RENO, NV (Nov. 1) — Big time change this weekend as well as car meets and motocross events over the hill. In addition NASCAR has its championship weekend.
CAR MEETS:
Reporters Note: These meets will depend on the weather although the hardcore car people will be there.
• The big event this weekend is at Fernley Ninetyfivea Speedway. It’s the annual FERN 45 event that includes a verity of events including an off-road poker run Saturday. The event supports veterans and starts Thursday.
• Thursday morning gets going early, at 7 a.m., when the Iron Mafia meets at Kim’s Donuts. Location is 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville
• There are two car events Friday.
- The first starts at 5:30 with the Fernley Car Meet. Meeting place is at the 76th gas station.
- The next starts at 8 p.m. when the Reno Evo group meets at the Dutch Brothers Coffee Stand in Carson City. The address is 1231 South Carson Street.
• Sunday has two different groups meeting and both start at 10 a.m.
- Reno Cars & Coffee has its first meet of the month by the Kietzke Starbucks. If the weather is decent there is usually a large, varied group of cars.
- Reno Jeeps & Coffee is having a meet as well. Location is the Human Bean Coffee stand located at the corner of Longely Lane and South McCarran.
RACING (4-WHEELS):
• Saturday is the annual awards banquet for Rattlesnake Raceway. Cocktails at 5 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m. with awards to follow. Location is the Eagles Hall on the Reno Highway west of downtown.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTORCYCLES):
• Prairie City is a busy place this weekend as the 51st Lilliputian Hare Scrambles fills the weekend. The host is the Dirt Diggers North Motorcycle Club and it’s a AMA District 36 event.
• Nothing on MMX for practice but from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday there is Moto Mike MX Training for the mini riders.
– They changed the sand track so hopefully the main, sand and kid tracks will have practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday.
• E Street MX Park is hosting the next round of the BBMX series. Saturday will be for practice while Sunday is race day. For more information and to sign up please go to www.battlebornmx.com.
– Saturday, after practice, there will be another Stacyc Race. The kids ride electric bikes and they are 6 and under.
• Riverfront MX has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday. On Saturday there is training with 180 MX and, due to a town festival, track is closed on Sunday.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• Thursday starts at 2 p.m. when www.mavtv.com airs the Supercars Championship.
- Fox Sports 1 at 3 p.m. has NASCAR Race Hub. This is Championship Weekend for the three top series.
• Friday starts at 7:25 a.m. when ESPN 2 has Formula 1 practice then at 10:55 the network airs Formula 1 qualifying from Brazil
- At 7 p.m. Fox Sports 1 broadcasts the championship race for the Craftsman Truck Series. It’s the first of three title races at Phoenix Raceway.
• Saturday begins at 6:55 a.m. when ESPN 2 has the Formula 1 Shootout. Then at 11:55 ESPN News has the Formula 1 Sprint race from Brazil.
- The USA Network at 4 p.m. has the Xfinity championship race from Phoenix. When the checkered flies another NASCAR Champion will be crowned.
• Sunday has two major races for racing fans.
- At 8:30 a.m. ESPN 2 broadcasts the Grand Prix of Brazil. Two weeks after this event this globe trotting series visits Las Vegas
- At noon NBC and Peacock air the NASCAR Championship race from Phoenix. Four drivers are in line for the title and who ever finishes ahead of the other three earns the tile.
