RACING PREVIEW: AUGUST 18 TO 21

RENO, NV (August 17) — Once again a mixed bag of events in Northern Nevada. Not to mention a bunch of on TV and the Internet.

 CAR MEETS & CRUISES:

• Thursday is another off day for cruising. Good time to shine the rig as things get going on Friday.

Next to last cruise-in is this Friday evening.

• Friday is a buffet of different events. Starting around 5 p.m. The next-to-the-last cruise in at Summit Racing will get going. Location is 960 East Glendale Ave., in Sparks.

Once again there will be a Fernley Main Street Cruise on Friday evening.

That same evening, starting by the Fernley Moose Lodge on the west side of town is the next Downtown Fernley Main Street Cruise night. Things get rolling at 6 p.m. as people cruise to the round about then back again. One good thing is gas is less expensive there than here in Reno or Sparks.

This week on Food Truck Friday the Northern Nevada Kart Club will have a booth. Great way to get a meal and find out about kart racing. Location is at Idlewild Park.

Over at Idlewild Park it’s Food Truck Friday. Hours are from 5 until 9 p.m. and the Northern Nevada Kart Club will have a booth by one of the trucks. Great way to find out about the club and kart racing.

On Friday the Douglas County Fair Grounds will have a very different event. It’s a Truck and Tractor Pull. Oh and be sure to bring hearing protection.

That same evening, starting at 6 p.m. there is a tractor and truck pull. Location is the Douglas County Fairground that I believe is located in Minden. Once again great way to take advantage of lower fuel prices.

• On Sunday, Reno Cars & Coffee, starting at 10 a.m. is having its next meet. Location is by the Human Bean Coffee Stand located near the corner of Keitzke and Moana Lane.

There is usually a very good mix of cars and trucks. Best of all, great access from and back to the Freeway.

RACING (REGIONAL):

As the season starts to wind down there is a Friday-Saturday racing show in Elko.

• As the season winds down to the east the Elko Summit Raceway is having a Friday-Saturday show. Gates open at three while the first green flag waves at 6 p.m. each day.

To the east Rattlesnake Raceway hosts another race Saturday night. All the classes will be present and right now there should be a 6 p.m. start to the action.

To the south Tonopah Speedway is hosting the annual Jim Marsh Classic. There is racing both Friday and Saturday and I believe they have a 6 p.m. starting time. Payouts look pretty good.
