RENO, NV (Oct. 22) — Been a varied weekend with good weather although that may change this week. Still it was a pretty good time for all concerned.
Out in Fallon there was a ribbon cutting for a shop and the season’s final Fallon Cars & Coffee meet at the Alley Bar located south of downtown. Owners Ronnie & Lora Seagraves were celebrating the official opening of their garage.
Asked about it Seagraves said, “I’m co owner with my wife Lora. It’s something that I came up with a long time ago, you hear about Gas Monkey Garage and something like that. So I thought of a way to bring the community together and I created Rustoration, not Restoration, Garage because I deal with the Rat Rods and the Patina, that’s my style, that’s what I like.”
So far he’s been pleased how things are going.
“It’s been great, we’ve got an overwhelming response since we moved into Fallon in 2021, this is our second year here this October,” he said. “And we’ve created this following here, the Chamber of Commerce is doing out ribbon cutting and we’ve held one car show this year. Hopefully we’re planning on three car shows next that we’ll sponsor and host. I’ve got eight projects at home that I work on and I help my other buddies with projects after I get my shop built in the back yard.”
He added that Fallon Cars & Coffee usually meets the third weekend of the month through summer.
“So when it warms up in the spring we run all summer long until it cools off in the fall. This is our seventh one that we’ve run.
He and his wife are partners and split duties with their business.
“Lora handles all our advertising, she does all the flyers that we do, she does all the posting on social media for us. She is great at all that stuff, getting out on social media, she’s a big help and a big part of Rustoration Garage. I’m the nuts and bolts, she is the creative one.”
He does have a larger goal than just their shop.
“We just like bringing the community together, getting out there, getting people together, and bringing like minded people together so it’s any vehicle for our Fallon Cars & Coffee, doesn’t matter what you have. If you like cars or are a drag racer, motorcycle rider come on out and see us. We love to have everybody and bring everybody together,” he said.
He later added that this year the Chamber of Commerce asked him to take over the Cantaloupe Festival car show. Seagraves got more cars than they’ve had before and he’ll run that car show next year.
There was a good mix of various types of cars and trucks at the meet.
A few had their hoods up while others were on display. For now however, Fallon Cars and Coffee is hibernating but the Rustoration Garage is off and running.
• This weekend VORRA (Valley Off Road Racing Association) and Legacy Racing combined forces for the Gold Rush off road race. Tech was in Virginia City and the race started early Saturday morning at Weeks.
Motorcycles were launched first then around 11:30 the trucks and buggies were launched. Michael Osborn, driving 6131 scored a double when he won both the 6100 class and was first overall with an elapsed time of 5:48:04.
After racing east and passing to the south of Top Gun Drag Strip the trucks had to slow down and cross the highway before heading into Pit 1. They would have five crossing on their way to Tonopah.
The Group T winner was Chris German and, like the other trucks, is shown just before he made the road crossing south of Fallon. For the results please go to www.legacyracing.net.
• Sparks Cars & Coffee had its second meet of the month by the Starbucks off Disc Drive on the north side of Sparks. As usual there were a good mix of cars including some exotic ones.
If one is a James Bond fan then you know the name Aston Martin. There were two present and one of them is owned by David Ramsey.
Asked about the car he said, “ You’re looking at a 2020 Aston Martin DS Superleggera. It has a 5.2 liter, twin turbo V-12 engine putting out 711 horsepower, an 8-speed ZF trans axel plus a whole lot of leather and carbon fiber cause it’s Aston Martin,” he said.
The story regarding how he bought the car, when he had another in mind was interesting.
There’s a dealer in Walnut Creek and I was actually going up to look at a Lamborghini Huacan. I convinced my wife to come with me, somewhat under protest cause she’s a little tired of my car stuff,” he said. “But as we were driving in the lot where the Lamborghini was in the showroom and this was in the parking lot.
“She kept looking at it and asked, ‘what’s that?’ so I said ‘that’s an Aston Martin,’ but the car we’re looking at is in the show room.
“I got out and went up to meet the salesman, turned to introduce my wife and she’s not there. So I looked around she’s out in the parking lot taking pictures of this car. So you could see which way the wind was blowing. One thing led to another.”
Next question, of course is how does it drive.
“It’s a GT car in the classic sense, it’s fast, it’s powerful and it’s smooth. It’s not a sports car despite being a Superleggera. I’ve been to Texas and back in it, very nice more like a GT rather than a sports Car.”
Another Aston Martin also showed up and drew on lookers.
Not far away was a 1960’s era Chevy Corvair Corsa, these cars featured a turbocharged motor. In addition there were several other types of cars on display.
Sparks Cars & Coffee next meet is on Sunday, November 12th.
