RACING & CAR MEET PREVIEW: JUNE 27 TO 30

RENO, NV (June 26) — Summer is really here and the car meet scene has really heated up. This coming weekend is kind of a lull for several tracks as they prepare for the 4th of July.

CAR MEETS:

Iron Mafia gets the weekend rolling Thursday morning.

• Things get going at 8 a.m. Thursday in Gardnerville when the IRON Mafia hosts its weekly meet. Location is 1328 U.S. 359 North.

Thursday evening has another cruise in Carson City.

         – That evening, from 5 until 7 p.m., is the next Thursday Night Cruise Location this week is the   Wing Stop located on South Carson Street.

There is another Friday Night Cruise in Fernley.

• This Friday is the next Friday Night Cruise in Fernley. Look for all the cars and make it an enjoyable way to end the week, not to mention the lower gas prices out there.

Saturday evening there is a Celebration of Life for David Zeigler.

• Saturday there will be a celebration of life cruise for long time car group member David Zeigler. Assembly point is the Sparks A&W located a 1311 Baring Blvd. After they have enough cars there will be a cruise through Sparks.

The Nevada State Museum is having a function to raise more funds to restory a pick up.

• As this is the fifth weekend of the month there is usually no Cars & Coffee meets. However the Nevada State Museum, located at 600 North Carson Street is hosting a function Saturday to raise funds for a restoration project. They plan to restore a 1967 Chevy Pickup.

Sam’s Club in Reno is having a car show for a good cause.

• On Sunday, from 10 until 2 p.m., Sam’s Club is having a car show for a good cause. Address is 4835 Kietzke Lane and the function is to benefit the Children’s Foundation.

RACING (4-Wheel):

Winnemucca Raceway has racing this Friday and Saturday night

• To the east Winnemucca Raceway is hosting two days of racing. I believe they start racing at 7 p.m. each night. Last race before we get to the 4th of July weekend.

Legacy Racing Association is staging the two-day Baja Nevada event this weekend.

• To the south Legacy Racing is hosting the two-day Baja Nevada desert race. In fact while this article was being written the racers were qualifying.

As it is a two event all the racing vehicles will be impounded Friday evening.

Since it is a two-day event all racers will be impounded Friday evening then turned loose Saturday morning.

Should be a wild event.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

• Well heat is taking its toll in our area since our tracks here don’t have trees to shade thing.

• So here’s what I’ve got. The Sandbox is closed through June while the MX track at Reno Fernley Raceway also might be closed.

This weekend Battle Born MX is racing at the Elko County Fairgrounds.

• To the east Battle Born MX will have their next round this weekend at the Elko County Fairgrounds. Just hope its cooler out there.

MMX Racing has practice sessions this weekend.

• Over the hill MMX Racing has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday on the Main, Sand and Kid’s tracks. On Sunday times are from 9 until 3 p.m. and the Vintage track is added to the mix.

E Street MX is hosting a round of the Summer Sundayz series.

• E Street MX is hosting Round 4 of this year’s P.R.O. Motocross Summer Sundayz series. Saturday is for practice while Sunday is race day.

REP Racing begins its summer series this Saturday.

• Riverfront MX will have practice from 5 until 10 p.m Thursday. Then Friday is for camping and Saturday practice begins at 4 p.m. with the first round of the REP Racing Saturday Night series to follow.

• Prairie City has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• Friday on Fox Sport 2 at 8 p.m. the network broadcasts the Craftsman Truck Series race from Nashville.

• Saturday starts 6:55 a.m. when the Formula 1 drivers qualify from Austria.

  • Then at 7 a.m. Peacock has Race Day Live from Southwick and at 10 a.m. airs the next round of the Pro Motocross series.
  • At 11a.m. the USA network airs NASCAR Cup qualifying from Nashville. Then at 3 p.m. the network broadcasts the Xfinity race from Nashville.
  • At 3 p.m. www.mavtv.com has MotoAmerica Superbikes from Shelton. Then at 5 p.m. Fox Sports 1 airs ARCA Racing from Michigan.

• Sunday begins at 5:55 a.m. when ESPN has the Forumla 1 race from Austria. Then at 7:25 a.m. TruTV has MotoGP from Assen.

  • NBC comes on at 12:30 p.m. with the NASCAR Cup race from Music City, or Nashville. The Roku Channel has Round 14 of the Formula E series from Portland.

  • Finally FOX comes on with the final rounds of the NHRA Norwalk Nationals. At 3 p.m. MAVTV has the second race of the MotoAmerican Superbike from Shelton.

OTHER RACING NEWS:

Which car club will win the Battle of Car clubs.

Wanted to give all the car clubs in our area a head’s up. The National Automobile Museum the week after the 4th of July is staging the Battle of the Car Clubs. Should be an interesting event and one club will have bragging rights for an entire year.

Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.
