville. They have some wild racing in this series.

• On Friday the USA network at 2 p.m. has NASCAR Cup qualifying from Daytona then at 4:30 they broadcast the Xfinity race from there.

• Saturday begins early at 5:55 a.m. when ESPN 2 has Formula 1 qualifying from Zandvoort, which is in the Netherlands.

  • At 7 a.m. Peacock has Race Day Live then at 10 a.m. shows the final round of the Promotocross series. This Saturday they are racing at Crawfordsville, Indiana on the Ironman Raceway.
  • Later at 4:45 p.m. Peacock and www.imsa.tv show Weather Tech Sportscar qualifying from Virginia International Speedway.

  • The day ends at 4 p.m. when NBC has the NASCAR Cup race from Daytona International Speedway. Only two races to go before the playoffs start so every point is critical.

• Sunday is a busy day was well and starts at 5:55 a.m. when the Formula 1 race at Zandvoort begins.

  • At 9 a.m. USA and Peacock team up to bring the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar race from Virginia International Raceway.
  • Fox Sports 1 at 10 a.m. broadcasts the ARCA Racing event from Milwaukee. The network continues at 1 p.m. when it shows the Craftsman Truck Series race from that track.
  • The Indy Cars are in Portland, Oregon this weekend. Their race begins at 12:30 and is shown on either the USA or Peacock network.

Here’s a chance to help clean up part of our public lands so they can continue to be used for recreation.

A little over two weeks from now is when the Reno Area Dirt Riders has a clean up on the East Peavine area. It starts at 8 a.m. Saturday, September 7th and ends at noon. There are raffles and prizes for those that show up.

  • It’s a way to help clean up things so the public land can be used for recreation. A good chance to improve our area and those wanting to help will be welcome just come prepared with gloves and proper clothing.

Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.

Davey’s American Racing keeps track of racing in the west and national events.

He recently started his broadcasts so check Face Book around 6 p.m. Wednesday. He also posts during the week.
