BBMX STARTS 2023 SEASON AT WINNEMUCCA

WINNEMUCCA, NV (March 19) — Cool, cloudy weather greeted motocross racers as they opened the 2023 season for Battle Born MX. In the pits where were license plates from California, Nevada, Idaho and Utah as the turn out was great.

For one 17-year-old Salt Lake City racer it was a grand  and fast day.

Gage Wilcox, from Salt Lake City, scored wins in three different classes

After starting the second set of motos and winning the Open A&B race Greg Wilcox said, “It’s getting rougher, the dirt’s still good but the track is definitely getting gnarly. I’m only doing pro so we’ll see how it goes as I’ve got I’ve got two more motos to go.

Then he thanked Let’s Ride for his awesome bike, X-Brand, Fly, everybody else. 

He scored two more race wins and was the day’s only three-time winner.

In the 50cc Open first heat Suzuki Fayet (105) leads eventual winner Mason Sperry.

There were other multiple winners and in the 50cc classes Wade Lavezzo won the 6 & Under as well as the Open Classes. In the 7 & Up class Ducati Fayet was the winner.

In the 50cc 6 & Under Class Parker Ellison had some challenges with the soft dirt but finished.

One rider that finished their first moto was 5-year-old Parker Ellison. His father was the rooting section and encouraging him even when he got stuck for a bit in the soft dirt.

Billy Smith won the 65cc 10 & Over Class.

The 65cc winners were Gunnar Canning in the 9 & Under Class while the 10 & Up winner was Billy Smith. In the Open Class it was Dillon Lager, who won.

Finishing third in the 65cc 10 & Over Class was Summer McMillen. Her red Toto added some color to the race.

Another rider that comes out of a racing family is Summer McMillen, who was third overall. She added some color to the class by wearing a red Toto over her riding suit.

Rocket Richardson scored a double when he won the 85cc Open as well as the 13 & Over Class.

The 85cc Class is the last small bike before riders move up into the big bike classes. Rocket Richardson scored a pair of victories when he won the 13 & Up and Open Classes

Other winners were Ryan Pacella in 12 & Under and Jesse Miller was the Supermini victor.

Moving up the age ladder there were a bunch of classes for veteran racers. One of them was Matt Manha, who won both the Master Classes in the 38 + and 45+ Divisions.

Tim Anderson was the oldest racer, he rode in the 58+ Class, and this was his first race in25 years.

Topping the age bracket was the 58+ Class and for its only entry this was a very special event.

“This is my first race in 25 years and I live here in Winnemucca,” Tim Anderson said. “What happened is I got transferred to Wyoming then got out of racing and came back to Nevada about a year ago. I work for Nevada Gold Mines out of Winnemucca here.

“The course is really good. It’s a really nice course they are putting on for the first race of the year they’re putting on a good race. I’m going to follow the Battle Born MX series all year then next year I’ll hit more of the Over the Hill Gang Nationals.”

Then he thanked his wife and daughter then gave a very special thanks.

“I thank the Lord Jesus Christ for being my savior for the family he’s given me,” he said.

Sedanna Losey won the Women’s A Class.

In the Women’s Class Sedanna Losey won the A Class but was chased the entire race by her daughter Hayden. The B winner was Lily Powning while Brittany Wissenback was the C winner.

In Collegeboy Zachary Larsen won while Joshua Black was the Schoolboy winner. Open winners were Connor Gaarenstroom in the C&D division while Gage Wilcox scored one of his victories in the A&B division.

There was a 2-Stroke race where Taye Pepper scored the victory. Only two riders were in the single Club Moto and Timothy Trainor won followed by Tim Anderson.

Another double winner was James Larsen, who won the Sportsman C class in both the 125/250 and 250/450 Classes. Gage Wilcox scored victories in both of those groups Pro Classes.

The next round for BBMX will be at Riverfront MX on the weekend of April 1 and 2. The full results for this weekend will eventually be posted in the results section at www.battlebornmx.com.
