RENO, NV (July 17) – Heading into another hot weekend, one full of car meets and oval track racing. There is also a lot on TV as well.
CAR MEETS:
• Thursday gets going at 8 a.m. when the Iron Mafia holds its weekly meet at Kim’s Donuts. Location is 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.
- That evening the next Thursday Night Cruise in Carson happens. Times are 5 to 7 p.m. and the meeting place is the Empire Ranch Country Club.
• Friday starts the 37th annual Run Whatcha Brung hosted by the Karson Kruzers. Registration Friday is from 5 until 7 p.m. is at the Gold Dust West then the show is at Mills Park, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday.
- That same evening starting a 4 p.m. is the next Cruise-in at Summit Racing Equipment in Sparks. Location is East Glendale just across the tracks.
- To the east, starting at 6:30 p.m. is the next Friday Fernley Meet. Location is the 76th Station on Main Street.
• Saturday starts at 8:30 a.m. as Fallon Cars “N” Coffee has a meet at the Alley Bar. Location is 1555 S. Taylor Street. All cars are welcome.
- There is an Alzheimer’s Car Show Fundraiser from 10 to1 p.m. Saturday. It’s at the Lodge Assisted Living and Memory Car Community at 2200 E. Long Street in Carson City.
- The next Hamburger and Chocolate Tour starts at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Meet at Baldini’s Casino and the tour is headed for the Minden Meat & Deli at 1595 U.S. Highway 395 North in Minden.
- That evening, from 4:30 to 9 p.m. is Hot July Night. Location is at 2680 E. 9th Street in Reno.
• Sunday starts at 9 a.m. when Northern Nevada Classics host at Charity Show and Shine for the Relay for Life. Location is Baldini’s Casino in Sparks and there will be raffles, trophies, music as well as food trucks.
- Reno Cars & Coffee meets by the Human Bean Coffee Stand at 10 a.m. Sunday. The stand is close to the corner of Moana and Keitzke Lanes.
- Not far away Reno Jeeps & Coffee has their meet starting at the same time. Location is the Human Bean Coffee stand located at the corner of South McCarran and Longley Lanes.
RACING (4-WHEEL & WATER):
• There is a very different racing event this weekend that begins Friday and runs through Sunday. It’s Round 3 of the Wild West Watercross series. Three days of Jet Ski racing at the Sparks Marina.
• To the east Lovelock Speedway has two nights of racing. Starting time Friday is 7 p.m. while it’s 6 p.m. Saturday. And it’s NAPA Night at the races.
• To the south the Tonopah Speedway presents the Gene Winters Memorial Race. The Friday and Saturday show begins at 7 p.m. each night and the combined points winner for the weekend will pocket $1,000.
• On Sunday, starting around 6 p.m. Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville has the annual Fair Races. All the regular classes will be on hand.
PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• The Fernley Sandbox MX track has practice from until 1 p.m. Sunday. Remember one must sign up on line at www.repracingmx.com.
• There is a two-day Riding Clinic at Moon Rocks put on by Ryder Thomaselli, Austin Serpa and Zane Roberts. All skill levels are welcome and the proceeds will help fund Ryder’s trip for the ISDE in October.
• Prairie City MX has practice from 8 until 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
• Riverfront MX has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday evening. Then practice from 8 until 1 p.m. on Sunday.
• MMX Racing has practice, through September 1, from 9 until 1 on Thursday. On Saturday practice is from 9 until 2 p.m. on the Main, Sand and Kid’s tracks. Then on Sunday times are 9 until 3 p.m. and the Vintage track is added to the mix.
• E Street MX Park has practice from 8 until 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• Thursday is an empty day filled with reruns. So if you missed any thing try www.youtube.com, www.floracing.com and www.mavtv.com.
• Friday starts at 2:30 p.m. when Fox Sports 1 has ARCA Racing from the Indianapolis Motorspeedway. At 3:30 p.m. the network has the NHRA Qualifying Show #1 from the Northwest Nationals then at 5:30 the network has the Craftsman Truck Series race from Indianapolis.
• Saturday begins at 9 a.m. when Peacock has Race Day live then at noon that network and NBC has the next Pro Motocross race from Washougal, Washington.
- At 12:30 p.m. the USA network airs the Xfinity race from Indianapolis.
• Sunday begins at 5:55 a.m. when ESPN broadcasts the Formula 1 race from Hungary.
- At 10 a.m. Peacock comes on and airs the Indy Car race from Toronto, Canada. Another course where drivers will race between walls and have to be inch perfect. Fox Sports 1, at that same time has the NHRA Qualifying show #2.
- NBC comes on at 11:30 and will air the NASCAR Cup race from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
- Finally FOX airs the final rounds of the NHRA Northwest Nationals from Kent, Washington. The series starts its annual western swing from there.
