RENO, NV (Jan. 31) — January is ending and that means more racing nationally and here when a major event visits Reno plus a local off-road series starts. February brings more national and regional racing as well.
CAR MEETS:
• The Iron Mafia again gets the weekend rolling at 7 a.m. Thursday. Location is Kim’s Donuts at 1328 U.S.395 North in Gardnerville.
• Later on Thursday, Junkee has its monthly Volkswagen Night. Runs from 4 until 8 p.m. and parking is on their back lot at 372 Casazza Drive.

• At that same time Reno Jeeps & Coffee is meeting Sunday. Location is at the Human Bean Coffee stand by the corner of South McCarran and Longley Lane.
RACING (4-Wheel):
• Biggest event in Northern Nevada happens this Thursday through Saturday. It’s the High Desert Hustle, a big money event for those racing Outlaw Karts and as of today there were 300 entries,
- A clay oval has been laid out inside the Reno Livestock Center. It’s going to be a wild three-day event and if the crowds are large enough should return next year.
– Due to construction on Wells this reporter suggests one arrive early. If you can’t make it the show is live streamed on www.fastfour.tv, a subscription service.
• Right now none of the Northern Nevada Ovals are operating due to the weather but in a couple of months that will change. Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville is waiting for the fair board up there to approve the schedule and have to see what is going on with American Valley Speedway in East Quincy.
- The Northern Nevada Kart Club usually waits until April to get its season going.
RACING AND PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• This weekend the 2024 MRANN series starts and it’s divided so this time the big bikes race Saturday. A couple of good things are the gas prices in Fernley, if one is coming from the west, and the road to the pits is paved.
-The usual Saturday classes race on Sunday this time. Mike Wood, of RE/MAX Realty, is paying all the entry fees for the Pee Wees in the second race.
• REP Racing MX announced due to rain Riverfront MX, Prairie City and the Fernley Sandbox are all closed this weekend.
• E Street MX Park is slated to host round three of this year’s P.R.O. Motocross Frigid 8 series. Best to check with the track before heading out because rain is expected.
• MMX is hoping to have practice at least Saturday but again best to check with the track before heading out.
RACING (NATIONAL):
• Thursday at 3 p.m. Fox Sport 1 has NASCAR Race Hub as the season gets going this weekend.
• Friday is the time to catch up with events one has missed that might be on www.youtube.com, which is free, or try other subscription services like www.floracing.com, www.mavtv.com, www.fanschoice.tv or watch the High Desert Hustle on www.fastfour.tv.
• Saturday is when the AMA Supercross series leaves the west coast and travels to Detroit. Peacock, starting at 6:30 a.m. has Race Day Live and at noon NBC has the race.
• Sunday is when NASCAR begins its 2024 season and Fox begins coverage at 6 p.m. with Race Day followed by Qualifying. Then at 8 p.m. the network broadcast the 2024 NASCAR Cup Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum.
That’s it for this time folks. Have a safe weekend and if possible get out to either a car meet or, especially if its raining, the High Desert Hustle at the Reno Livestock Events Center. If you do the latter I’d recommend ear protection.
