MRANN RABBIT RAMPAGE ON EASTER

LOVELOCK, NV (April 9) — The Mason Valley Dirt Squirts celebrated Easter with the Rabbit Rampage. The two-day event was located at the Lovelock Speedway.

As usual the new Big Bike Pro (AA) class led the charge on Sunday. For a rider to be classed as a finisher they had to complete one full 50-mile lap although many others did the full two laps. When the lines were launched 103 left the starting line and 99 finished.

Austin Serpa (20) leads the AA charge while Adam Enox and Koleton Requli-Jones give chase.

On the pro launch Austin Serpa was slightly on point with Adam Enox and Koleton Requli-Jones close behind him. Jesse Richardson would briefly lead the Expert charge from the starting line.

After the lines started they made a left turn then headed up a wash that took them into the hills. The course even had some muddy areas plus other things.

In the end Serpa had an almost three minute lead over runner up Corey Fletcher. Coming fourth was Russell Tojum and Red Herrera was the first Expert to complete the two laps.

After taking the checkered Serpa said, “The track was fun. The challenging part was between 25 and 30 as they had us run down a series of ravines, waterfall, there were a couple of mud pools that got pretty deep too, super fun. I did go down starting the second lap.”

Then he thanked Carson City Motorsports, his parents, Precision Stabilizer, Delaney Drive components, FMF, Parts Unlimited and Regulus Performance for keeping me fit.

Serpa’s total time was 2:43:08 while runner up Corey Fletcher’s time was 2:45:54 so about a three minute gap between first and second. Third over all was Russell Tonjum and his elapsed time was 2:49:55.

Corey Fletcher finished second overall and runner up in the AA Pro class.

After finishing Fletcher said, “The race was good, I got a bad start per usual for me but started picking through the dust, made some passes. Dust was pretty bad down low, you had to be careful because there were a lot of rocks everywhere.

“So pushing at all gets dangerous, so you had to make some smart passes. But finally started making passes, made a pass for second and saw Austin but just couldn’t push any harder.”

Then he thanked his parents and everyone one that supports him. He also appreciated sponsors Gil with TDC Suspension, Jason with Let’s Ride and DDC.

Fourth over all was the first expert, Red Herrera, whose elapsed time was 2:54:32. Good finishes don’t always go to the young as he races in the Over 30 Expert Class.

Red Herrera in 40+ Expert ended up fourth overall and was the highest placed Expert.

“The race was actually pretty good, there’s a lot of, little bit of everything here and there, a little but of mud, snow, slush, rocks, they put on a hell of a course. It was all pretty flowly , pretty good.

“The first part was pretty dangerous, cause you’re riding fast in the dust. There were a lot of guys all over the start up there. Other than that, was marked good, only got lost once and I’ll be back for this one for sure.”

Then he gave thanks to his girls, wife Danielle, Mother-in-Law Lorie and his daughter Violet.

Going down the finisher list Adam DeVargas ended up 16th and was the first amateur to complete both lap.

First amateur to finish both laps was Adam DeVargas, who rides in the Open Amatuer divisioin.

“Oh man, I’m super excited, that was amazing, had a taste of everything; rocks, super flowly lines, lot of freaking breaking bumps but overall pretty amazing,” he said. “There was some cool snow and mud up there. Got my best girl in the world here and my wife keep me on the right track.”

Then he thanked God, his wife Terin, son Jenoa, daughter Azriele and their pups. On his bike he carries a picture of his departed father, who enjoyed the racing.

Jesse Richardson, who rides in the Over 40 class topped his division by finishing 12th..

Jesse Richardson, who ended up 12th was the first Over 40 Expert to complete both laps. Moving down to 22nd Robert McAdams was the first 4-Stroke Expert to finish.

At the top of the age ladder is Gil Grieve, who won the Over 60 class end ended up 24th.

At the top of the age group was Gil Grieve as he rides in the Over 60 class and ended up 24th. In 27th place was Dan Dayes, the first Over 50 Amateur to finish.

First women to finish was Christina Courtney, who rides in the Amateur division and ended up 25th overall.

Finishing 25th was Christina Courtney who rides in Women’s Amateur. Further down in 45th was Kylah Krupa, who rides in Women Novice.

The top 3 AA Pros hold up what they earned by finishing in the top three. Not bad for a good fun days work.

The AA class is the new pro class and they race for money. After the first three finished all posed for a final picture.

• On Saturday the youngsters that race in the Pee Wee and Mini Bike classes raced on a short court. Joining the Mini Bikes were the V Women and Bombers. The results are posted at the end of this article.

Next round for MRANN is “The 100 and Whatever” event held in the Winnemucca area on the weekend of May 13-14. Online registration is now open and closes on May 10.
