QUINCY SPEEDWAY HOSTS DWARF CAR NATIONALS

QUINCY, CALIF. (May 11) — This weekend Quincy, Speedway started its season by hosing the annual Western States Dwarf Car Nationals. It was round three of this year’s series.

Before the program began Saturday the Dwarf Cars paraded around to honor those lost including Loretta Christiano and Race Wilson.

Before the racing began the entire Dwarf Car field assembled on the track for parade laps. They honor those lost and the event has been known as the Richardson-Kay Memorial. This year it also honored Loretta Christiano, who was lost last year as well as one of Vukie Wilson’s family.

During the evening two very young racers made their presence know as they scored victories over their older rivals.

There were two filler classes and the Street Stocks had a trophy dash before the Dwarf Car features began.

Tom Haxall won the Street Stock Trophy Dash.

The trophy was won by one of the older drivers Tom Haxall when he beat Grayson Olschowka.

Asked about the race Haxall said, that he’s at the end of the age scale and his young rival is at the beginning of it.

Leading the Dwarf Car features was the Sportsman Class. On the green Marek Pipe took off but then Kasey Horat took the point.

Soon after that the race was red flagged when three cars tangled and one rolled over.

Eventual Sportsman winner Marek Pipe chases early leader Kasey Horat.

When the green waved again Horat took off with Pipe in hot pursuit. Then Pipe used an outside move in Turn 4 to reclaim the lead.

Another caution slowed the pace and bunched the cars together. On the restart Pipe took off but now Dan Varner was in second.

After winning 12-year-old Pipe climbed on top of his car and waved the checkered flag.

Sportsman feature winner Marek Pipe is only 12-years-old. Here he is with Tom the flagman and announcer Davey Munoz.

Later Pipe, who is 12-years-old and from Greeley, Colorado said, “My motor is about to blow up and my team owner was talking to my dad if we should keep the motor or just go out and win it. It worked, we won.”

Then he thanked everyone at Wagner Racing, his father and mother, Travis for getting his car ready, Riverside Truck and Auto Recyclers and Pit Stop,

Before the next Dwarf Car event the trio of IMCA Modifieds had their feature. The results were the same for the heat and main.

Chris Nieman won the IMSA Modified heat and main. Here at the start Katelynn Robinson is chasing him.

At the checkered Chris Nieman won followed by Katelynn Robertson and Kevin Pendergrass.

Next up was the Veteran A Feature. On the green Kyle Pope was on point with Ronnie Williams right behind him.

After falling back a bit Williams began to close up on leader Pope. Then a caution after a spin bunched up the cars.

For much of the Veteran’s feature eventual winner Ronnie Williams was chasing Kyle Pope.

When the green waved again it was the Pope/Williams show as the leaders tore around the track. With three to go Williams used an outside move exiting Turn 2 to claim the lead.

In the end Williams won the feature followed by Pope and third place Tom Morley.

After winning the Veteran feature winnere Ronnie Williams made a quick trip to the pits and brought his daughter Lilly out to celebrate with him.

Williams then headed for the pits and later drove back to the front straight with his daughter Lilly.

Asked about the race Williams said, “It was a fun race.”

Grayson Olschowka lead the Street Stock feature from green to checkered.

Then it was time for the Street Stock feature. When the green waved Grayson Olschowka took off and led from green to checkered.

Despite only being 10-years old Olschowka is the 2023 Lovelock Speedway Street Stock champion from last year.

After winning the Street Stock feature Grayson Olschowka, who is 10-years-old clebrates.

Asked how he won this time Olschowka said he used the high line. For the second time that night a very young found victory.

Finally it was time for the 30-lap Pro Dwarf feature. The other classes only ran 20-laps in their features.

Before their 30-lap feature began the pro drivers lined up for introductions.

First however the field lined up on the front stretch so the drivers could be introduced. Then after a couple of laps so the scoring crew could check to be sure all the transponders worked, then it was time to form up.

When the Pro feature began it appeared that Mike Grenert would win but mechanical problems ended his night.

On the green Mike Grenert took off and immediately put a gap between himself and second place Kinser Endicott.

One red flag flag came after two cars tangled. Denny Hannel wound up upsided down while the Chris Christiano stayed on its wheels. Both drivers were able to continue.

There was a red flag when the car of Chris Christiano tangled with the car of Denny Hannel, who rolled. The safety crew rushed to check on both drivers. Both were uninjured and after rolling Hannel’s car back on its wheel they rejoined the race.

When racing resumed Grenert took off with Endicott in hot pursuit. Soon, at the halfway point, another caution bunched the cars.

On the restart Grenert’s night ended in flames as his engine either blew up or an oil line broke. This brought out another red flag as the safety crew from the Quincy Fire Department rushed to his aid.

Now Endicott led when racing resumed while Ronnie Williams and Shawn Whitney gave chase. With eight laps to go there was another caution when a car found the Turn 4 wall.

That last laps of the Pro feature saw winner Kinser Endicott chases by runner up Ronnie Williams.

On the restart Endicott took off with Williams chasing him. They finished in that order

Back in the pack former winner Joe Frock, who lost a motor Friday, started toward the back and made up 14 places to finish ninth, which earned him the Hard Charger award. Of the 23 potential starters three were DNF while one was unable to start.

Kinser Endicott celebrates his Pro feature win with Tom the flagman and announcer Davey Munoz.

Asked about the race Endicott said, “The whole weekend has been wild. I had this weird feeling like I was going to win this but was like a far out thought. Then we I got here and the weekend started it got worse, and I really had to work for it.

“So this is so awesome for me. I could hear them, didn’t know if it was Whitney or Monster but man those NorCal guys weren’t making it easy. It’s a blast when we get a race like that.”

He then thanked everyone that has helped him, his family.

Endicott’s family and pit crew joined him in celebrating his Dwarf Pro feature victory.
