RENO, NV (May 3) — It appears spring has really arrived, knock on wood. There are a bunch of events this weekend, both in our region as well as bunch on TV.
CAR MEETS:
• 775 Offroad and Recovery is having a 4X4 Show N’ Shine at Fuji Park in Carson City on Saturday. Show opens at 10 a.m. and it’s a family event with spectators getting in for free.
• Reno Cars & Coffee gets the month started with a meet by the Keitzke Starbucks. Things get going around 10 a.m. Sunday and there is usually a pretty good mix of cars and trucks.
• The Northern Nevada Classics is staging the 4th Annual Sierra Nevada Zoological Park Charity Cruise. Meet up at 11 a.m. at Summit Racing Equipment in Sparks then the cruise will begin after that.
4-WHEEL EVENTS:
• Saturday and Sunday the Regional Training Center will be busy as the Reno SCCA hosts rounds 3 and4 of its Solo (Autocross) Series. For further information please check www.renoscca.org.
• Saturday starting a 6 p.m. is when the next race at Diamond Mountain Speedway begins. The track is located in Susanville, California. Driver’s meeting is at 5 p.m.
• This weekend Top Gun Drag Strip starts its 2023 season.
- Friday, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. is a Test N’ Tune session but it’s not the traditional $5 Friday. This way those racers that can are be able to check out their cars before thing get rolling.
- Saturday the season begins with the #1 Summit ET series race and Sunday the #2 race happens. Gates open at 7 a.m. both days and there is a 9:30 a.m. start to the action.
- To the east the Winnemucca Regional Raceway has the next round of its 2023 season. The Friday-Saturday show should get going around 7 p.m. each night.
- This Sunday, starting around 9 a.m. is when the Northern Nevada Kart Club begins its season. They’ll use Track #3 and to pre-register please to go, www.nnkcreno.com.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTORCYCLES):
• We’re going to start with a Camp & Ride event out at Moon Rocks this weekend. The weather should be great but a bit cool at night and the event sounds like a great time.
• Fernley Ninetyfive A Speedway has two days of practice on its Motocross track. Hours are from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and the weather should be great.
• Riverfront MX from 5 until 10 p.m. has practice then on Saturday, from 9 until 2 p.m. the Sierra Old Timers have a practice on the track. No further night practice this night due to Prairie City hosting a Mammoth Qualifier.
• Prairie City is the site for the current Mammoth Qualifier. It’s round 5 for the Road to Mammoth series.
• E Street MX is hosting the next round of its SXS series Saturday so no MX practice that day. On Sunday, from 9 until 2 p.m. there is open practice.
• MMX Racing has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday on the Sand and Kid’s tracks. Then from 9 until 3 p.m. Sunday with the Vintage and Main tracks added to the mix.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• On Thursday, starting at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub.
• ESPN2 has two Formula 1 practice sessions from Miami with the first at 11:25 then at 2:55 p.m. they show the second practice.
• Saturday starts at 5:30 a.m. when the CBS Sports Network airs the Formula E race from Monaco. Then at 9:25 a.m. ESPN shows the third Formula 1 practice from Miami.
- Fox Sports at 11 a.m. airs the ARCA Racing event from Kansas Speedway. At 12:30 p.m. Peacock starts Race Day Live from the Supercross event in Denver.
- At 12:55 ESPN has Formula 1 qualifying from Miami then at 5 p.m. Fox Sports 1 airs the Craftsman Truck Series from Kansas Speedway.
- Only two more rounds to go and at 6 p.m. Peacock has the AMA Supercross race from Denver. Can the west and 450 titles be clinched then? Only time will tell.
• ABC gets Sunday rolling at 11 a.m. when the network broadcasts the Grand Prix of Miami as the Formula 1 stars negotiate that circuit.
- At that same time CNBC broadcasts the World Superbike Championship round from Catalunya, Spain.
- The weekend ends when Fox Sports 1 airs the NASCAR Cup event from Kansas Speedway. Should be interesting to see how the new cars handle on this track.
That’s it for this weekend. Should be good but a bit cooler weather so if possible get out to see a car meet or a race. There is nothing like it.
