RENO, NV (June 21) — Finally summer is here and racing I still hot. Looks to be good weather this weekend with several car shows, races as well as a lot on TV.
CAR MEETS:
• The Thursday Cruznite gets the weekend rolling with a nice ride up 395, over to 70 and ends at the Chilcoot Frosty & Goodwins General Store. Location is right beside the highway at the turn off to Frenchman’s Lake.
• This year the annual Women With Wheelz has moved to the parking lot at Baldini’s Casino in Sparks. Usually a good mix of cars, it’s open to all years and makes, models and there are awards as well as a raffle. Ladies if you have a car you want to show, this is the place.
• With the recent weather if your car needs a wash the Lingerie Car Wash is this Saturday. Times are12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and the location is Palomino Rims & Tires at 1505 Glendale Avenue in Sparks.
• Down at Washoe Lake State Park on Saturday Untouchable Image of Northern Nevada is having a potluck. The event begins at 2 p.m. and they are supplying the food. It’s free but donations are appreciated.
• On Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. Sparks Cars & Coffee are holding their second meet of the month. Location is by the Starbucks on Disc Drive.
RACING (4-WHEEL):
• Big news this weekend is that, due to a second storm’s damage, the entire weekend at Top Gun Drag Strip has been canceled.
• To the east Summit Raceway has two nights of racing. Gates open at 3 p.m. with racing starting at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
• A little closer to home Lovelock Speedway has a two-day show and spectator gates will open each day. On Friday racing begins at 7 p.m. then on Saturday it’s a 6 p.m. start to the action.
• This weekend is the next Boonie Bash on the road course at Fernley 95A Speedway. Starts at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday and one can ride in a drifting car.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• Round 5 of this year’s BBMX series is this weekend at Elko. On line signups are still open but remember to check in when arriving so transponders can be checked.
Saturday is for heat races and once those are over there will be a Stacyc Race. This event is for the youngest riders and they race using electric motorcycles on a very shot course.
• Closer to home at Desert Park Raceway, home track for the Northern Nevada Kart Club hosts round 5 of the Supermoto Race Series. Saturday the riders use the full paved track then on Sunday there are openings in the fence so its dirt and asphalt.
• The MX track at Fernley Ninetyfivea Motor Sports Complex will be busy for three days this weekend. Friday and Saturday is when there is the next Enticknap Training Camp and from 8 until 1 p.m. Sunday it’s open practice.
• Over the hill from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday E Street MX Park has open practice.
• Riverfront MX has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday then from 9 to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Prairie City MX has practice from 9 to 2 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
• MMX has a varied schedule this weekend. Saturday is when Moto Mike MX Training classes uses the track.
Then it’s the next round of the 2023 Pro MX Summer Sundayz races.
RACES (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• Thursday at 3 p.m. is when Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub.
• Fox Sports 1 has a double header. At 2:30 p.m. it NHRA Qualifying Shoew #1 then at 5 p.m. the network airs the Craftsman Truck Series race from Nashville.
• Saturday gets going at 12:30 p.m. when the USA Network shows the Xfinity race from Nashville and at 3 p.m., on a delayed basis, www.mavtv.com has the first MotoAmerica Superbike race from Shelton.
– At 4 p.m. Fox Sports 1 airs the NHRA Qualifying Show #2 from Ohio. Then, on a delayed basis, at 4:30 p.m. CBS Sorts has the Formula E race from Portland.
– The day ends of Fox Sports 2 at 6 p.m. when that network airs the ARCA Racing event from Minnesota.
• Sunday is another busy day starting at 10:30, on a delayed basis, as CNBC shows the MotoGP race from Assen.
- At 11 a.m., on a delayed basis, the USA Network has the IMSA Weathertech Sport Car race from Watkins Glen, New York. These high tech machines get to tackle a classic road course.
- At 1 p.m. FOX has the NHRA Norwalknatl’s from Norwalk, Ohio. Then at 3 p.m., on a delayed basis, www.mavtv.com has the second MotoAmerica Super Bike race from Shelton.
- Finally the day ends at 4 p.m. when NBC airs the NASCAR Cup race from Nashville. This weekend NASCAR is at Music City.
OTHER RACING NEWS:
• Daveys American Racing is usually on at 6 p.m. Wednesday evenings. One can see the show on Face Book and get into the chat was well.
Davey covers national series as well as racing in the western United States. His focus is on oval tracks.
