QUINCY SPEEDWAY HOSTS PRO STOCKS

QUINCY, CALIFORNIA (June 15) — This weekend West Coast Pro Stocks made its first visit to Quincy Speedway. The event was the Pearson Family Memorial Race and two of the regular classes were there to support the program.

There was a bit of computer problems so another laptop had to be summoned. Once that was done and the fast laps over with it was time for the heat races.

Reno racer Antonio Aragon set fast time in Pro Stock qualifying.

The Pro Stocks had a qualifying session and Fallon drive Travis White set the fast time followed by Reno driver Antonio Aragon and Coaling, Calif. racer Christ Smith third.

Only two Mini Stocks were on hand and Lilly Montgomery (95) won the heat and feature while Ray Talavera was second.

Unfortunately there were only two Mini Stocks on hand. In their heat and feature Lilly Montgomery scored a double by winning both. Ray Talavera ended up the runner up.

After a two-year absence Joe Blackwell returned to racing and won the Street Stock Day.

The Street Stock class even had a dash and Joe Blackwell won that. After taking the checkered flag he said this was the first time he’s raced in two years.

Next up was the Pro Stock Fast Dash and Antonio Aragon won with Chris Smith not too far behind him in second place.

At the start of the Street Stock feature leader Grayson Olschowka is chased by his grandfather Joe Blackwell.

Now it was time for the 20-Lap Street Stock feature. On the green young Grayson Olschowka took off with his grandfather Joe Blackwell close behind him.

After a few laps Blackwell spun bringing out the only caution. On the restart Olschowka took off with Don Deiter giving chase.

After winning the Street Stock feature young Grayson Olschowka celebrates.

Several times Deiter challenged for the lead but every time Olschowka, who is 10-years-old, held him off. At the checkered they finished in that order with Tom Haxall ending up third.

With time running a bit short it was time for the Pro Stock feature. During the driver’s meeting the series director indicated they are planning an annual visit to Quincy.

When the Pro Stock feature began Chris Smith led the charge. Giving chase were Bill Pearson (5) and Antonio Aragon.

There were 11 Pro Stocks heading into their feature. On the green Chris Smith took off with Bill Pearson giving chase.

Early on there was a caution as one car stopped at the top of Turn 4. When the green waved again Travis briefly held second but soon Antonio Aragon took over the position. After that the chase was on.

There was another caution after a car spun in Turn 4 then created a huge cloud of dust. This apparently may have collected at least one or more cars.

There was not catching Chris Smith as he won the Pro Stock main.

When the green waved again Smith took off with Aragon in hot pursuit. In the late stages of the race Smith was able to extend his lead and scored the victory followed by Aragon and White while Bill Pearson ended up fourth.

After a cool-down lap Smith pulled onto the front straight to receive his trophy.

A very happy Chris Smith holds the trophy after winning the Pro Stock feature.

Then he said, “This place is a blast, I like the long straightaways, tight corners. It’s a little tricky, if you miss the bottom, you miss a lot.”

Then he thanked his sponsors, one of which was West Supply, Kramacol Machine Shop for his motor, Skinny’s Automotive, Dave and Jill Tomkins and his wife Melonie, who was his pit crew for the night and those that helped him.

The next race for Quincy Speedway is Saturday, June 22. Results are posted at the end of this article.
