RENO, NV (Sept. 28) — As we exit September and head into the Bewitching month of October with a flurry of events. There are plenty of car meets while another Northern Nevada oval track ends its season. There are a bunch of events on TV both national and international.
CAR MEETS:
• Hot August Nights is hosting its Fall Frenzy and Coat Drive from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday. The location is Baldini’s Casino in Sparks.
• That afternoon Rail City Casino in Sparks is having October Fest Show & Shine. House are 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. and there are several prizes for cars on display.
• To the east Fernley Klassic Kruizers, from 9 until 3 p.m. has a car show at the Churchill County Fairgrounds in Fallon.
• Tahoe Cars & Coffee is meeting at 11 a.m. by the Tahoe Bagel Company. From there they are going to cruise over the Mt. Rose Highway and head for a location in the Damonte area.
• Here in Reno, from 2 until 5 p.m. there is a car show on Riverside Drive close to the McKinley Park School. Last year they had a great turn out for this event.
• Sunday, from 7 until 2 p.m. Baldini’s Casino is hosting the Classic Chevy’s Plus Swap Meet. Could be interesting if one is looking for hard to find parts.
• Reno Cars & Coffee is hosting its first of the month meet. Starts at 10 a.m. and the location is by the Keitzke Starbuck.
• There is another event, from noon until 4 p.m. called Hypetea. Location is at 1274 E. Plumb Lane in Reno.
RACING (REGIONAL):
• This weekend Winnemucca Regional Raceway ends its season with a Friday-Saturday show. Racing begins at 7 p.m. each night and it also marks the retirement of the track’s long time promoter.
• To the south the NORRA 500 race will be run in Baja. Local racing legend Mary McGee is the grand marshal. This race predates the SCORE events.
RACING & PRACTICE (Motocross):
• I believe Fernley NinetyfiveA Speedway will have its usual practice sessions. Thursday runs from 3 until dark then 9 to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. One should check just in case.
• This weekend the Cheaters Motorcycle Club host the next round in the MRANN series. It’s the Si Te Cah 100 and is off I-80 at Blue Wing Flat.
Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. is when the Pee Wees race followed by Mini Bikes then Women and Bombers. Sunday is when the big bikes get their turn. Racing begins at 9 a.m. and a rider must complete one of the two laps to be considered a finisher.
• Over the hill E Street MX Park should have practice sessions from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
• Riverfront MX has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. on Thursday. Saturday from 9 until 2 p.m. is a Sierra Old Timers Ride day while Sunday is open practice on all three tracks.
• Prairie City is a busy place this weekend. Friday, from 9 until 2 p.m. has practice. Saturday from 9 until 2 p.m. is practice for Sierra Over The Hill Gang.
Sunday has a special race as Sierra OTHG stages the 9th annual Relay to E-Race Breast Cancer. Gates open at 6:30, practice begins at 8 a.m. with racing to follow.
• Once again MMX Racing has not posted its schedule on Face Book.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• Fox Sports 1 at 3 p.m. Thursday has NASCAR Race Hub, then at 6 p.m. Fox Sports 2 has NHRA in 30.
• Friday starting at 1:35 p.m. www.imsa.tv will carry IMSA Weatherteh Sports Car qualifying from Road Atlanta. This race is the traditional end of their season.
• Saturday begins at 5:55 a.m. with Formula 1 qualifying from Singapore.
– The Petite Le Mans ends the IMSA Weathertech Sport Car series. It’s 12-hour race at Road Atlanta and three networks handle the coverage.
– NBC gets things rolling at 9 a.m. then at noon Peacock takes over until 7:30 p.m. USA also picks up the race from 4 p.m. until the end.
– Fox Sports 1, starting at 9:30 has the Camping World Truck series from Talladega. Then at 1 p.m. USA network airs the Xfinity race from Talladega.
• Sunday begins at 3:30 a.m. when ESPN 2 broadcasts the Formula 1 race from Singapore. Then at 9:30 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA Qualifying Show #1 from the Mid-West Natioinals.
– At 11 a.m. NBC airs the NASCAR Cup race from Talladega. Another elimination round and all the remaining NASCAR Cup races will be on network TV. Over on CNBC (Same Day Delayed) at 10:30 they will show the MotoGP race from Thailand.
– Finally at 11 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA Midwest Nationals from St. Louis. Another elimination as the straight line racers head for their championship round.
That’s it for this weekend. If possible get out and see a race. There is nothing like it for speed, color and excitement. If not catch one of the car shows.
