RACING PREVIEW: APRIL 6 TO 9

RENO, NV (April 5) — Well here it is, Easter weekend and there is plenty of racing going.  We have races in our region as well as some on TV.

CAR MEETS:

• Only one on tap for this weekend as, starting at 10 a.m. Sparks Cars & Coffee is meeting close to the Starbucks off Disc Drive. Should be great weather so hope they get a good car count.

Saturday is when the 2nd annual Bret Palmer off-road poker run will happen.

• On Saturday there is the 2nd Annual Brett G Palmer Freedom Run. It’s an off-road poker run and is sponsored by two groups, should be fun for those that enjoy off-road adventures..

RACING (4-Wheel):

Diamond Mountain Speedway begins its season with a Friday-Saturday show this weekend.

• Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville starts its season with a two-day show this weekend. Friday racing begins at 7 p.m. while it’s a 6 p.m. start on Saturday.

Friday is a “Kids Win a Bike,” night then on Saturday, during the intermission, there is an Easter egg hunt for the kids on the infield, always a good but crazy time

This weekend starts a new Street Stock Series at Diamond Mountain Speedway.

The weekend also beings a new traveling series for the Renegade Street Stock Classic. Six points races on three different tracks starting at Diamond Mountain.

RACING & PRACTICE (Motorcycles):

• Fernley 95A Motorsport Complex has two days of practice this weekend. Hours are from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Next weekend the track hosts a round of the Old Timers Nationals. So on Sunday riders 30 years and older only pay $25 to practice. Great way to tune up for the upcoming nationals.

• To the east the Mason Valley Dirt Squirts is hosting the next round of the MRANN series. The site for the pits as well as start and finish are at the Lovelock Speedway so it’s paved to there.

As usual Saturday is when the Pee Wees, Mini Bikes, V Women as well as the Bombers race and there is a 10 a.m. start. On Easter Sunday there will be services at 7:30 followed by an Easter Egg hunt for those 12 and younger.

Then at 10 a.m. the big bikes take to a 50-mile long course. The new AA class will race and riders must complete one lap to be classed as a finisher

• Over the hill weather might be a factor. Riverfront MX will have practice from 5 until 10 p.m. but this weekend’s schedule depends on the weather.

• Prairie City, from 9 until 2 p.m. on Friday has a OTH ride day. Then from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday it’s a ride for the Sierra OTHG group. Sunday, depending on the weather, will have open practice from 9 until 2 p.m.

• E Steet MX Park on Thursday and Friday has the MX Clinic classes. If the weather holds there will be practice on Saturday fro 9 until 2 p.m. and the track is closed on Easter Sunday.

• Nothing was posted for MMX but if they can there should be practice from 9 until 2 p.m.  Saturday and Sunday.

RACING (NATIONAL):

• Thursday at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub. A lot is going on right now but don’t know if they will cover that.

• Friday is a dead day so one might want to check out, www.youtube.com, www.floracing.com, www.mavtv.com and www.dirtvision.com.  Might seem some racing you missed.

• On Saturday Peacock gets going at 1:30 p.m. with the Pre-Race show followed at 7 p.m. with this week’s AMA Supercross from Glendale, Arizona. Be interesting how it goes after having a week off.

  • Then at 5 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the Craftsman Truck Series race from Bristol.

• Sunday is pretty sparse but starting at 4 p.m. Fox has the NASCAR Cup race from Bristol Motor Speedway. This race is like having rocket ships in a bathtub and can be action packed.

Well that’s it for this weekend. If possible do get out and see a race as there is nothing like it. We should be blessed with good weather through Sunday.

When VORRA goes to Yerington next week they’ll use a new off-road park. The ribbon cutting is at 11:30 on Friday.

• Next weekend the VORRA series will be racing outside of Yerington, Nevada. They recently got access to a new1,000 acre off-road park.

There will be a ribbon-cutting event at 11:30 a.m. on Friday. Everyone is looking forward to racing on the new course.

Daveys Amercian Racing is usually on at 6 p.m. Wednesday evenings. One can see the show on Face Book and get into the chat was well.

Davey covers national series as well as racing in the western United States. His focus is on oval tracks.
