RENO, NV (AUG. 31) — Well September is here with the late summer heat. Car meets and cruise-ins are starting to end not to mention racing series are looking at the end of their seasons. It is a time of change.
CAR MEETS:
• Joe Bob’s Chicken House in Sparks is having the Last Bash Car Show/Rock A Billy show Saturday. Starts at 4 p.m. and everyone is welcome.
• Also on Saturday is the Show for Awareness sponsored by the Impalas Car Club. Hours are 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Sun Valley Community Park located at 115 West 6th Avenue. There is a 50/50 drawing, Raffles, Food and Music.
• Sunday is when Reno Cars & Coffee gets the month started. The meet begins at 10 a.m. and location is by the Kietzke Starbucks.
RACING REGIONAL:
• Due to Lovelock Speedway not opening this year there are no oval track events this weekend. There will be some in California but check first as it’s going to be very hot over there and at least one track has canceled.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• Fernley 95A Motorsports Complex will have practice from 4 until dark on Thursday. Then the MX track will be closed this weekend.
• Battle Born Motocross is racing this weekend in Winnemucca. Saturday is for practice while Sunday is race day. This is Round 7 of the 2022 season.
• The current round of the 2022 Pro MX Fall Series will be run at the Argyll MX Track on Sunday. The track is located in Dixon, California.
• MMX has a full schedule through the weekend. On Saturday, from 9 until 2 p.m. there is practice on the Main, Sand and Kids tracks.
Then from 9 until 3 p.m. Sunday on the Vintage, Main, Sand and Kids tracks. On Monday, Labor Day, there will be practice from 9 until 2 p.m. on the Sand and Kids tracks.
• Due to the extreme temperatures Riverfront MX is closed this weekend.
• Prairie City MX is hosting a Sierra Old Timer’s National event. On Friday gates open at 8 a.m. and from 9 until 2 p.m. there will be practice.
Saturday and Sunday are race days. Gates open at 6:30 a.m. with practice starting at 8 a.m. and racing to follow.
• E Street has an advisory to check with them. They will update their schedule due to the weather.
If all goes well there is a MX Clinic scheduled Monday, from 9 until 2 p.m. at E Street MX. Be sure to check first as the expected heat might have an effect on this.
• Just in case I’m putting the phone numbers as the weekend’s heat might change things at the last moment.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• On Thursday Fox Sports 1 at 3 p.m. has NASCAR Race Hub.
• This is also the day the NHRA U.S. Nationals begins but won’t be on TV until Sunday.
• Friday gets rolling at 3:25 a.m. when ESPN2 shows Formula 1 practice at Zandvoort. Then at 6:55 a.m. the network airs the next practice session. Finally at 8:15 a.m. the network has the Formula 1 Show.
• Saturday starts at 5:55 a.m. when ESPN 2 has Formula 1 qualifying. Then the USA Network, at 9:30 a.m. has NASCAR Cup qualifying from Darlington
– The network follows that at noon with the Xfinity race. Over on Peacock at 12:05 p.m. they’ll show Indy Car qualifying from Portland.
• This Saturday the Pro Motocross series ends for the year at Fox Raceway. The 450 Championship and maybe the 250 title will be decided then.
-The action can be seen on www.mavtv.com. First 250 moto is at 1 p.m. followed at 2 p.m. by the first 450 moto. Then at 3 p.m. the second 250 moto begins and the final 450 moto starts at 4 p.m.
• Sunday starts early at 4:30 a.m. when ESPN airs the Formula 1 race from Zandvoort. Then at 10:30 a.m. NBC, on a delayed basis, has MotoGP from Misano.
– Fox Sports 1 at 10 a.m. has NHRA Qualifying Show #1 then at 1 p.m. has the FC All Stars. Then at 2:30 p.m. the network airs the Qualifying Show #2.
– NBC at 12:30 p.m. has the Indy Car race from Portland. The start can be exciting as the cars race into a right-left turn complex.
– At 3 p.m. the Peacock Network airs the NASCAR Cup race from Darlington, also know at the “Track Too Tough To Tame.” This event begins the playoffs that lead to the championship.
– Finally at 6 p.m. mavtv has ARCA Racing from the dirt track at DuQuoin.
• The weekend keeps going into Monday. – From 9 until 11 a.m. Fox Sports broadcasts part of the NHRA U.S. Nationals from Indianapolis. Then from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. FOX takes over and broadcasts the final rounds.
This race starts the Countdown that ends with class championships later this fall. It’s probably one of the largest and most important races of the season.
OTHER RACING NEWS:
• Remember if one has a young rider who races in motocross there is still time to register them in the Moto Mouth Mini Team. They are accepting applications until October 1.
• Teresa’s Garage Radio Show is on the air from 2 until 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. In northwest Nevada, it can be heard over the air at 1060 AM.
There is also a Podcast at amm.streamon.fm or it can be seen live on Face Book. The show is focused on all things automotive, trends, new developments and trivia.
