RACING & CAR MEET PREVIEW: MAY 30 TO JUNE 2

RENO, NV (May 29) — As we head into summer things are heating up both in racing as well as for car meets. Once again the event buffet table is over flowing.

CAR MEETS:

• Thursday gets rolling at 8 a.m. when the Iron Mafia meets at Kim’s Donut Shop. Location is 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.

There is another Thursday Night Cruise in Carson City.
  • Down in Carson City, from 5 until 7 p.m., there is another Thursday Night Cruise. This time the meeting place is at the Empire Ranch Golf Course.
Starting at 6:30 p.m. there is another Friday Night Fernley Mee5.

• There is another Friday Fernley Meet with a 6:30 p.m. starting time. Location is at the 76th Station on Main Street.

Classic Car Fever is this weekend at Lovelock by the Court House.

• Saturday is a busy day. To the east the annual Classic Car Fever  show is at Lovelock, Nevada. The festival begins on Friday with an Ice Cream Social.

  • Saturday there is a Poker Walk and cruise after the show ends. The show continues Sunday and location is under the trees at Courthouse Park.
The Rappin to Minden car and truck show is this weekend.
  • That same morning, from 9 until 2:30 p.m. is the 19th annual “Rappin to Minden” car & truck show. Location is at the corner of Esmeralda Ave. and 5th Street.
There is a car show inside the Reno/Sparks Convention Center this weekend.

         _ The Reno/Sparks Convention Center has a car show presented by Flagship 2024 – An Automotive Show, which runs from 11 until 4 p.m. Saturday.

There is another Cruise Nights in Carson City Saturday evening.
  • There is also a Carson City Cruise Night Saturday. Things start at 5:30 p.m. and meeting place is Juan’s Mexican Grill and Cantina located at 318 N. Carson Street.
  • There is another event, the Moon Rocks OHV Area Clean Up happens Saturday. For more information please follow Friends of Moon Rocks on Face Book or Instagram.
The annual Cars & Stripes is this weekend.

• Sunday is when four groups join forces to stage the Cars & Stripes Classic Car Celebration. Event runs from 10 until 2 p.m. and the location is in front of the Sportsman’s Warehouse.

  • The Revving Up for Jack Car Show is also on Sunday. Location is the Bully’s Sports Bar in Carson City.
Reno Cadrs & Coffee, starting at 10 a.m., has a meet Sunday.
  • Reno Cars & Coffee, starting at 10 a.m. has its first of the month meet. Location is the Human Bean Coffee stand by the corner of Keitzke and Moana Lanes. After the show ends one can walk over to the Cars & Stripes show.

  • Reno Jeeps & Coffee, starting at 10 a.m. has a meet at the Human Bean Coffee Stand located at the corner of Longley Lane and South McCarran.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

Score International is staging the Baja 500 this weekend.

• To the south Score International is running the 56th annual SCORE Baja 500. It’s a since loop race and the event runs from Thursday through Saturday with awards given out Sunday.

Friday is a money race day for the youngsters competing in Junior Dragster.

• This is also a big weekend at Top Gun Drag Strip located south of Fallon on the Shurz Highway. Friday is a money race for the youngsters competing in Junior Dragster.

Top Gun Drag Strip hosts the annual NHRA open meet this weekend.
  • This is the weekend for the annual NHRA Pacific National Open Series. It’s three days of drag racing action at Top Gun and brings many teams from outside our region.
Quincy Speedway is in action this Saturday.

• Saturday is the next event scheduled for Quincy Speedway. It’s usually a 6 p.m. start to the action and all the regular classes will be there.

Winnemucca Regional Raceway has a Friday-Saturday show this weekend.

• To the east Winnemucca Regional Raceway hosts a two-day show. Gates open at 4 p.m. with a 7 p.m. start to the action.

The new NAPA IMCA Series starts this weekend.
  • This weekend the new NAPA IMCA racing series starts at Winnemucca Regional Raceway. With more money for the winners there should be a good turnout of cars.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTORCYCLES):

• Biggest race in our region is the 55th Annual Hangtown Amateur Classic. This race, now part of the Pro Motocross series, brings the stars to the Prairie City facility.

Thursday and Friday are for the amateurs at the annual Hangtown Classic.
  • First two days are for the Amateurs then the Pros take over for Saturday which is televised.
Whatever MC is staging the next MRANN race at Cold Springs.

• Closer to home the Whatever MC is staging round 6 of the 2024 MRANN series called Whoops, Washes and Whatever. This time the course is located up at Cold Springs, only 15 minutes north of Reno.

  • As usual Saturday is short course day for the Pee Wees, V Women and Bomber racers. There will also be a Pit Dad tire challenge and a Run What U Brung Barrel Race.
  • Sunday is for the big bikes and the first of three races start at 9 a.m. for timed races.

• Due to Hangtown, practice sessions are a bit jumbled. E Street MX Park is closed Saturday but there is practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.

MMX Racing has practice sessions Saturday and Sunday.

• MMX has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday on the Sand and Kid’s tracks. Then from 9 until 3 p.m. Sunday on the Vintage, Main, Sand and Kid’s tracks.

• When this article was posted there was no word about Riverfront MX, in California. Here in Nevada nothing for the Fernley Sandbox or at Fernley NinetyfiveA Speedway probably due to Hangtown.

RACING (NATONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub. I believe at the end of June this show will be off the air.

• Friday www.imsa.tv at 1:35 p.m. has IMSA Weather Tech Sportscar qualifying from Detroit. Then at 4:30 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NHRA Qualifying Show #1 from New Hampshire.

• Saturday starts at 7 a.m. when Fox Sports 1 airs practice and qualifying for the NASCAR Cup teams at Gateway in Madison.

Pro Motocross is the highlight of this year’s Hangtown Amateur Class weekend.
  • Peacock comes on at 10 a.m. with Race Day Live then at 1 p.m. the network broadcast the Pro Motocross, or Hangtown Classic from Rancho Cordova.
  • FOX at 10:30 airs the Craftsman Truck Series from Gateway.
  • At noon the USA network airs the IMSA Weather Tech Sports Car race from Detroit.
  • Fox Sports 1 at 1:30 p.m. broadcast the Xfinity race from Portland then at 4 p.m. the network airs the NHRA Qualifying Show #2 and at 5 p.m. the NHRA Finals Challenge from the New England Nationals.

• Sunday starts at 4:30 a.m. when TruTV broadcast the MotoGP race from Italy.

  • Then at 9:30 a.m. the USA network and Peacock join forces as they broadcast the Indy Car race from Detroit.

  • Fox Sports 1 at 10 a.m.  airs the NHRA Finals Round 1 from Epping, New Hamshire. Then at 4 p.m. broadcast the finals from the NHRA New England Nationals.

  • The weekend ends on Fox Sports 1 with the NASCAR Cup race from Gateway.
