RACING PREVIEW: AUGUST 25 TO 28

RENO, NV (Aug. 24) — Here we are in the Dog Days of summer and there are still cruises to attend as well as racing in our region. Not to mention racing on TV and the Internet.

 CAR MEETS & CRUISES:

Their last cruise-in is this Friday evening.

• Friday, starting around 5 p.m. is the final cruise-in this summer at Summit Racing Equipment. It’s located on East Glendale in Sparks just across the tracks. 

The Corvette & Camero starts this Thursday at the Grand Sierra.

• There area a couple of multi-day car shows. From Thursday through Sunday the Corvette Chanel presents the Corvette Camaro Invasion at Reno, Nevada. The show is all indoors at the Grand Sierra Hotel and Casino. 

Virginia City Round Up is that Friday and Saturday.

• Up on the Comstock there is the Virginia City Roundup Motorcycle and Classic Truck Show. This time its at the arena and fairgrounds. Should be cooler up there. 

Iron Mafia has Cars & Stripes Classic Car show this Saturday.

• On Saturday the Iron Mafia presents the Cars & Stripes Classic Car Celebration. Location is in front of the Sportsman Warehouse off Moana Lane. Good freeway access, should get going by 10 a.m. and the proceeds benefit the Disabled American Veterans.

• Down in Carson City on Saturday the Nevada Jeep Club it hosting a meet and BBQ at Mills Park. 

• Sparks Cars & Coffee will assemble at 10 a.m. Sunday for its second meet of the month. Location is by the Starbucks off Disc Drive.  

NNVW is having a cruise, open to all types of vehicles, this Sunday. It’s a loop to Tahoe and back.

• There will be a NNVW Hosted Cruise on Sunday and all vehicles are welcome to join. Meeting place is Costa Vida, located at 4965 South Virginia and the cruise to up and through Incline Village then back to I-80 and home. 

RACING (REGIONAL):

• Winnemucca Regional Raceway is hosting a two-day show. Racing starts at 7 p.m. each night and during the intermission they’ll feature UTV’s. 

American Valley Speedway will have races this weekend starting at 7 p.m. Saturday.

• On Saturday American Valley Speedway is in action. Great track and the pits are in the trees; gates open at 5 p.m. with a 7 p.m. start to the heat races. 

NNKC is hosting its only night race of the season on Saturday evening.

• The Northern Nevada Kart Club is having the next race of its point’s season. It’s the only night race they have and the Rick Jerome Memorial honors one of the club’s founders. Action should get going around 5 p.m. with heats starting around 6:30 and many put extra lights on their karts. 

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

The Moto Mouth Mini Team has been reborn. Great place for young motocross racers.

• Years ago many of the young motocross racers belonged to the Moto Mouth Mini Team. Well it’s being reborn so if one has a youngster racing motocross do check this out and sign them up. 

Friday and Saturday are the annual Carson City Outlaw Flat Trac races.

• The biggest race of this week is the annual Carson City Outlaw Flat Trac races. Location is Fuji Park at the south end of Carson City. Gates open at 10 a.m. and the day begins with qualifying plus a blizzard of heats and mains.

Things take a pause around 6 then it’s time for the pros and other big bike classes. Friday is family night and features the annual Firemen and Police race. Saturday the pros will be in action and they have the Duce, which is an elimination race for a pretty good payoff. 

• Saturday, outside of Doyle, California, at Ft. Sage OHV area the Lassen Motorcycle is having its second Diamond Back Team Night Race. I understand this time each lap is 8-miles long.

• Closer to home Fernley 95A Motorsports Complex has practice Thursday from 4 until dark at the motocross track. Then from 8 until 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

• Over the hill E Street MX is having its next Short Course event on Saturday. On Friday practice is from 2 until 9 p.m. then on Saturday gates open at 6 p.m., practice is at 8 and with racing to follow. On Sunday there is open practice from 9 until 2 p.m. using both the front and back courses. 

• Riverfront has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. on Thursday. Then from 9 until 2 p.m. on Sunday. 

• Prairie City has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. 

This weekend is another round of the Pro MX Summer Series.

• This week round 2 of the Pro MX Fall Series will be south down at the track in Hollister. 

• Nothing about MMX racing but the usually post their schedule on Instagram. 

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Fox Sports airs NASCAR Race Hub. Then at 5 p.m. Fox Sports 2 has NHRA in 30. 

• Friday starts at 10:05 when www.espn3.com has the Formula 1 Show from Spa. The team’s summer break is over. 

      The USA Network has four shows that same day. They begin at 11 a.m. with the ARCA Menards Series West racing up at Evergreen in Washington state. 

– Then at noon they broadcast Xfinity qualifying from Daytona International Speedway follow at 2 p.m. by NASCAR Cup qualifying. At 4:30 p.m. the network has the Xfinity race from the high banks at Daytona. 

• Saturday gets rolling at 6.55 a.m. when ESPN2 has Formula 1 qualifying from Spa. Then at 9:55 www.imsa.tv has the first Mazda MX-5 Cup race from Virginia International Raceway. 

      This week the Pro Motocross series at Crawfordsville and again www.mavtv.com will cover it.  

– First 250 moto hits the track at 10 a.m. followed at 11 by the first 450 moto. Then at noon it’s time for the second 250 moto followed at 1 p.m. by the second 450 moto. After this there is only one more round left in the series.

      Finally the day ends at 4 p.m. when NBC covers the NASCAR Cup from Daytona. Might be iffy as this could be a rainy weekend out there. 

• ESPN 2 gets Sunday going at 4:30 a.m. when the broadcast the Formula 1 race from Spa in Belgium. Then at 7:25 a.m. imsa.tv airs the second Mazda MX-5 Cup race from VIR. 

      At 11 a.m. CNBC/Peacock air the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car series race from Virginia International Raceway. Over on mav.tv at noon that network will show the ARCA Racing event from Milwaukee.
