STEAD, NV (June 12) — The Northern Nevada Kart Club held the fourth round of its season at their track, Desert Park Raceway. To say it was breezy would be an understatement as many times the “breeze,” seemed more like a gale.
Because of this the barriers on the front stretch were tied to the fence with wire. However one section wasn’t and had to be strapped so it would not be blown onto the front stretch. Some thing this reporter has never seen in all the years I’ve reported these races.
Due to rain earlier the program was changed so after qualifying there was one heat race for each group followed by the main events
As usual the Kid Kart racers went first. Right after the green waved Jameson Judd was on point but soon Davey Jorgenson took over the lead.
They would finish in that order. Kid Kart racers aren’t scored like the other classes, only as finishers and these two youngsters did a great job of getting around the track and not spinning out.
When the green waved for the Heavy LO206 Class main 18 racers stormed off to the first turn. Up front Jake Burchette was on point followed by Eric Kuzemchak, Josh Prater and Brandon Arace.
While Prater and Kuzemchak were dueling for second Bruchette was escaping. Late in the race Kuzemchak was put on the sidelines after contact with Prager.
UP front Burchette was six seconds ahead of the runner up Prater. About a second further back was Arace while fourth place Williams was two seconds further back.
After the post race weigh in Burchette was happy with the race and his victory.
Reporter’s Note: Due to the wind it was impossible to understand what he was saying with my digital recorder. After that I switched to the old fashion way or writing down my notes.
Next up were the Junior 1 racers and on the green Kayden Williams was on point with Jeremiah Nobles and Jeremy Heath giving chase. Soon the lead trio was putting distance between themselves and the rest of the pack.
While Williams was sailing toward the win the duo of Nobles and Heath were putting quite a race. For most of the laps a large blanket could have covered both of their karts.
On the while flag lap Heath used a charge through Turn 1 that gave him second and dropped Nobles to third at the finish. Up front a delighted Williams took the win.
“It was a wonderful way to win,” Williams said later.
He said his only challenge was the wind, as it would push the karts around a bit. Then the thanked his parents KRP Products, K1 Race Suit, Invader and his other sponsors.
Next were the shifter karts, on this day all were using 125cc motors. As usually they use a standing start and when the lights went green Adam Auerbach led with Zach Rivera right behind him.
Soon Rivera grabbed the lead while Auerback soon was involved in the three-way duel for second. He had Zeke Corson and Mitch Kennedy chasing him.
Up front Rivera was on cruise control as he put distance between him self and the three battling for second place.
In the end Rivera won while Auerback reached the checkered with about one tenth of a second advantage over Corson who was two tenths of a second ahead of Kennedy at the finish.
After the weigh in Rivera did say the kart had some problems but he likes it.
“That was fun, I love this class. The kart is a Rock 125 Shifter but I need to work on my starts,” he said.
Then he thanked his father and Nevada Kart Sport, which is the family business. He also expressed his appreciation to Mike Baker, Mitch Kennedy and another person for their continued support.
When the Super Stock main began Alec Beaudoin took off and left everyone in his dust. Behind him Edward Atkins and Nathan Heath were doing their best to chase him
After building up a huge lead Beaudoin eased off. He later confessed to enjoying racing someone more than just running away with a race.
Eventually he let Atkins take the lead but he spun in Turn 5. After that Beaudoin just went into cruise and handily won the race followed by Atkins and Heath
When the green waved on the Junior 2 main Brooks Anderline took off. Chasing him were Andrew Hitchcock, Cooper Perez and Isaiah Nobles.
Soon Anderline was on cruise control while Perez was able to gain second. Hitchcock was now third with Nobles in fourth.
At the end they all finished in that order. Asked about the race Anderline said, “Good race and my first to dominate this year.”
He also thanked his parents was well as Cole Nelson Racing for their support.
Finally as the winds begin to diminish and storm clouds began to show up it was time for the Senior LO206 main. When the green waved 13 out of the 14 racers took off.
Up front Issac Bourque was on point with Giovanni L. Medina right behind him while Bryce Dickman was running a close third.
Finally Dickman took over second and the chase was on. In fact it became a three-way duel for the lead. Eventually Bourque began to leave the other two as he stormed away to claim the victory.
Median ended up second with Dickman third and Heavyn Hill coming home fourth.
After the race Bourque said, “Got the lead and defended it so was able to pull out the win. Have to thank my dad as he built this kart in two weeks.”
Next up for the club is a Track Work Day on June 25. NNKC will host the KPX series on July 9/10. A race that should bring in a lot of California drivers.
