RENO, NV (Dec. 30) — Well here we are, the last day of 2023 as we jump into 2024. For some they’ll be roaring out of this year and into the New Year when the 2024 racing season gets rolling.
NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL EVENTS:
• To the east the Tulsa Shootout started this past Tuesday and goes through the 31st. Then everyone gets a short rest as more racers arrive in Tulsa Oklahoma.
– Then a week from Monday, on January 8th, the annual Chili Bowl Nationals start. It’s five wild days of short track, indoor racing.
• Down in Arizona there is the IMCA.TV Winter Nationals at Cocopah Speedway. The action begins on Tuesday, January 2nd and runs through the 13th.
• On the other side of the world the annual Dakar Rally begins Friday, January 5th. It’s an intense off-road event that has buggies, side by sides, cars, trucks and motorcycles. As they race over the sand dunes in Saudi Arabia competitors need to be alert as sometimes they’ll encounter small herds of camels.
• Another major series begins this Saturday when the 2024 Supercross series begins. Top ranked motocross riders face off in stadiums across the country.
REGIONAL TRACKS AND SERIES:
• Don’t have all the schedules at present but I’ve got a bunch of them so we’ll start east and go west.
- Summit Raceway in Elko is celebrating its 40th season. Their season begins in April and ends in September with the annual Gold Rush race.
- Battle Mountain Raceway starts racing toward the end of May. The season ends with the three-day Silver Cup races in late September.
- Winnemucca Regional Raceway starts its season at the beginning of April. They’ll also host a DCONN Dwarf Car Regional in August and end the season in early September.
- Lovelock Speedway starts with a test and tune session in March then April 6th is the first race. The annual Frontier Days starts August and the season ends at the end of that month.
- Rattlesnake Raceway begins its season in April, the annual Octane Fest is in early June. In mid-September, on the 14th, the Only Hobby Stock Memorial happens and the season ends with the Dirt Track Championships at the start of October.
- Both Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville, California and American Valley Speedway in East Quincy, California didn’t have schedules posted yet. They usually have to wait until the respective Fair Boards give them the schedule.
- When this article was posted the Northern Nevada Kart Club hadn’t posted its 2024 schedule.
– Top Gun Dragstrip has posted its 2024 schedule. In May they host a Nostalgic Racing Weekend and the annual NHRA National Open Series race is in June.
- On the motorcycle side MRANN hadn’t made its 2024 schedule when this article was posted. Should be up sometime in January.
- There are two motocross groups that have posted schedules. Battle Born MX starts in mid-March at Winnemucca and has three events at the new reborn Fernley Sandbox track. There will also be two national events at the Sandbox as well.
- To the east the newly formed Cross Roads MX Series has three races scheduled. One at Elko, the second in Winnemucca and the third at the Skyline course.

• Reno Cars & Coffee had to change the location of its January 7th event. The new location is by the Human Bean Coffee Stand by the corner of Keitzke and Moana Lanes with the usual 10 a.m. Sunday start time.
OTHER RACING NEWS:
• There are two meets on Tuesday, January 2nd. It’s a great way to start the New Year.
- Trucks and Tacos meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and this time the location is Daddy’s Tacos. Location is 4840 Mill Street, Sparks.
- Earlier that afternoon Junkee presents it’s first Volkswagen Night. Times are 4 to 8 p.m. and other classic cars are welcome. Location is at Junkee’s back parking lot at 372 Casazza Drive.
• Don’t forget the 2023 MRANN Season Banquet is Saturday, January 6 at Boomtown. Saturday awards start at 3 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 then the Sunday awards begin at 7 p.m.
• Daveys American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.
