RENO, NV (Oct. 4) — Still more racing as the next-to-last oval track event in Northern Nevada is this weekend and the Northern Nevada Kart Club closes its season. There are also car meets, motocross races in Northern California as well as events on TV.
CAR MEETS:
• For you early birds, the Iron Mafia has a meet starting at 7 a.m. Thursday. All makes are welcome and its at Kim’s Donuts and Tea House located at 1328 US 395 North in Gardnerville.
• On Saturday, from 8 until 3 p.m., the Bonanza Casino has Aloha for Maui, a benefit car show. It’s part of Hot August Nights Event Series and there will be awards, raffle prizes, food trucks and Merchandise.
• Saturday morning, from 9 until 11 a.m. is the season’s final meet for Tahoe Cars and Coffee. Meeting place is the Heavenly Gondola located at 4080 South Lake Tahoe.
• If one likes airplanes Saturday is the 2nd Annual Airport Day at the Silver Springs Regional Airport. There is also a car show at the event and Davey Munoz will be the DJ.
• Saturday ends when the Reno Evo’s Club, at 8 p.m., has their next meet. Location is by the Keitzke Starbucks.
• The final Brunch ‘N Classics, hosted by the Northern Nevada Classics, is from 11 to 1 p.m. this Sunday. Location is the parking lot on the west side of Baldini’s Casino.
• Sparks Cars & Coffee has its first meet of the month Sunday by the Starbucks on Disc Drive in Sparks. Times are 10 to noon and there is usually a good selection of cars to see.
RACING (4-WHEEL):
• Friday and Saturday evenings are when the 37th annual Dirt Track Championships will be run at Rattlesnake Raceway. Each night counts as drivers vie not only for the money but bragging rights that come with the title.
• Saturday and Sunday, at the Fernley 95A Speedway’s road course Club Rowdy is staging another drifting event. Saturday runs from 9 until 11 p.m. then from 9 until 5 p.m. Sunday.
• Sunday is the season’s ending race for the Northern Nevada Kart Club. Things get going in the morning and after practice each class gets two heat races and a main event.
When the final checkered flag waves this year’s class champions will be known.
PRACTICE AND RACING (MOTOCROSS):
• Fernley 95A Motor Sports has practice on its motocross track from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
• The MX track known as the Sand Box, located west of the Veteran’s Cemetery in Fernley is being rebuilt. The goal is to have some practice sessions and racing the first weekend in December.
• This weekend BBMX is having a double-header at Prairie City MX. Friday is for practice as gates open at 8 a.m. with practice from 9 until 2 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday are race days. Gates open at 65:30 with practice starting at 8 a.m. and racing to follow.
- Saturday after the races there will be another popular Stacyc Race. These youngest riders race low power electric bikes on a short course.
• Riverfront MX has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday. Saturday from 9 until 2 p.m. is a ride day for the Old Timers then Sunday, from 9 until 2 p.m. its open practice.
• E Street MX Park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
• MMX Racing has Saturday practice from 9 until 2 p.m. on the main, sand and kid’s tracks. Sunday’s practice is from 9 until 2 p.m. with the vintage track added to the mix.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• Thursday at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub. The series is in the elimination rounds.
• Friday starts on ESPN 2 as at 6:55 a.m. the show Formula 1 practice from Qatar. Then at 9:55 the network airs Formula 1 qualifying.
• Saturday begins at 6:55 a.m. when ESPN 2 has the Formula 2 Shoot Out. Then at 9:30 a.m. USA has NASCAR Cup qualifying from the Roval at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
At 10:25 ESPN News has Formula 1 Sprint races from Qater. At noon NBC airs the Xfinity race from Charlotte and at 1 p.m. Fox Sports 2 has ARCA racing from Toledo.
• Sunday begins at 9:55 when ESPN broadcasts the Formula 1 race from Qatar. Six weeks from now they’ll be racing on the streets of Las Vegas.
The day ends on NBC when the network airs the race from Charlotte where the drivers face off on the Roval, a road course that also uses part of the oval. Every race is critical for those going after the championship.
That’s if for this weekend and it looks like we’ll have great weather. If possible get out to see a race or maybe the drifting event at Fernley 95A if not then attend a car meet where one can admire some great looking vehicles.
