RENO, NV (July 10) — Despite summer’s heat wave car meets are hotter than ever. And there is some racing in our region, not to mention what is on TV.
CAR MEETS:
• As usual the Iron Mafia starts the weekend rolling at 8 a.m. with their meet at Kim’s Donuts. Location is 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.
- That evening, from 5 until 7 p.m., is the next Thursday Night Cruise in Carson City. This time the meeting place is San Marcos on East Winnie Lane.
• There is a special event, from 5 until 7 p.m., Friday at the National Automobile Museum. It’s the Battle of the Car Clubs where one car belonging to one club will get the trophy and a year’s worth of bragging rights.
- To the east there is another of Fernley’s Friday Night Cruise nights. Believe it starts at 6 p.m. and one can also join the Friday Night Meet at the 76th Station. Should be a good time, not to mention lower gas prices.
• Saturday in Carson City, starting at 9 a.m., is the annual Downtown Revival Car Show. It’s open to all makes and models.
- Then at 5:30 p.m. it’s the Carson City cruise night. Location is 318 N. Carson Street at Paleteria La Tapatia.
• Sunday starts at 10 a.m. when Sparks Cars & Coffee has its first meet of the month. Location is by the Starbucks off Disc Drive, which is off the Pyramid Highway.
- Then, from 11 until 2 p.m., Northern Nevada Classics has another Brunch ‘N Classics meet. Location is at Baldini’s Casino at 865 S. Rock Blvd. in Sparks.
• This coming Monday the Northern Nevada Classics presents Pazzava Classic Nights. There is music, food as well as beer specials and the address is Pizzava at 670 E. Prater Way in Sparks.
RACING (4-WHEEL):
• The only oval track in action this weekend is the Battle Mountain Raceway. It’s a Friday-Saturday show and action should begin around 6 p.m. or shortly after that.
• On Sunday the Northern Nevada Kart Club is hosting a round of the Gold Rush Club Challenge. Track #6 will be used and on-line registration is now open. Will be a full day of action with practice, heat races and mains.
- If the Wifi cooperates the racing will be streamed on Karting Life. For further information please check the club’s website.
RACING & PRACTICE (Motorcycles):
• There is a different motorcycle race Saturday. Out at Salt Wells the Mason Valley Dirt Squirts are staging the Summer Classic Team Night Race. Time to tune the bike for off-road and put some lights on it.
• REP Racing has Riverfront MX, Prairie City MX and the Fernley Sandbox in action this weekend. Remember to practice at the Sandbox one must sign up online at www.repracingmx.com.
• E Street MX Park has practice from 8 until 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The start early as its cooler and both the front and back tracks will be open.
• When this article was posted there was no news about the MX track at Reno Fernley Raceway.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• Thursday is when www.mavtv.com has a couple of interesting broadcasts. At 4 p.m. it’s Supercars from Perth, Australia then at 7 p.m. they cover the GT4 part of this past weekend’s Pike’s Peak Hill Climb.
• Friday is slim but at 2:30 p.m. Fox Sports has the Craftsman Truck Series from Pocono.
• Saturday starts at 7:30 a.m. when Peacock airs Race Day Live. Then at 10:30 they are this week’s round of the Pro Motocross series from Spring Creek MX Park in Millville, MN.
– At noon the USA Network broadcasts the Xfinity race from Pocono. Then at 3 p.m. mavtv has the first race from the MotoAmerica Superbike event at Laguna Seca.
– The day ends when NBC has the first of two Indy Car races from Iowa Speedway.
• Sunday begis a 8 a.m. when USA and Peacock team up to air the IMSA Weathertech Sports Car race from Canada.
- Then at 9:30 NBC and Peacock broadcast the second Indy Car Race from Iowa Speedway.
- At 11:30 the USA Network has the NASCAR Cup race from Pocono or the Triangle as many call it.
- The day ends at 3 p.m. when mavtv broadcast the second MotoAmerica Superbike race from Laguna Seca.
That’s it for this weekend. If possible do get out to a car meet or a race. There is nothing like it.
