WILD NIGHT AT RATTLESNAKE RACEWAY

FALLON, NV (May 27) — Rattlesnake Raceway hosted a Friday-Saturday racing event. Saturday’s got off to a late start due to rain but once things dried out it was time for action.

However prior to the start there was a front stretch ceremony honoring veterans that either have been lost or have passed as Memorial Day is on Monday.

Then the crowd also honored promoter Rusty McMillan as it was his birthday. So they all sang Happy Birthday to him.

Street Stocks started the features. Earlier after their heat races there was a Slow Dash won by Logan Sage.

This weekend is the second round of the Street Stock Classic series so points were important. When the green waved Royce Goetz took off with the pack chasing him.

When the Street Stock main began Royce Goetz was chased by Randy Boyd.

Giving chase in second was Randy Boyd but he also dueled Mikki Beuchat and Carl Barlow for that spot. Eventually Boyd claimed the sport and was chasing Goetz.

Three cautions slowed the pace but the final one, in the final laps, came as Goetz was going to lap a slower car. At one time it was three-wide when the outside car got sideways.

This caused a crash that took out Goetz and another car, which caused a red flag. During the clean up both wrecked cars were towed back to the pits.

Up front Boyd took the gift and roared off to claim the victory. He was followed by runner up Beuchat and third place Barlow.

Right after the checkered flag a crash rolled the car of J.T. Stark over. Here the track crew rolls it back onto its wheels.

Right after the checkered the red flag came out as the car of J.T. Stark was involved in contact that put his car on its lid. Thankfully he was uninjured and the track crew rolled the car back on its wheels.

Randy Boyd celebrates after winning the Street Stock race.

In victory circle Boyd said, “It was crazy, I don’t think I would have been able to pass Royce clean and he got taken out. It sucks for that. Still a good race and had a lot of fun.”

Then he thanked Icon Pistons, his wife, family and friends as well as Royce Goetz Racing.

When the Dwarf Car feature began Glenn Sciarani briefly let Joe Frock.

Next up was the Dwarf Cars. On the green Glenn Sciarani briefly took the lead.

By the time they reached the backstretch Joe Frock was in command and leaving everyone. Three cautions slowed the pace but on every restart Frock took off and would win followed by Sciarani and William Christiano.

After Frock sent this quote, “Excellent track tonight, Rusty has this track dialed in. Smooth and fast. It was the best I have ever seen it.

“They have done a ton of work on this place and it shows. We made some tweaks to the car and it really responded well. Best laps we have ever turned here.”

Then he thanked sponsors, R&J Landscaping Wild Island Nieman Metal Works, Diatte Racing Innovations Zoomaluma Graphics, Voss Fab Bodies by DBD, Hooked Up Performance Products and Wheelman Supply house.

Now it was time for the Mini Stocks to take to the track. On the green Kent Knisley took off with Travis Showe and Colton Blankenship in hot pursuit.

Behind them Cooper Lee moved from the back to fourth. But up front Knisley was able to hold everyone off.

Eventually the lead trip caught slower traffic and Knisley was able to get past it first. This allowed for a gap to develop.

Heading to the checkered flag Kent Knisley had Travis Showe right behind him.

A caution for debris bunched the cars but on the restart Knisley took off with Showe close behind him. Coming out of Turn 4 and headed for the checkered the lead duo were nose-to-tail and Knisley scored the narrow victory over Showe.

After winning the Mini Stock main Kent Knisley celebrates.

In Victory Circle Knisley said, “I had no idea how close he (Showe) was but knew he was on my butt somewhere. It was pretty cool, wasn’t expecting it all but I’m excited.”

Then he thanked his brothers, Joseph, Cooper and Jordan. He also thanked Shorty (Showe), Glenn Lee and Old Iron Motorsports.

Next were the IMCA Modifieds and on the green Wade Lumsden and Katelynn Robertson were on the front row. By the second turn Robertson held the lead.

Things slowed after Kody Howard spun in Turn 4 and brought out a caution. Once the green waved again Robertson took off with Alec Childs giving chase,

Next caution came after Howard got sideways coming out of Turn 4 and collected Robertson, who could not avoid him. Fortunately her car only suffered some slight nose damage, she was given her spot back.

Despite the damage to the nose of her car Katelynn Robertson held the lead until a late lap spin dropped her back.

Now the chase was on as Childs was trying to catch the flying Robertson. The race was decided with only few laps to go when she made a mistake, spun in Turn 1 and handed the lead to Childs.

Alec Childs takes the checkered and wins the IMCA Modified main.

At the checkered Childs scored the victory followed by runner up Lumsden and third place Zach Cail.

IMCA Modfied winnere Alec Childs in victory circle.

After the race Childs said, “The race was wild. Was in the top three there for the last 15 or so laps.”

Then he thanked his parents, girlfriend, Rand Racing, Area 41 Motorsports, BSB Racer Chassis and M&M Metal.

Northern Sport Mod early leader Cole Olexiewcz is chased by Jason Jovanelly.

The IMCA Northern Sport Mods or B Mods were next. On the green Cole Olexiewicz took off with Jason Jovanelly giving chase

Jason Jovanelly won the Northern Sport Mod main.

Two cautions for spins bunched the cars but on every restart Olexiewicz held the lead. That is until he also spun in Turn 2 handing the lead and victory to Jovanelly.

The IMCA Stock Cars followed this feature. Zach Cail was first on point until the second lap when Marie Curtis took the lead.

Early leader Marie Curtis is chasedby Jacob Dias in the IMCA Stock Car main.

Soon Jacob Dias worked his way through the pack and took over second. Now the chase was on as he and Curtis ran nose-to-tail for several laps.

Jacob Dias makes the winning pass during the IMCA Stock Car feature.

Finally Dias took the inside line and made the winning pass while going down the front straight. At the checkered it was Dias, Curtis, Cail followed by the birthday boy, fourth place Rusty McMillan.

For Dias it was a comeback after rolling his car last week up at Susanville.

After rolling his car last week in Susanville this week Jacob Dias celebrate winning Saturday’s IMCA Stock Car main.

“It took a little but knew I had to take my time,” he said. “After last week was a big step down so I just wanted to have good revenge. I went over in Susanville and it’s really a good comeback in victory lane.”

Then he thanked his dad, who is his best friend, his fiancée, Portable Painting, Goodwin’s General Store, and everyone who has supported him.

The racing ended with the Bootlegger feature. When the green waved Sam Miller and Robbie Schostag were leading.

For much of the Bootlegger main Sam Miller had to hold off a determine Shari Hollis.

Soon Miller was extending the lead he had until Schostag slowed causing a caution. When the green waved again Miller took off but this time he had Shari Hollis after him.

As the laps went on Hollis was challenging Miller for the lead. They were also pulling away from third place Jerome Kleve and the pack.

Sam Miller wins the Bootlegger feature.

At the checkered it was Miller, Hollis and third place Kleve with Ray Blankenship ending up fourth.

Asked if he know how close the other car was Miller said, “I could hear him behind me but that’s about all I could hear, never saw him. Lappers were no problem as they were told to stay in their lane so I just took the other lane.”

Then he thanked his parents and his sponsors. Also special thanks to Tray for the use of a trailer and Savage Beauty Creations for the vinyl decals on the car.

Friday results are listed after the sponsors list.

Next for Rattlesnake is Octane Fest on June 9 and 10, another Friday-Saturday event. Rattlesnake is also working on bringing back Outlaw Karts.
