RACING PREVIEW: SEPT. 8 TO 11

RENO, NV (Sept. 7) — Another busy weekend for car, cruise and racing fans. Now that Labor Day is area tracks and professional series are getting ready to bring the curtain down on their seasons but there still is more to go.

 CAR MEETS & CRUISES:

The 2nd Annual Genoa Customs & Classics is this weekend. All makes and models are welcome.

• Saturday, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. is the 2nd Annual Genoa Customs & Classics Car Show in the downtown area. All Makes and Models are welcome and there are trophies, dash plaques and raffle prizes. 

Need 2 Speed is starting their indoor kart racing series.

• That same day the Need 2 Speed is starting the first round of its Battle Racers series. Times are from 10 until 3 p.m. and it’s at the indoor kart track located at Sierra Town Center where the Target Store in South Reno is. 

Nevada Jeep Club is honoring the memory of 911 with a convoy through Cafson City on Sunday.

• Sunday the Nevada Jeep Club is honoring the anniversary of 9-11 with a convoy through Carson City. Meeting time is 8:30 a.m. at the Carson Airport. If a person has a flag they ask you bring and fly it. 

• Sparks Cars & Coffee has its first meet of the month starting at 10 a.m. by the Starbucks located on Disc Drive.  

Sunday in Fallon there is the Blue Skies Veteran’s Benefit.

• To the east, starting at 10 a.m. there is the Blue Skies Veterans Benefit Show ‘N Shine Car Show in Fallon. There is also a poker run the meet is in the parking lot by Les Schwab Tires on the Reno Highway. 

On Sunday Baldini’s Casino is having its next Brunch ‘N Classics cruise in.

• There is also another Brunch ‘N Classics cruise-in, from11 to1 p.m, at Baldini’s on Sunday. All clubs and independents are welcome. They have trophies, 50/50 raffle and gift card drawings. 

RACING (REGIONAL):

American Valley Speedway has canceled its races schedule for this Saturday.

• American Valley Speedway in East Quincy, California announced they are cancelling this Saturday’s races. This leaves only the season ending Timber Cup event. 

• To the east Rattlesnake Raceway has two nights of racing this weekend. Friday begins at 7 p.m. and the gates open at 4 p.m. Saturday things begin at 6 p.m., gates at 3 p.m.

Rattlesnake Raceway has racing Friday and Saturday night.

Big race of the night is the Dennis Johnson Memorial where the Hobby Stock winner will pocket $2,000 for the victory. That’s a huge amount for this class so it should be a good field of cars plus the other classes. 

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTORCYCLE):

• The practice schedule for Fernley Ninetyfivea Speedway is 3:30 until dark on Thursday. Then from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. 

• MRANN is racing this weekend with a different schedule. Tankslappers M/C is hosting the Sprocket Rocket 100. 

MRANN begins its fall series this weekend. Unlike most races the big bikes go on Saturday. The Pee Wees, Women, Mini Bikes and Bombers get their turn on Sunday.

This Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. is when the big bikes will race. One has to compete at least on of the 50-mile loops to be classed as a finisher. Sunday, September 11, is when the Pee Wees start the day at 10:15 a.m. followed at noon by the Mini Bikes/Women and Bombers. 

Round 4 of the series is at Oatfield Raceway on Sunday.

• Sunday, at the Oatfield Raceway in Snelling, California is when Round 4 of this year’s 2022 Pro MX Fall series will be run. 

• The updates for Riverfront MX, Prairie City haven’t been posted. So its best to call first and that phone number 1-775-265-7223. 

• E Street MX has practice scheduled from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Once again best to check with the track before leaving. Their phone number is 1-530-446-4749. 

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• On Thursday Fox Sports 1 at 3 p.m. has NASCAR Race Hub. •

Fox Sports 1 on Friday at 4:30 p.m. will air the Camping World Truck Series race from Kansas. 

• Saturday starts at 6:55 a.m. when www.espn3.com broadcasts Formula 1 qualifying from Monza, Italy. Then at noon the USA network airs the Xfinity race from Kansas. 

      Over on the Peacock network at 2:05 p.m. they show Indy Car Qualifing from Laguna Seca. At 4 p.m. www.mavtv.com has the ARCA race from Kansas. 

      Then at 5 p.m. Fox Sports has the first MotoAmerican Superbike race from Millville.

• Sunday starts off at 4:30 a.m. when ESPN 2 has the Grand Prix of Italy at the historic course located at Monza. Since the factory isn’t too far away this essentially is Ferrari’s home track. 

      Then at 11 a.m. Fox Sports 2 has the second MotoAmerica Superbike race from Millille.

      Next up at noon on the USA Network is the NASCAR Cup race from Kansas. After last week’s engine fire NASCAR made rule changes that hopefully will eliminate that problem.

      The weekend ends at 12:30 p.m. when NBC airs the season ending Indy Car race from Laguna Seca. That area has had some of the coolest temperatures during this past week of it being so hot. After the checkered flag waves this year’s champion will be crowned. 

That’s it for this weekend. If you can do get out to a race as there is nothing like it for excitement, color and speed. If not then be sure to attend a cruise-in or car show this weekend.

Only a few more weeks to get youngsters that race in Motocross signed up for this team.

Another reminder there are only a few more weeks to go if one wants their young motocross racer to sign up with the Moto Mouth Mini Team. This team honors the memories of the late announcer, who always helped the youngest riders.
