RENO, NV (July 3) — It’s a huge holiday weekend with racing, cruises, car meets and of course fireworks. It’s also going to be very hot to be careful out there.
CAR MEETS:
• Once again this holiday weekend begins at 8 a.m. when the Iron Mafia has its weekly meet. Location is Kim’s Donuts at 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.
• To the east Fallon will have its 4th of July parade. There should be cars not only from Rattlesnake Raceway but from the local Cars & Coffee group.
•Here in Reno on the 4th, Junkee presents the monthly Volkswagen Night in their back parking lot. Location is 372 Casazza Drive.
• To the south there will be another Thursday Night Cruise, starting at 5 p.m. in Carson City. Meeting place is the Save Mart located on North Carson Street.
• Friday there is a Cruise-in at Summit Racing. Starts around 5 p.m. The store is working on building on what it used to be.
• To the east the Friday Night Meet in Fernley will be going. Starts around 6 p.m. and they meet at the 76th Station on Main Street.
• Saturday is pretty slim, time to get into a cool place. One cool place, starting at 6 p.m., will be the Starbucks at 4809 Kietzke. That’s where the Reno EVO group will meet.
• Sunday gets going early. At 10 a.m. Reno Cars and Coffee meets by the Human Bean Coffee Stand that close to the corner of Kietzke and Moana Lanes.
• Not too far away Reno Jeeps and Coffee meets, staring at 10 a.m., at the Human Bean Coffee Stand located at the corner of South McCarran and Longely Lane.
RACING (4-WHEEL):
• Things get rolling at Rattlesnake Raceway. Not only will there be racing but the town’s fireworks are there. And there will be more racing on Friday as it’s a two-day show.
-Grace Productions has added some incentive to the IMCA Stock Car class for the Friday night race.
• To the east Summit Raceway in Elko has two nights of racing on Friday and Saturday. There is even a pit crew challenge Saturday night.
• Further north Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville won’t have it’s usual 4th of July show. Instead there will be racing on Saturday, starting at 7 p.m., with reduced prices as well as a meet and greet so racers can meet their young fans during the Intermission.
RACING AND PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• As far as this reporter knows the Fernley Sand Box and the MX track at the Reno-Fernley Raceway are closed at least for now.
• Over the hill MMX racing is planning early practice, from 8 until 1 p.m. Thursday. What happens this weekend depends on the heat and it doesn’t look good.
• All the REP Racing tracks, Riverfront MX and Prairie City are closed this week. Probably due to the heat wave we are having,
• There will be some racing as Round 5 of this year’s P.R.O. Motocross Summer Sundayz series will be run. Location is the Argyll MX track.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• On Thursday, starting at 7 a.m. www.mavtv.com will air the 2024 Isle of Man Marathon. Want to see a crazy race on streets watch this.
• Friday is pretty empty but a good chance to check sites like www.floracing.com and www.youtube.com for events you may have missed.
• Saturday begins at 5:30 a.m. when TruTv airs the MotoGP Sprint race from Sachsenring
• Then at 7 a.m. Peacock has Race Day Live. At 10 a.m. the network has the first motos from this week’s Pro Motocross event at the Red Bud course At 11 a.m. NBC takes over and shows the second motos.
• This weekend NASCAR races between the walls in Chicago. On Saturday at 12:30 p.m. NBC has the Xfinity race.
• Sunday starts at 4:30 a.m. as TruTv has the MotoGP race from Sachsenring.
- ESPN2 comes on at 6:55 a.m. with the Grand Prix of England run at the classic Silverstone track.
- NBC and Peacock return at 11 a.m. when they bring the Indy Car race from Mid Ohio. Apparently its not the easiest track to drive so there could be some interesting situations.
- The day ends at 1:30 p.m. when NBC airs the NASCAR Cup race from Chicago. Now the drivers race between walls and need to be inch perfect.

- This is a rare weekend as I’m coming off surgery after spending five days in the VA Hospital. On the road to recovery but still have to take it slow for at least another week.
- As a result there will be no race coverage again this weekend. I was really looking forward to it but decided to take it easy. Will do car meets and next week hope to resume my race reporting.
• Only a week to go before the National Automobile Museum presents the Battle of the Car Clubs. The winning club earns a special trophy and a year’s worth of bragging rights.
• Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.
He recently started his broadcasts so check Face Book around 6 p.m. Wednesday.
