RENO, NV (July 24) — Another hot weekend is ahead of us. Besides what’s on TV there will be racing and a host of car meets in out area. It’s only another week or two until Hot August Nights.
CAR MEETS:
• Things start rolling at 8 a.m. Thursday when the Iron Mafia meets at Kim’s Donuts. Location is 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.
- That afternoon the NAPA Auto Care Center at 669 Linden Street in Reno is having it’s 2nd Annual Customer Appreciation BBQ. Time is 4 until 7 p.m. and there will be food, beverages, food trucks, a car show and a raffle.
- Down in Carson City they are having the next-to-last Thursday Night Cruise. Times are 5 until 7 p.m. and meeting place is Nevada Coin.
• On Friday and Saturday, from 6 until 9 p.m. the White House in Carson City is hosting weekend cruises. Location is 402 E. Telegraph Street.
- Friday, starting at 6:30 p.m. is the weekly Fernley Meet. Location is the 76th Station on Main Street.
• On Saturday the Walker River Paiute Tribe is having a car show. All types of vehicles are welcome and the location is Schurz, Nevada (South of Fallon and north of Hawthorne.).
- Be sure to check as the Reno EVO Club may have a meet Saturday evening.
• Sunday is when Sparks Cars & Coffee is hosting its next meet. Starts at 10 a.m. and the location is by the Starbucks off Disc Drive. If coming from Sparks take Pyramid over the hill and turn right at the signal for Disc Drive.
RACING (4-WHEEL):
• Winnemucca Regional Raceway is having two days of racing on Friday and Saturday. Racing begins at 7 p.m. both days.
• The Northern Nevada Kart Club is hosting this season’s Race #5 on Sunday. It’s a full day of racing and one can pre-register online.
• Sunday is the annual Fair Races at Quincy Speedway. Grandstands open at 5 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. Best suggestion, go early as they have a great county fair next door then a short walk brings one to the race track.
Be sure to check the track’s Face Book page first as there is a fire close to Portola and it might affect the highway.
PRACTICE & RACING (MOTOCROSS)
• Received word they are working on getting the motocross track at Reno-Fernley Raceway going again. Don’t know if it will be this weekend but one might check their website.
• The Fernley Sandbox has practice Sunday from 8 until 1 p.m. One needs to register on-line at www.repracingmx.com.
• Over the hill E-Street MX Park on Saturday will be the site of a District 36 Grand Prix. A full day of racing Saturday but don’t know if there is practice Sunday.
-Sierra OTHG will be racing at Argyll MX this weekend. Practice is Saturday and Sunday is race day.
- MMX has practice from 9 until 2 on the Sand and Kid’s tracks then from 9 until 2 on Saturday with the Mina added. Sunday has practice from 9 until 3 p.m. with the Vintage track added to the mix.
- Due to the expected heat River Front is closed Thursday. On Saturday from 8 until 1 p.m. they have a DCMX Ride they from 8 until 1 p.m. and open practice from 8 until 1 p.m. Sunday.
-Prairie City has open practice from 8 until 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONALLY):
• Thursday at 6 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour.
• Friday is an open day to check other sites like www.youtube.com and www.floracing.com for highlights. By the way You Tube has been carrying highlights from the Australian Super Car Series.
• At 5 p.m. Saturday Fox has the NHRA 2Fast2Tasty Challenge from Sonoma Raceway. Then at 4 pm. Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA All Star Call Out from the Sonoma Nationals.
- At 5 p.m. Fox Sports airs the ARCA Racing event from Salem.
• Sunday begins at 5:55 a.m. when ESPN broadcast the Formula 1 race from the classic Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
- Then at 1 p.m. Fox airs the NHRA Sonoma Nationals. It’s the second stop for the NHRA’s annual western swing.
That’s it for this weekend. It will be hot out there so be careful and if possible attend a race or car meet. You’ll see some live action at a race and/or find some great people at the car meets.

• Less than a week away is the fund raiser for Ryder Thomaselli, who is working to cover the expenses of competing at this year’s ISDE event in Spain. The event is at Bike Night at PJ&CO on South Wells.
• Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.
He recently started his broadcasts so check Face Book around 6 p.m. Wednesday.
