RACING PREVIEW: JANUARY 4 TO 7, 2024

RENO, NV (Jan.3) — Well here we are in the New Year and we’re finally leaving the Re-Run Zone. Racing has begun and this weekend two major series will get rolling as well as local car meets.

One thing to keep in mind is that all the meets and races here and in Northern California are subject to change depending on the incoming weather.

CAR MEEETS:

• This Thursday there are a pair of meets, one in the morning and the newest in the afternoon/evening.

Iron Mafia has its Thursday morning meet at Kim’s Donuts in Gardnerville.
  • Things get rolling at 7:30 a.m. as the Iron Mafia hosts its usual weekly meet. Location is at Kim’s Donuts, 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.
Junkee Clothing has its first Volkswagen Night Thursday evening.
  • Then from 4 until 8 p.m. Junkee Clothing hosts its first Volkswagen night. These happen the first Thursday of ever month. Location is at Junkee’s back parking lot at 372 Casazza Drive in Reno.

• Sunday starting at 10 a.m. Reno Jeeps & Coffee has a meet by the Human Bean coffee stand at the corner of South McCarran and Longley Lanes.

Reno Cars & Coffee meets Sunday morning at its new location, In the parking lot by the Human Bean coffee stand located by the corner of Kietzke and Moana Lanes.

• That same day, starting at 10 a.m., Reno Cars & Coffee meets at its new location. Location is by the Human Bean coffee stand located near the corner of Kietzke and Moana Lanes.

RACING (4-Wheel):

Cocopah Speeway has started the IMCA Winter Nationals. This event runs through the first three weekends in January.

• Down in Arizona the Cocopah Speedway has started the IMCA.TV Winter Nationals. The event runs for the next three weekends and can be seen live on www.imca.tv. Several Northern Nevada drivers are down there competing.

RACING AND PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

• Due to the expected cold weather this weekend practice at the Fernley Sandbox MX track will only be from 10 to 3 p.m. Saturday.

MMX Racing this Sunday hosts Round 1 of the Pro MX Winter Series.

• MMX Racing is hosting round 1 of this year’s Fridgid 8 Pro MX Winter series. The first race is on Sunday so guessing Saturday is for practice.

  • Registration is open for the event, which will be on the Sand Track. There maybe practice on the main and kids tracks, from 9 until 2 p.m. both days but check before going there.

• Depending on the weather E Street MX Park may or may not have practice this weekend. If so it will be from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday but be sure to check their Instagram page before heading out.

• Same thing for both Riverfront MX and Prairie City MX. With weather coming in they haven’t posted any practice times so it’s suggested one check their Instagram pages or REP Racing MX before heading out.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday, starting at 6 a.m. www.mavtv.com is repeating their broadcast of the Isle of Man races. To say it’s a wild event would be a total understatement.

The two week long Dakar Rally starts this Friday. Once again the event will be in Saudia Arabia.

• On Friday the two week long Dakar Rally begins as competitors face the challenges Saudi Arabia has for them. One challenge will be encountering some camel herds.

         -There will be desert cars, buggies, side-by-side, trucks and motorcycles racing.  Its an intense event and only the strong and lucky usually survive. Highlights can be seen on www.mavtv.com.

• Saturday is the start of this year’s AMA Supercross season. As traditional they begin with Anaheim 1 and the top dogs of professional motocross racing should be on hand.

         – Peacock, at 11:30 a.m. has Race Day Live then at 4:30 p.m. the network broadcasts Round 1 of the series. On Sunday, at 11 a.m. NBC rebroadcasts the races.

• Saturday is when practice for this year’s Chili Bowl Nationals gets going. The event starts on Monday, January 8 and goes through the 13th.

Chili Bowl Nationals has practice on Sunday then racing begins Monday.

There are over 700 racers from across the country and some from other countries competing in this wild, indoor event and it can be seen live on www.floracing.com.

That’s it for this weekend. Going to be cold in Northern Nevada so stay warm and if possible get out to one of the car meets on Sunday. Have a safe week and see everyone next week.

OTHER RACING NEWS:

MRANN’s 2023 Awards Banquet is Saturday at Boomtown.

•  On Saturday there is the MRANN Season Banquet at Boomtown. The event begins at 3 p.m. when the Saturday trophies are handed out followed by dinner at 6 p.m. After that the Sunday awards are handed out as well as naming the top 20 in points, they get a blue plate next year, and the overall points champion is crowned.

Winnemucca MX put out this announcement as who can use their track.

• Winnemucca Motocross put out an announcement about who can use their track. They encourage anyone that wants to come to their monthly meeting. Then they’ll explain how a rider can use the track.

Davey’s American Racing covers California tracks as well as national series.

Daveys American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.
