RENO, NV (June 12) – The heat of summer if really here. This weekend has a slew of car meets as well as racing so there is almost something for everyone.
CAR MEETS:
• As usual the Iron Mafia gets the weekend rolling with an 8 a.m. start to their weekly meet. Location is Kim’s Donuts at 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.
- This week the Thursday Night Cruise, which starts at 5 p.m. in Carson City, will meet at the Harley Davidson dealership on Research Way.
• Friday starts with Yerington’s Main Street Car Show. It’s close to Dini’s Lucky Club and runs through Sunday.
- That evening the weekly Friday Night Meet starts at 6:30 p.m. by the 76th Station in Fernley. Nice way to end the week .
• Saturday is chock full of various car and truck meets. The Impalas of Reno Car Club is having the Summer Jam Taco Truck and Throwdown. Things start at 8 a.m. and location is Baldini’s Casino in Sparks.
- At 9 a.m. the National Automobile Museum has Coffee and Donuts. Great way to get a free ticket to the museum and the address is 1 Museum Drive in Reno.
- At 10 a.m. Hamburger and Chocolate Tour meets at Baldini’s. This time they’re cruising to the Court Café and Bakery located at 55 East Williams Avenue in Fallon.
- If you want to beat the heat Lake Tahoe Cars & Coffee will also meet on Saturday. Times are 10 to 3 p.m. and location is the Lake Tahoe Bagel Company on Al Tahoe Blvd in South Lake Tahoe.
• Sunday has three meets. The Bonanza Casino, located on North Virginia Street, has a Father’s Day Show ‘N Shine with a 10 a.m. starting time.
- Reno Cars & Coffee also has its second meet of the month. Starts at 10 a.m. by the Human Bean Coffee Stand located by the corner of Keitzke and Moana Lanes.
- Not far away Reno Jeeps & Coffee also has a meet. Starting time is 10 a.m. and the location is the Human Bean Coffee stand at the corner of South McCarran and Longely Lane.
• This is week there is a new event that happens the third Monday of the month. It’s the Pizzava Classic Nights, going from 4 until 7 p.m. and the location is 670 E. Prater Way in Sparks.
RACING (4-WHEEL):
• To the east Battle Mountain Raceway has races Friday and Saturday night. They didn’t put a time so I’ll guess things get going around 6 p.m.
- Two oval tracks are splitting a two-day show. On Friday, starting at 6 p.m. Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville, Calif. has all its regular classes racing.
- Then on Saturday night Quincy Speedway in Quincy, starting at 7 p.m., not only has the regular classes racing but also hosts the Pro Stocks tour.
- Closer to Reno the Northern Nevada Kart Club is hosting the Silver State Shootout. It’s a money race and the event starts Friday with racing both Saturday and Sunday. Usually things get going around 9 a.m. each day.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• Over at the motocross track at Fernley NinetyfiveA Speedway there will be practice from 8 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The early start is due to the heat.
• MMX Racing is busy this weekend. The track hosts the current round of the P.R.O. Motocross Summer Sundayz series on Sunday and uses the main track. They also have OS MX from 9 until 2 on Sunday.
• Prairie City should have practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
• Riverfront MX has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. then Thursday and then from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
• E Street MX Park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and is closed Sunday for Father’s Day.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• This weekend is when the classic endurance race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans happens. On Thursday www.max.com/sports has practice and qualifying.
• Friday at 5 p.m. Fox Sports 1 will broadcast ARCA Racing from Iowa.
• Saturday starts at 6 a.m. when www.motortrendondemand.com airs episode #1 from LeMans then has episode #2 starting at 3 p.m. The network is broadcasting the entire 24-hour event.
- At 7 a.m. Peacock airs Race Day Live then at 10 a.m. has the current round of the AMA Pro Motocross series. This time the racers are at High Point Raceway at Mt. Morris.
- The USA network comes on at 12:30 when the air the Xfinity race from Iowa. Then at 1 p.m. www.mavtv.com has the first race for the MotoAmerica Superbike series from Brainerd, Minn.
• Episode 2 from Le Mans continues until then Motor Trend starting at 3 a.m. has Episode 3 as they finish the coverage of this year’s 24 Hours of LeMans.
- Mavtv comes on at 1 p.m. with the second MotoAmerica Super Bike race from Brainerd.
- The weekend ends when the U.S.A. Network broadcasts the NASCAR Cup Race at Iowa Speedway in Newton Iowa. This race marks the change of networks airing the series.
Whew. That’s it for this weekend. Much to see and much to do. If possible try and get to a car meet or see a race live. You’ll meet some great people there.

OTHER RACING NEWS:
• For those racing in the BBMX series sign ups are not open. Round 6 will be at Elko Arenacross.
• Wednesday’s are Bike Nights at P.J. & CO on south Wells. This week the Moto Mouth Mini Team was there and several of the young racers were signing autographs plus there was a raffle for prizes.
Several shops were on hand not to mention some great looking bikes. If you like bikes or are a rider every Wednesday, staring at 5:30 is Bike Night.
• Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.
He recently started his broadcasts so to check Face Book around 6 p.m. Wednesday.
