RENO, NV (April 3) — Here we are in April and racing is really getting going and it will increase during the April. There is plenty to see, enjoy and watch on live or on TV.
CAR MEETS:
• The Iron Mafia gets the weekend going with their Thursday meet at Kim’s Donuts. Starts at 8 a.m. and location is 1329 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.
– Thursday evening, from 4 until 8 p.m., is when Junkee Clothing Exchange has its monthly Volkswagen Night. Location is the store’s back lot at 372 Casazza Drive.
• Friday is when the next Fernley meet happens. Starts around 6:30 p.m. and the location is by the 76th Station.
• Sunday has a pair of meets. Reno Cars & Coffee, from 10 until noon, is by the Human Bean Coffee stand at 3380 Kietzke Lane, which is close to the corner with Moana Lane.
– Reno Jeeps & Coffee, also from 10 until Noon, meets at the Human Bean located at the corner of Longely Lane and South McCarran.
• While not exactly a car meet as trucks are also invited there will be a Mudfest on Sunday. The action starts at noon and the location is the Chikadee Pits. A fun time but if watching, don’t stand too close to the water.
RACING (4-WHEEL):
• Winnemucca Regional Raceway opens the regional oval track season this weekend. Kids Karts began at 5 p.m. and Big Cars start at 7 p.m.
• Up in Susanville there is an extra Tune and Test session this Sunday. Things go from noon until 6 p.m. and hopefully the weather cooperates.
RACING AND PRACTICE (MOTORCYCLES)
• MRANN is in action this weekend when the Mason Valley Dirt Squirts present the Mazuma 100. Location is at the Lovelock Speedway and it’s paved right to the track.
- Saturday is for the Pee Wee, Mini Bikes, V Women and Bombers with a 9 a.m. start to the first race. Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. is for the big bikes and they race on at 45-mile long course where a rider must complete one lap to be classed as a finisher.
• On Sunday, from 10 until 3 p.m. there is practice at the Fernley Sandbox track. One must register on line at www.repracingmx.com to attend.
• Over the hill E-Street MX Park is hosting round 5 of the PRO MX Winter Series known as the Frigid 8. Saturday is for practice while Sunday is race day.
• Not that far away Sierra OTHG is having the Sierra National Warm Up at Prairie City MX. Saturday from 9 until 2 is for practice then Sunday’s practice begins at 8 a.m. with racing to follow.
- Not a rider but want to be part of the event, well flaggers are needed for the weekend. Should be good for at least a free lunch and the chance to help make the racing safer.
• Riverfront has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. on Thursday. Then Sunday, from 9 until 2 p.m., practice is on the main, kids and veteran tracks.
• MMX didn’t post anything when this article was posted. So would suggest checking their page before heading out.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• On Thursday, at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR RACE HUB
- At 7:25 p.m. ESPNU has Formula 1 practice #1 from Japan. Then at 10:55 p.m. ESPN2 has the second practice.
• Friday starts at 4:30 p.m. when Fox Sports 1 airs the Craftsman Truck Series race from Martinsville. Then at 6:30 p.m. the network has NHRA Qualifying Show #1 from the Arizona Nationals.
- ESPN News, at 7:25 p.m. has the third Formula 1 practice from Suzuka, Japan. Then at 10:55 p.m. ESPN 2 has Formula 1 qualifying.
• Saturday starts at 1:30 p.m. when Fox Sports 2 has NASCAR Cup practice and qualifying from Martinsville. At 4:30 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the Xfinity race.
- ESPN at 9:55 p.m. broadcasts the Grand Prix of Japan from the course at Suzuka.
• Fox Sports 1 carries the load on Sunday. At 7:30 a.m. the network has the NHRA Qualifying Show #2 from Arizona.
- At noon the network carries the NASCAR Cup race from Martinsville. One look and you’ll see why the track’s nickname is The Paper Clip.
- At 3:30 p.m. it’s time for the finals at the NHRA Arizona Nationals. Time to add more points if a team is aiming at a class championship.

• Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.
