RENO, NV (Aug. 14) — While Hot August Nights may have ended there are more to come with races, car meets and what’s on TV as well as the Internet. It’s a full buffet this weekend.
CAR MEETS:
• As usual the weekend gets rolling at 8 a.m. Thursday when the Iron Mafia has its weekly meet. Location is Kim’s Donuts at 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.
• There is a trio of cruises and meets on Friday. Starting with Summit Racing that has a cruise in from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Location is on East Glendale in Sparks.
- Starting at 6 p.m. it’s the Friday Night Meet in Fernley. Location is at the 76th Station.
- The White House, located at 402 East Telegraph in downtown Carson City, from 6 until 9 p.m., is the meeting place for a Friday and Saturday night cruise.
• There are three very different events on Saturday.
– Starting at 9 a.m. there is a Cars & Coffee meet sponsored by Western Nevada College. Location is Carson City Toyota and its in collaboration with the Workforce, Career and Technical Education departments.
- At 5:30 Saturday there is the next Carson City Cruise nights, it starts at 5:30 and the meeting place is O’Reillys. This might be the final one for this summer.
- Down at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, starting at 6 p.m. there is a truck and tractor pull event. Should be pretty wild and be sure to bring earplugs.
• Sunday also has a trio of events. Starting at 8:40 a.m. Fallon Car’s “N” Coffee has a meet at the Alley Bar located at 1555 S. Taylor Street. One can also register for next weekend’s Cantaloupe Festival Car Show.
- Closer to home Reno Cars & Coffee has a meet starting at 10 a.m. by the Human Bean Coffee stand. The location is close by the corner of Moana and Keitzke Lanes.
- Not far away Reno Jeeps & Coffee is having a meet also starting at 10 a.m. Location is the Human Bean located at the corner South McCarren and Longely Lane.
• This week there is a meet on Monday from 4 until 7 p.m. at Pizzave located at 670 E. Prater Way in Sparks. It’s the Pizzava Classic Nights hosted by the Nevada Classics Club.
RACING (4-WHEEL):
• Biggest race this weekend is the Casey Folks Vegas to Reno off-road race. It’s almost 500 miles across the desert that ends around Dayone. Timing and updates can be found at www.bitd.com.
• The only oval track in Northern Nevada racing this weekend is Battle Mountain Raceway. I believe starting times will be around 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
RACING AND PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• The Fernley Sandbox MX track has practice Sunday from 8 until 1 p.m. Remember you have to sign up at, www.repracingmx.com.
• Riverfront MX has practice Thursday from 5 until 10 p.m. then is closed this weekend as they are changing the track.
• Prairie City MX on Friday from 8 until 1 p.m. has a ride day for Sierra OTHG. Then Saturday and Sunday, from 8 until 1 p.m. has open practice.
• E Street MX Park on Saturday, from 8 until 1 p.m. has open practice on the front and back tracks. Sunday, from 8 until 1 p.m. is a ride day for Sierra Old Timers.
• MMX Racing is very busy this weekend. On Saturday they have an AMA District 36 Grand Prix, which is a full day of racing. The Main, Vintage and Off Road tracks will be used for this.
- MMX Racing also has practice sessions and on Thursday that is from 9 until 2 p.m. using the Sand and Kid’s tracks. On Saturday there is more practice from 9 until 2 on the Sand and Kid’s tracks. Then Sunday’s open practice is from 9 until 2 on the Vintage, Main, Sand and Kid’s tracks.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• Thursday at 6 p.m. the second Supercar race from Darwin, Australia will be shown on www.mavtv.com.
• Friday starting at 1:20 p.m. Peacock airs Indy Car qualifying from Madison, Wisconsin. Then at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has ARCA Racing from Michigan then at 5 p.m. airs NHRA Qualifying Show #1 from Brainerd.
• Saturday is busy and starts at 5:30 a.m. with TruTv has MotoGP Sprints from Spielberg.
- Peacock comes on at 7 a.m. with Race Day then at 10 a.m. has the latest Pro Motocross round from Budds Creek MX Park in Maryland.
- Then at 9:30 a.m. the USA Network broadcass NASCAR Cup practice and qualifying from Michigan followed at 12:30 a.m. with the Xfinity race.
- Mavtv comes on a noon with the first MotoAmerica Superbike race from Mid-Ohio.
- At 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA 2Fast2Tasty event from Brainerd.
- Then at 3:30 p.m. USA and Peacock team up to air the Indy Car race from Madison.
• Sunday begins at 4:30 a.m. when TruTV airs the MotoGP race from Spielberg. At 10 a.m. Fox Sports 1 airs the NHRA Qualifying show.
- At 11:30 the USA Network broadcasts the NASCAR Cup race from Michigan. A bit earlier, at 11 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has ARCA Racing from Illinois.
- Fox comes on at noon with the NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals from Brainerd Raceway. This is the Penultimate round before the U.S. Nationals on Labor Day weekend, which determines those racers in the Count Down to the championship weekend.
- For the two-wheel crowd at noon MAVTV has the second MotoAmerica Superbike race from Mid Ohio.
Whew another weekend of car meets, cruises, motorcycle races and a full buffet of racing on TV. If possible do get out and see a race live or a car meet.

• At next weekend’s Flat Track races in Carson City the racing community is reaching out to help one of their own. Matt Buyten, who is a Gardnerville native, was recently injured.
He’s finally home in Texas after two months in a hospital. The Friday entry fees and t-shirt sales will be donated to help Buyten with his medical expenses.
• Reno Area Dirt Riders are gearing up for a clean up on East Peavine. It starts at 8 a.m. Saturday, September 7th.
- There are a bunch of sponsors helping in this effort and hope if possible readers will let them know this is appreciated.
