RENO, NV (June 5): Summer’s heat has arrived and motorsports as well as car meets and cruises are getting into full swing. There is something for about everyone.
CAR MEETS:
• The Iron Mafia gets the weekend rolling when they meet at 8 a.m. Thursday. Location is Kim’s Donuts at 1328 U.S. 395 North.
- If you are down south there is another Thursday Night Cruise in Carson City. Times are 5 until 7 p.m. and this week they meet at San Marcos on East Winnie Lane.
- Another Thursday meet is when Junkee presents Volkswagen Night. Times are from 4 until 8 p.m. and location is the back parking lot at 372 Casazza Drive.
• Friday will also be a busy day. Down south Tonopah Speedway is hosting its 1st Annual OHV Porker Run. It’s a Friday-Saturday event with all kinds of events. The date on the poster wasn’t changed.
- Friday, starting at 5 p.m. is another Cruise In at Summit Racing Equipment located on East Glendale, just past the railroad tracks, in Sparks.
- To the east the Fernley Night Meet happens starting around 6 p.m. at the 76th Station on Main Street.
• Saturday also has a couple of car meets. The D&C Classic Garage has its 4th annual Show & Shine. Hours are 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at 240 Freeport Blvd. in Sparks.
- On Saturday the Bonanza Casino at 4720 North Virginia Street in Reno has the “Nothing but Fords,” show. Some super cars will also be there and times are 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. with music and a raffle.
• On Sunday, starting at 10 a.m., Sparks Cars & Coffee has its first meet of the month. Location is by the Starbucks off Disc Drive.
• The VDUB Club is also having a meet from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday. All years are welcome and location is the South Virginia Plaza at 1553 South Virginia Stree.
• This weekend, from Friday through Sunday is the 2024 Street Vibrations Spring Rally. There are three venues, the J Resort in Reno, Carson City or up in Virginia City. Should be a good time.
RACING (4-WHEEL):
• Rattlesnake Raceway is hosting the annual Octane Fest and in addition to the regular classes there will be West Coast Sport Compacts both nights. They also have some wild intermission combinations.
- To the east Summit Raceway, that’s celebrating its 40th season, has a Friday/Saturday show. Racing should get going around 6 p.m. each night.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTORCYCLES):
• This weekend is Round 5 for the 2024 BBMX season. Location is at Winnemucca MX, Saturday is for practice and Sunday is race day.
- Fernley NinetyfiveA Speedway has practice on Saturday and Sunday. Times are 8 until 1 p.m. due to the expected heat wave.
- REP Racing MX announced the Fernley Sandbox will be closed through June.
- MMX Racing has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Thursday on the Sand and Kid’s tracks. They had not put up a schedule when this article was posted.
- E Street MX Park is busy this weekend. On Friday the MX Factory will be there for training. Saturday is a private ride day while Sunday they host Round 4 of the 2024 SXS Series.
- Riverfront MX has practice Thursday from 5 until 10 p.m. but is closed this weekend due to the Loretta Lynn Regional race.
- Prairie City is the site of a Loretta Lynn Regional and Thursday is for parking and camping. Friday, from 9 until 2 p.m. is for practice. Saturday and Sunday, starting at 7:30 a.m. is for racing. Many will be trying to get an entry to this summer’s nationals.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• Thursday, starting at 3 p.m., Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race hub.
• On Friday, at 4 p.m., Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA Qualifying Show #1 from Bristol Dragway.
• Saturday starts at 9 a.m. on Peacock as they broadcast Raceday live. Then at noon Peacock might show the first motos when Pro Motocross visits Thunder Valley in Colorado. At 1 p.m. NBC continues coverage of the event.
- At 12:55 p.m. ESPN News has Formula 1 qualifying from Canada Then at 5 p.m. Fox Sports 1 airs the Xfinity race from Sonoma Raceway.
• Fox Sports 1 at 9:30 a.m. gets Sunday rolling with the NHRA qualifying Show #2.
- At 10:55 a.m. ESPN+ has the Formula 1 race from Canada. It’s another race between walls on an island, usually a good show.
- This week the NASCAR Cup race is in the wine country as they race at Sonoma Raceway. FOX carries the race and it’s a 12:30 start time.
- Also at 12:30 NBC broadcasts the Indy Car race from the challenging Road American Course.
- Finally the weekend ends at 4 p.m. when Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals from Bristol Dragway.
OTHER RACING NEWS:
• Wanted to give a heads up for next week. The Moto Mouth Mini Team will be at PJ&CO during their weekly bike night. It’s on Wednesday starting at 5:30 p.m., good food, great bikes to look at and nice people.
• Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.
He recently started his broadcasts so to check Face Book around 6 p.m. Wednesday.
