RENO, NV (Feb. 14) — Now that the Super Bowl is over there is more racing coming as series are starting to open their 2024 seasons. We have racing in our area, few car meets and events on TV to watch. The area events are doing to depend on the weather.
CAR MEETS:
• Thursday, as usual, begins at 7 a.m. when Iron Mafia has another meet at Kim’s Donuts. Location is 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville
• Friday, at 4:30 p.m., is when the next Fernley Friday Night Meet starts. Meeting place is at the 76th station.
• Sunday has a pair of meets in two different locations
– Reno Cars & Coffee meets, starting at 10 a.m., on Sunday. Location is by the Human Bean Coffee stand by the corner of Keitzke and Moana Lanes.
- Reno Jeeps & Coffee also meets, starting at 10 a.m., on Sunday. Location is the Human Bean Coffee stand at the corner of South McCarran and Longely Lane
RACING (4-Wheel):
• We’re still about a month away from when the oval tracks in our region and across Northern Nevada open.
RACING & PRACTICE (Motocross):
• Supercross is off this week but highlights can be seen on www.youtube.com.
• This weekend the Trail Blazers MC hosts the Ridge Runner 100, the 26th Annual Hare and Hound. The event is the second race in the 2024 MRANN schedule. The event is about 10 miles north of the Nightingale exit on I-80 east of Fernley.
- Saturday gets rolling at 10 a.m. with the Pee Wee races. The Mini Bikes, Saturday Women and Bombers will follow that. Sunday is for the big bikes and their race begins at 10 a.m. and has a 46-mile long course.
• Round 4 of the Frigid 8 Pro MX Series is at the Oatfield course this weekend.
• MMX Racing in Marysville has a busy schedule, if the expected rain doesn’t cause them any problems.
-Practice on Thursday is on the sand and kids tracks from noon until 5 p.m. There is practice from noon until 5 p.m. on the main and kids tracks.
-Saturday and Sunday is when the Sierra OTHG hosts round 2 of their Spring Series. There is practice from 9 until 2 Saturday then starting at 8 a.m. Sunday with racing to follow.
• E Street canceled its Wednesday practice and will up date later for the weekend. Rain is expected for the area but there is some doubt as to how much.
• As far as Riverfront MX and Prairie City may have practice sessions but that will depend on the weather. Best advice is to check with the tracks before heading out.
RACING (National):
• This week is all about NASCAR as Daytona gets rolling and with one exception, it appears Fox Sports 1 will carry the load.
-Thursday, at 12:30 a.m. Fox Sports 1 repeats qualifying from the Daytona International Speedway. At 2 p.m. the network broadcasts Craftsman Truck Series practice then at 3 p.m. the air the Duels that set all the starting positions except for the front row.
- Friday, starting at 4:30 p.m., Fox Sports 1 airs the Craftsman Truck Series race.
- Once again Fox Sports 1 carries the load on Saturday. At 10:30 AM they air the ARCA Racing event and follow that at 2 p.m. with the Xfinity series opener.
- Sunday is when FOX has the broadcast duties. At 10 a.m. it’s Race Day. Then at 11:30 a.m. it’s time for the Great American Race or the Daytona 500 that starts the NASCAR Cup season.
