FALLON, NV (Aug. 10) — While many were celebrating Hot August Nights in Reno and Sparks others were either racing or spectating at Rattlesnake Raceway.
Saturday began with a water balloon battle between the kids in attendance as well as track officials and drivers. Once that ended and after the area was cleaned up, it was time for racing.
When the Street Stock feature began Kent Knisley was on point and being chased by Cooper Lee. Behind them Joe Conroy was moving toward the front.
Soon Cooper Lee headed for the pits. By now Conroy took the lead while Knisley headed for the pits. There were a pair of quick cautions that followed.
Now Conroy was on point but being chased by Ryan Parkhurst and Jeff Willis. Two more cautions slowed the pace but each time the green came out Conroy took off with Parkhurst and Willis chasing him.
At the checkered Conroy won followed by Parkhurest and Willis. On his victory lap Conroy stopped by the starter’s stand and gave some things to kids in the crowd.
Next up were the Northern Sportmods and on the green Connor Metz took off and lead for a while. Getting loose going through Turn 4 gave the lead to Jake Snowden. Then Metz was involved in a three-car tangle in that same turn and had to be towed to the pits.
On the restart Jake Snowden, who had taken the lead took off followed by Colton Blankenship. Behind the leader there was a nose-to-tail as well as a side-by-side duel for second between John Schilling and Blankenship.
In the end Snowden won while Schilling took second and Blankenship ended up third.
Sadly only three IMCA Modifieds were on hand. James Thibodeaux, who made the trip up from Tonopah, won the feature followed by Nevin Kennemore and Tyler Jones.
When the green waved on the 10-car Mini Stock field Kent Knisley took the lead. Behind him Cooper Lee was on a charge and soon took the lead.
Things slowed when two cars tangled in Turn 4. When the green waved again Lee was on point with Knisley and not Jorden Riley were chasing him.
There was another caution when Skia Gilmore stopped in Turn 3. On the restart Lee took off only to slow and pit a few laps later causing a caution.
When racing resumed Riley was on point with Knisley and Joseph Cook giving chase. By now Lee had returned and started working his way through traffic and finished fifth.
Up front Riley scored the victory while Knisley was second him. Stephen Crook used a steady drive to finish third and Joseph Cook finished fourth.
Now it was time for the IMCA Stock Cars and on the green Ray Blankenship was on point but soon was replaced when Jacob Dias took the lead.
Blankenship would spin while Jeff Olschowka had worked his way into second. Soon, using a back stretch pass, Olschowka was in the lead.
There was a caution when a car spun. On the restart Olschowka took off with Kennemore and Cody Morris were giving chase.
In the end the top three weren’t that far apart but Olschowka won followed by Kennemore and Morris.
The nights show ended with the Bootleggers, who ran the track backwards. On the green Dodge Turner and Joseph Keough dueled for the lead.
Behind them Daniel Keys was doing his best but his car gave out. Up front Keough won followed by Turner.
Next up for Rattlesnake is two nights of racing with Friday, starting at 7 p.m., being a regular show. Saturday is a special event.
A few weeks ago a long time racer passed away suddenly. Saturday’s race is the Alan Dias Memorial. There is a pretty good payoff for the Street Stock winner, the class Dias raced in.
There will probably be a fund-raiser to help the Dias family. And on Saturday there will be a bike given away to a boy and girl.

• Matt Buyten, a graduate from Gardnerville High School and many times X Games champion is facing medical expenses after a crash ended his riding days.
On Friday, August 23rd, at the Flat Track races in Carson City the proceeds from the sale of t-shirts are being donated to help him. If you can make it to Friday’s show please consider buying a t-shirt.
• Just a few weeks from now the Reno Area Dirt Riders are having a clean up on East Peavine, off North Virginia Street. They’ll be picking up trash and having abandoned vehicles taken away. If you can help please show up and be sure to dress for work.
• This Tuesday, starting at 6:30 p.m., Trucks & Tacos of Northern Nevada will meet at Jalapenos. Location in Sparks is 295 Los Altos Parkway, Suite 101.
• Sparks A&W, across from Reed High School, will have another cruise-in starting at 5 p.m. Wednesday evening. There are prizes, music and usually some nice cars to view..
• Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.
He recently started his broadcasts so check Face Book around 6 p.m. Wednesday. He also posts during the week.
