RACING PREVIEW: AUGUST 10 TO 13

RENO, NV(Aug.13) — Slightly delayed this week. Hot August Nights is behind us but there are more car meets, special shows as well as racing as we head toward the end of summer.

CAR MEETS:

It’s time for the monthly Coffee & Chroms cruise in.

•As it is the second Saturday of the month there is a Coffee & Chroms Cruise-in at Sprinkle Donuts. The event runs from 10 to noon and  the shop is in the Mira Loma Shopping Center.

Classic Chevys Car Club has a meet at the National Auto Museum.

• The Classic Chevys Car Club, from 10 until 1 p.m. Saturday is have a meet. Location is the National Auto Museum in Reno and all makes of car are welcome.

• On Sunday Sparks Cars & Coffee is having their first meet this month by the Starbucks on Disc  Drive. Times are 10 to noon and there is usually a good collection of cars to see and admire.

The next Brunch ‘N’ Classics cruise in is this Sunday at Baldinis Casino.

• The next Brunch ‘N’ Classics Cruise-in is from 11 until 1 p.m. on Sunday. Location is the west parking lot at Baldinis Casino and there will be trophies, 50/50 Raffle as well as gift card drawings.

RACING (Four Wheel):

The season’s final points race at Diamond Mountain Speedway is this Saturday.

• Three tracks are racing this weekend. To the North Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville is hosting its final points race of the season. It’s also Pizza Factory night and there is a 6 p.m. start to the racing.

This Friday and Saturday Battle Mountain Raceway has two evenings of racing.

•To the east Battle Mountain Raceway has racing both Friday and Saturday nights. It’s the Pepe Villanueva Memorial races.

Summit Raceway is in action the Friday and Saturday. The Nevada Winged Sprint Cars are part of the show.

• Further east Summit Raceway in Elko is also having two nights of racing. The Northern Nevada Winged Sprints as well as 600cc Micro Sprints and Karts will round out the show.

Top Gun Drag Strip is back in action this Saturday.

• Top Gun Dragstrip, located south of Fallon is back in action Saturday. It will be a $5 Saturday and if one wants to race the cost is $20 for as many runs as the person wants.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

There is another Enticknap Training Camp this week.

• There is another Enticknap Training Camp at Fernley 95A Motor Sports Complex. Thursday is for the small bikes while Friday is for the Big Bikes.

There will be practice on the Motocross track both Saturday and Sunday.
  • Then on Saturday and Sunday from 8 until 1 p.m.  the motocross track has open practice.

• Over the hill there are practice sessions as well as a night race.

  • Prairie City, from 9 until 2 p.m. has practice on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
MMX Racing has practice this weekend plus an OSMX Ride Day on the vintage track.
  • MMX Racing has practice Saturday from 8 until 1 p.m. on the main, sand and kids tracks. Sunday from 8 until 1 p.m. there is practice on the main, sand and kids then from 8 until 1 p.m. the vintage track is reserved for the OSMX Ride day.
The next round of the Saturday Night Series is at Riverfront this Saturday.
  • – Riverfront MX has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday. Round 2 of the Saturday Night Series is this weekend. Gates open at noon, practice starts at 4 p.m. with racing to follow.
  • E Street  MX Park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. on the front and back tracks.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL)

• Thursday starts at 3 p.m. with NASCAR Today.

Then at 6 p.m. the SRX race is at Eldora and it can be seen on ESPN. This time everyone races on dirt.

There is a special visitor this race as NHRA Funny Car Champion Ron Caps will be racing there before heading to the NHRA event.

• Friday begins at 10a.m. on www.motortrendondemand.com when they broadcast the Gran Turismo Works Series 2023 Show Down for the Manufactures Cup from Amsterdam.

  • Then at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has a double header. At 3 p.m. air ARCA Racing and at 6 p.m. show the Craftsman Truck Series race. Both are on the road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

• Saturday begins back on Motor Trend as they broadcast Another Gran Turismo race but they time its for the Nation’s Cup.

  • Earlier at 7 a.m. the Peacock network has Raceway then at 10 a.m. airs the Pro Motocross races from Unadilla. They might be only showing the first motos.
  • The Indy Cars are doing a double header with NASCAR and their race starts at 11;30 and can be seen on the USA network.
  • At noon NBC will broadcast the second motos in this week’s Pro Motocross round.
  • Fox Sports 1 at 4 p.m. will have Qualifying Show #1 from the NHRA Nationals at Topeka.

• Sunday begins 10 a.m. when Fox Sports 1 broadcasts NHRA Qualifying Show #2. Then at noon the network airs their final runs from the Menards Nationals at Topeka.

• A bit earlier at 11:30 the NASCAR Cup drivers tackle the road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This usually an action packed event as turning onto the road course can be a challenge.

OTHER RACING NEWS:

Only a couple of weekend until the Outlaw Flat Trac motorcycle races happen.

Only a couple of more weeks before the annual outlaw Flat Trac Races are at Fuji Park. The track is located at the south end of Carson City.

Daveys American Racing is usually on Face Book at 6 p.m. Wednesday evenings. One can see the show on Face Book and get into the chat was well.

Davey covers national series as well as racing in the western United States. His focus is on oval tracks.

NOTE: Davey was laid up this week so, hopefully he’ll resume his broadcasts next Wednesday.
