RENO, NV (Dec. 28) — Well here it is folks, we’re ending one year and are starting the next year of racing and car meets.
CAR MEETS:
• Saturday is pretty empty but New Year’s Day has two car meets and a trail run. Best part is there should be a break in the weather.
• Reno Cars & Coffee gets 2023 rolling starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Location is at the Keitzke Starbucks and if it’s cold remember they have hot chocolate.
• Further south a new group, Reno Jeeps & Coffee, has a 4-wheel theme to its first meet. Location is the Human Bean by the intersection of South McCarran and Longely.
• Nevada Jeep Club is also meeting for a trail ride that begins at 9 a.m. Sunday. The event is the New Years Day M.G.L Mine & Mill.
Goes through School Bus Canyon trail. Meeting place is the Starbucks located at 1550 E. Lincoln Way in Sparks. Of course weather Friday and Saturday might change this.
PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• Looks like Mother Nature is going to throw a spanner into the works this weekend.
- Fernley 95A Motosports Complex has the motocross track closed for this weekend. Have to see what happens the second weekend of the New Year.
• Motocross tracks in Northern California are facing rain so they might not be open for practice. Best bet is to check the particular track you like before heading out.
- E-Street MX Park has already canceled the 28th practice and noted it doesn’t look too good going into the weekend.
- Both Riverfront and Prairie City are closed this weekend due to rain.
- MMX Racing is pretty iffy as well. Looks like the rain is going to have a big effect on everyone.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL)
• Friday is a big day for off-road fans as the annual Dakar Rally begins then. Once again it is held in Saudi Arabia and all the racers will be challenged by the terrain.
The event also brings out some crazy photographers. The Rally has a Face Book page that lists where one can watch at least highlights and Peacock will cover the entire event with highlights.
• The hoped for two-day event at Stockton Dirt Track and Antioch Speedway have been canceled. Both tracks could be flooded from the rain.
• Over in Tulsa the Locas Oil Tulsa Shootout begins today. The championship night is New Year’s Eve. Then things briefly settle down but soon the annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals begin, in fact they start qualifying on Sunday the 8th.
- This year www.floracing.com is broadcasting both the Shootout and Nationals. There also might be highlights on www.youtube.com.
• To the south in Arizona the annual Winter Nationals begins Tuesday at Cocopah Speedway. They usually get a huge turn out for this but don’t know if there is a live feed for it.
That’s it for now. Wishing all of you out there a safe weekend and a Happy New Year. See you in 2023.
