RACING PREVIEW: JUNE 23 TO 26

RENO, NV (June 22) — Now it’s officially summer and racing, as well as car meets and cruises, are rolling along. There is something for about everyone this weekend as we head toward the 4th of July weekend.

 CAR MEETS:

This week’s Carson City Thursday Night Cruisers, starting at 5:30 p.m. gathers at the Carson Shopping Center at the south end of town. 

This Friday there is another cruise in at Summit Racing Equipment in Sparks.

• As usual, starting around 5 p.m., Summit Racing Equipment will have its Friday night cruise in. The store is located on East Glendale in Sparks close to the railroad tracks. 

• On Saturday, from 9 until 3 p.m. it’s the Remembering Classics Beach Party Cruise. Location is at Lake Lahontan in the Silver Springs Day use area.

• Sunday will be a busy day as Sparks Cars & Coffee has its second meet of the month, starting at 10 a.m. at the Starbucks on Disc Drive. 

• Another meet in Reno is the Summer Hub for Vdubs at the El Adobe Café on Arroyo Street. Things start at 10 a.m.

• Down south Carson Cars & Coffee, starting at 9:30 a.m. has a Cruise to Tahoe. Gathering point is at 4640 South Carson Street. Nice way to escape the heat. 

• Tahoe Cars & Coffee is going again and from 10 until noon they are having a meet in South Lake Tahoe. Location is the Raleys at 1040 Emerald Bay Road. 

• If wants more cruising remember from 4:30 until 7:30 p.m. on Monday the Pizza Factory in Spanish Springs has their weekly car show.  

RACING (4-WHEEL):

• Battle Mountain Raceway is in action both Friday and Saturday. Racing for the cars start at 7 p.m. both nights. For the Outlaw Karts their racing begins at noon on Saturday. 

The first $5 Saturday is this weekend at Top Gun Dragstrip.

• Saturday is the first $5 Saturday at Top Gun Dragstrip. If a person wants to race $15 will get you as many runs as possible. Gates open at 4 p.m., racing as well as test and tuning goes from 6 p.m. until midnight. 

Saturday is a track workday for NNKC members. The club is getting ready for the KPX event in July.

• Saturday is also a track workday for the Northern Nevada Kart Club. They are getting things ready before the KPX race in July and best way to the track is to use Stead Blvd due to work at Lemmon Drive. 

Last race before the summer break is the weekend when Legacy Racing hosts its next event.

• To the south Legacy Racing his staging the Baja Nevada event. Looks like all classes will be racing as the events won’t resume until after the summer. For further information please check www.legacyracing.net

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

This annual event runs through Saturday. Many riders are racing for those special trophies.

• Of course the biggest happening is the annual Mammoth Motocros that goes ends this weekend. Many riders, depending on their class will be down there.

• Close to home the motocross track at Fernley NightyfiveA will be closed for practice this weekend but reopens next weekend. 

• Over the hill all the tracks have had to raise their fees due to rising fuel costs. So it now costs $40 rather than $30 to practice. 

MMX Racing like the other tracks has had to raise its fees to cover fuel costs.

+ MMX should have practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. 

All the REP Racing MX tracks have had to raise their fees to cover rising fuel costs. That also includes E Street MX Park.

+ E Street MX Park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday on the front and back tracks. 

+ Riverfront MX has practice Thursday from 5 until 10 p.m. then from 9 until 2 p.m. on Sunday. 

+ Prairie City has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. 

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• On Thursday Fox Sports 1 at 3 p.m. has NASCAR Race Hub. 

• Friday gets going at 9:15 when www.imsa.tv starts it coverage from Watkins Glen. They will show the Mazda MX-5 Cup, Porsche Carrera Cup and Lamborhgini Super Trofeo events. 

+ At 5 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the Camping World Truck Series race from Music City or Nashville. Then at 7:30 the net work has the NHRA Qualifying Show #1 from Norwalk, Ohio. 

• Saturday starts at 6:35 when IMSA resumes its coverage of three races from Watkins Glen, New York. At 12:30 p.m. the USA Network airs the Xfinity race from Nashville. 

Over on Fox Sports 2 at 3 p.m. they have MotoAmerica Superbike race from Washington. Then at 6:30 www.mavtv.com has ARCA racing from Elko Speedway in Minnesota.

• Sunday starts at 7:40 a.m. when Peacock airs the start of the IMSA Weather Tech Sports Car race, the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen. Then at 11 a.m. coverage switches to the USA Network. 

+ At 9:30 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA Qualifying Show #2 from Norwalk. At 11:30 a.m., on a delayed basis, CNBC has the MotoGP race from Assen.

+ Last week Fox had good ratings when they showed the final runs of the NHRA event. Well this week they have an encore at the Norwalk Nationals. Fox airs the finals starting at noon so should be another good show. 

+ At 2 p.m. NBC broadcasts the NASCAR Cup race from Nashville. Wonder who will win this week. 

+ Finally at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 2 has the second MotoAmerican Superbike race from Washington.
