RENO, NV (Dec.11) — Old Man Winter’s arrival caused problems for one major event and probably affected a car meet on Sunday. Due to that this edition is on the short side.
However we’re going to start looking at this coming weekend. Weather looks like it might not be a factor and there are a bunch of things happening.
• Due to the incoming storm and the hazards it could present, Virginia City for the first time canceled Saturday’s second Parade of Lights. The parade is full of cars, trucks and floats all lit up and decorated for the holidays then a fire works show ends the night.
The Sheriff closed the Geiger Grade, Six Mile Canyon but apparently left the truck route open. Only residents could go in and out.
On Sunday the weather probably had a negative effect on the Sparks Cars and Coffee meet. I’m sure the turn out, if there was one, was probably very light. This reporter decided to stay off the roads so wasn’t able to attend the meet.
CAR MEETS:
• Now we look ahead and there are several events this coming Saturday.
- For you motocross and dirt bike folks, Moto-Source is having its annual Holiday Open house starting at 10 a.m. Saturday. It’s a full service shop with a showroom stocked with about anything a rider could want. The address is 3180 Mill Street in Reno.
-To the east and going from noon until 3 p.m. Fallon Cars & Coffee has its third weekend of the month meet. Due to the cold mornings the time has been changed and the location is the Alley Bar located at 1555 S. Taylor Street.
• Two organizations have their own parade of lights Saturday evening.
- Nevada Jeep Club, starting at 4:30, will host the 2nd Annual Nevada Jeep Christmas Parade Of Lights. The group starts at 101 North Carson Street, by the Jeep Dealership.
Then the decorated Jeeps parade past the Capitol Building, which is also decorated for Christmas, and through downtown.
- On the west side of Reno and starting at 4:30 p.m.is the Inaugural Bronco Christmas Parade. Meeting place is Bully’s Sports Bar and Grill. The Nevada Bronco Club, after the meet up, will convoy around Reno and go through downtown as well.
- Reno Cars & Coffee, starting at 10 a.m., is changing its location for this coming Sunday’s meet. It’s the 3rd Annual Cars for Tots to benefit Ashlee’s Toy Closet.
There will be coffee, donuts, Raffles and the Big Blue Q Food Truck present. The meet is another great time to meet car people as well as helping making Christmas bright for children.
As far as motocross practice that will be part of Thursday’s preview article. With no racing on top we’ll take another look into the Re-Run Zone.
Right now it appears Mother Nature will be kind to these meets this weekend although it will be a bit chilly.
More on Thursday, stay warm, please stay safe and enjoy the holidays and this special time of year.
