RACING & CAR MEET PREVIEW: MAY 2 TO 5

RENO, NV – May is here and racing as well as car meets are ramping up, not to mention events on TV. If there is rain this weekend it could affect scheduled outdoor events.

CAR MEETS:

• Thursday gets going at 8 a.m. when Iron Mafia meets at Kim’s Donuts. Location is 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.

The Friday Night Fernley Meet starts at 6 p.m.

 • A good way to end the week is the Friday Night Meet in Fernley. Starts at 6 p.m. and the location is the 76th Station on Main Street.

The Super Custom Car Show is Saturday at the Reno/Sparks Convention Center.

• Saturday at the Reno Sparks Convention Center is the Best of Show Magazine Super Custom Car Show. All types of cars, a live performance by the Temptations and other things are offered. For some reason they forgot to put an opening time on the graphic so I’m guessing 10 a.m. for things to get rolling.

Saturday, weather permitting, there will be a large 4X4 show at Mills Park in Carson City.

Saturday, probably starting around 10 a.m. there will be what is billed as the largest 4X4 Show and Shine at Mills Park in Carson City. It’s a family event so there will be many things for the kids to do.

If it doesn’t rain, Reno’s EVO Club will meet Saturday evening.
  • If the weather holds Reno’s EVO Club is meeting, starting at 6 p.m. Saturday by the Keitzke Starbucks. Should it be raining the event will be canceled.
Reno Cars & Coffee has its first meet of the month Sunday.

• Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. there are two car meets. Reno Cars & Coffee meets at the Human Bean Coffee Stand by the corner of Keitzke and Moana Lanes.

At that same time Reno Jeeps & Coffee meets at the Human Bean Coffee Stand located at the corner of Longley Lane and South McCarran.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

• The Reno SCCA is hosting Rounds 3 and 4 of its Solo (Autocross) series. The action begins at 7:30 each day and location is the Regional Public Training Center atr 5190 Spectrum Blvd. in Reno For more information please check, www.renoscca.org.

NNKC is slated to run round 2 of its season on Sunday.

• Sunday at Desert Raceway Park, the Northern Nevada Kart Club hosts the second round of its 2024 season. One can pre-register either online or in person at the track on Saturday when many are practicing.

RACING AND PRACTICE (MOTORCYCLS  & SXS)

Disappointing news.

• Biggest news is the cancellation of this week’s Mammoth Qualifier at Prairie City MX. Go to @2xpromotions for further information.

• Closer to home the Fernley Sandbox is busy this weekend. Saturday, from 9 to 2 p.m. is DCMX Ride Day. Sunday has practice from 9 until 2 but riders need to register at www.repracingmx.com.

• Riverfront MX has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday then on all tracks from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.

MMX has practice both Saturday and Sunday.

• MMX racing has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday on the main, sand and kid’s tracks. Then from 9 until 3 Sunday with the vintage track in the mix.

E Street hosts the next round of its SXS season.

• E Street MX Park is hosting the third round of this year’s SXS Series. Not sure if there will be practice on Sunday.

RACING (NATIONAL):

• On Thursday at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Racehub.

• Friday starts at 9:25 a.m. when ESPN 2 has Formula 1 practice from Miami. Then at 1:25 p.m. the network airs Formula 1 Sprint qualifying.

• Saturday starts at 8:55 when ESPN airs Formula 1 Sprint race from Miami.

  • Peacock at 10:30 has Race Day Live then at 4 p.m. airs the next to last round of the AMA Supercross series from Denver.
  • Fox Sports 1 at 11 a.m. has ARCA Racing feom Kansas. At 12:55 p.m. ESPN has Formula 1 qualifying from Miami.
  • Fox Sports 1 at 2 p.m. has NASCAR Cup practice and qualifying from Kansas and follows that at 5 p.m. by showing the Craftsman Truck Series event.

• ABC at 1 p.m. airs the Formula 1 race from Miami. The circuit goes by water and even has areas painted to look like water.

  • Fox Sports 1 at 3 p.m. broadcasts the NASCAR Cup race from Kansas. Once again playoff points and making the elimination rounds with a win are one the line.

That’s it for this weekend so if one has time do attend a race or car show. There is nothing like it and you can meet some wonderful people.

StadiumGP is a little over two seeks away. To save money buy tickets early.

We’re just over two weeks away from the first StadiumGP, off-road motorcycle racing in and out of the outdoor Reno Rodeo arena. Things start on Thursday with a concert with two evenings of racing to follow. Best way to save some money is to buy tickets early from a business listed.

Riders at the StadiumGP cannot use tear offs.
  • Since the Reno Rodeo will happen just a few weeks after the event riders cannot use tear offs. Once the event is over the arena must be reset for the rodeo.
The next BBMX is next week and its time to pre-register.

• The next round of the BBMX season is only a week away so it’s time to pre-register. Once again the Fernley Sandbox will echo with the sounds of motocross.

Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.

Davey’s American Racng is on Face Book and is live Wednesday at 6 p.m.

He recently started his broadcasts so to check Face Book around 6 p.m. Wednesday.
