STEAD, NV (July 14) — What looked like a great day for racing Sunday was cut short by Mother Nature. Only one main was able to get going and that had to be shortened.
As is usual the Kid Kart class was the first to run their main event. There are the youngest drivers and this class starts them on earning their racing spurs.
After going around the track they lined up for a standing start. One the green was on off they went with Franco Morales leading Josus Calvo and Baxton.
This turned into a three-way duel for the lead. As they circulated the track the skies turned dark and a light rain started.
As the rain increased Morales held the lead but the event was called after five rather than the usual seven laps. Shiflet wound up second with Calvo finishing third.
After that everyone sought shelter as the skies opened up with a downpour and winds. There was even lightning not too far away.
After seeing all the water in the pits and track the officials decided to cancel the rest of the day. It would take too long to dry thing so racing could resume.
There was an announcement that, with the exception of the Kid Kart main the second heat would be used to determine a driver’s finish and if they earned an award.
The Kid Kart results and 2nd Heat results are at the end of this article.
Next race for NNKC is on Sunday, July 28th. Hope Mother Nature smiles on that event.
