RACING PREVIEW: MARCH 20 TO APRIL 2

RENO, NV (March 29) — Well March, which came in as a lion, is trying to leave as one. But this weekend we get a break as it is full of various events not to mention the fare on TV.

CAR MEETS:

• Things get rolling with the annual Off-Road & Motorsports Expo that is part of the Lockett show at the Convention Center. It started Wednesday and runs through Sunday. Great way to see off-road groups and some racing groups as well.

• Sunday is a busy day for two groups.

Reno Cars & Coffee has a meet that starts at 10 a.m. on Sunda.

-Over by the Kietzke Starbucks, starting at 10 a.m., Reno Cars and Coffee has a meet. Good weather should bring a bunch of cars.

  • Not far away, by the Human Bean Coffee Stand located at the corner of South McCarren and Longely Lane, Reno Jeeps & Coffee is also having a meet. It too starts at 10 a.m. and runs until noon.
Feeling dirty and muddy, well Saturday’s Mud Fest might be where you want to be.

• Saturday, starting at noon, is the April Fools Mudfest. Location is off Lemmon Drive where it turns west, take the dirt road to the east and look for the cars & trucks.

RACING (REGIONAL 4-WHEELS):

Battle Born MX has two days of drifting at the 95A Speedway road course.

• The road course at 95A Speedway will be busy this weekend as Battle Born MS hosts the Spring Fling Drift Party. Both days start at 9 a.m. and on Saturday part of the event will be under the lights.

• The Reno SCCA region is hosting two rounds of its Solo (Autocross) season this weekend. Both days start at 7:30 and are held at the Regional Safety Center.

• This weekend E-Street MX Park is starting its SXS (Side-by-Side) Series. Gates open at 6:30 a.m. each day.

This weekend starts the 2023 SXS season at E-Street MX.
  • On Saturday there is tech and a 7:30 driver’s meeting an 8 a.m. start to the races. Sunday gates open at 6:30 and racing begins at 8 a.m.

• Diamond Mountain Speedway, in Susanville, has its Test & Tune Session, starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday. To the east Winnemucca Regional Raceway, running from 10 until 3 p.m. Saturday also has a Test ‘N Tune session.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

The Pre-Race drawing party is this Saturday night.

For those that have registered for this years Virginia City Grand Prix Saturday is a big day. It’s the Pre-Race Drawing Party held at the Red Dog Saloon.

The will be a vintage bike display as well as an auction for a front row starting position. Should be a great time and looks like the weather will cooperate.

High water caused round 2 of the BBMX season to be postponed.

• Due to the high water the second round for the BBMX series at Riverfront MX has been postponed until August. Depending on what happens there might be practice on Sunday but be sure to check before heading out.

– Prairie City is still closed until the track work is completed.

There are two training classes at the MX track on Thursday and Friday.

• Closer to home the MX track at Fernley 95A Motor Sports Complex has two training camps. Thursday is for small bikes while Friday is for big bikes.

  • Then from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday there are practice sessions at the track.

• MMX Racing from 9 until 3 p.m. has Motomike MX Training at the track. Not sure but there might be practice from 9 until 3 p.m. on Sunday.

• For you Supercross fans, they have this weekend off and will race on Easter Sunday.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday gets going early at 2:50 a.m. when ESPN 3 has Formula 3 practice from Melbourne, Australia. Then at 4 a.m. the network has Formula 2 practice and at 6:25 a.m. there is Formula 1 practice.

  • At 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub. Then at 7:30 p.m. www.mavtv.com has Mobil The Grid.

– Later at 6:25 and 11 p.m. ESPN 2 has Formula 1 practice.

• Friday is a slow day but at 10 p.m. ESPN has Formula 1 Qualifying from Melbourne,

• Saturday gets going at 7 a.m. when Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Cup Qualifying from Richmond then at 10 a.m. the network airs the Xfinity race.

  • Over on Peacock at 9:15 a.m. there is Indy Car Qualifying from Fort Worth, Texas and at 1:30 p.m. Fox Sports has the Craftsman Truck Series race from there.

– At 4 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA Qualifying Race #1 from Pomona.

  • Then at 9:55 p.m. ESPN airs the Formula 1 race from Melbourne. Another of the series globe trotting event.

• Sunday starts at 9 a.m. when NBC airs the Indy Car race from Fort Worth, Texas.

  • Then at 9:30 a.m. Fox Sports has the NHRA Qualifying Show #2.

– CNBC at noon, on a delayed basis has Saturday’s MotoGP race from Argentina.

– At 12:30 p.m. Fox Sports 1 broadcasts the NASCAR Cup race from Richmond. It’s sort of a short track that races like a much larger one, with all the current penalties happening could be interesting.

  • Finally the weekend ends with the NHRA Winter Nationals. They return to the series home in Pomona, California.
