RACING PREVIEW: MAY 26 TO 30

RENO, NV (May 15) — Memorial Day, probably the biggest racing weekend of the year. There is just about something for and car or race fan.

 CAR MEETS:

Summit Racing’s Friday cruise in begins at 4 p.m.

• Things get rolling Friday, from 4 until 7 p.m., when Summit Racing has its Friday Night Cruise. Location is on East Glendale in Sparks.

The annual Summer Salute car show is at Rancho San Rafael. It benefits Honor Flight Nevada and Veteran’s Guest House.

• Saturday, from 9 until 3 p.m. is the Summer Salute Car Show at Rancho San Rafael. There will be peer judging and prizes.

The event benefits both Honor Flight Nevada and the Veteran’s Guest House. Two worthy causes to help these organizations.

• This also the weekend for the Genoa Lakes Rare & Exotic Car show. One calendar shows it happening on Saturday while the poster indicates Sunday. Best bet is to call Jean at 775-220-8438 to find out the actually date and time.

• Be sure to check the Face Book page for Carson Cars & Coffee. They usually only give out short notices so hard to say if they’ll have a meet or not this weekend.

Nevada Jeep Club hosts a Memorial Day Convoy on Monday.

• On Monday the Nevada Jeep Club is hosting a Memorial Day Jeep Convoy. Meeting place is Bully’s Sports Bar, located at 3430 North Carson Street and 10 a.m. is when people start meeting.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

They have racing on Friday and Saturday night this weekend.

• To the East there will be racing Friday and Saturday evening at Elko Summit Raceway. Racing begins at 6 p.m. both nights.

Diamond Mountain Speedway has racing this Friday and Saturday night.

• Closer to Reno, up at Susanville, California, there will be racing Friday and Saturday at Diamond Mountain Speedway. Racing should start at 6 p.m. both nights.

Rattlesnake Raceway has racing Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

• Rattlesnake Raceway, just east of downtown Fallon, has racing as well but with a little twist. Saturday’s show begins at 6 p.m. but Sunday at 4 p.m. is when the second day begins.

Battle Born MS has a three-day event at the road course in Fernley.

• Battle Born MS is having Drifter Vention at the 95A Speedway, the road course, this weekend. It’s a three-day show with drags on Friday night. Saturday and Sunday are when the drifting happens. Usually a good show with much tire smoke and noise as drivers put their cars through its paces.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTORCYCLES):

After last wee’s motocross the motocross track might not have practice this weekend. Best bet is to check Fernley Ninetyfivea Speedway on Facebook. Photo courtsey – Photoflight Productions.

When this was posted not sure if the motocross track at Fernley Ninetyfivea Speedway is open for practice. If not I imagion its to let the track crew get some well deserved rest.

• Over the hill E Street MX has the next round of its short track series for UTV’s. Then on Sunday, from 9 until 2 p.m. the front and back tracks are open for practice.

MMX Racing will have practice Saturday and Sunday and this time on Monday.

• Once again MMX racing will be busy place. There will be practice sessions from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday on the main, sand and kid’s tracks while Sunday’s practice, from 9 until 3 p.m. is on the vintage, sand and kid’s tracks.

The next round of the Summer Sundayz series is this weekend.

On Sunday the main track is reserved for round 3 of this year’s Summer Sundayz series. Saturday evening there will be pit bike races.

The traditional OTHG National round hosted by the Reno Chapter is a Riverfront this weekend.

• Riverfront MX Park will also be busy and as a result there is no Thursday night practice this week. The track is hosting a national event put on by the Reno chapter of  OTHG. Friday morning is for practice then two days of racing on Saturday and Sunday.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday at noon is when Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub Weekend Edition. Earlier at 9 :10 www.espn3.com has the Formula 1 Show from Monaco.

•Friday starting at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has a double header starting with the ARCA Race from Charlotte Motor Speedway. This is followed at 5:30 p.m. when the Camping World Truck Series takes to the track.

• Saturday begins early at 3:55 a.m. when ESPN 2 has Formula 1 practice then at 6:55 a.m. airs Formula 1 qualifying from Monaco.  Over on Fox Sports 1 at 10 a.m. the Xfinity race from Charlotte is broadcast.

This weekend the Outdoor Nationals, now called Pro Motocross begins at Pala. Covering the 250 and 450 motos live is MAVTV. The show begins at 1 p.m.

• Sunday is probably the biggest race day of the year with three iconic events to keep fans occupied.

Make a mistake at Monaco and a wheel willl be torn off the car. This Sunday is the Monaco Grand Prix. Photo courtesy – motorauthority.com.

At 5:55 a.m. ESPN airs the Formula 1 race at Monaco. Here drivers in what are probably the most technology advanced cars race on a course that is hardly changed when drivers in the 1920 raced on it. One has to be inch perfect here or else.

Chris Owens took that great picture of the those racing in this year’s Indy 500.

Then at 9:30 a.m. NBC airs the Indy 500. A 200-lap race of speeds around 200 mph on a two and a half mile track. It’s a show of blazing speed and color.

The NASCAR Cup’s longest race is the Coke 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Photo courtesy – wagehome.com.

After that FOX has the longest race of the NASCAR season. It’s the Coca-Cola 600 where drivers race on the mile and a half oval at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

It’s test of endurance as well as speed. For most teams Charlotte is where they are head quartered so it’s also a turf battle.

Whew, that does it for this weekend. Want to wish all our readers a safe and happy three days.

Be sure to take a moment to remember what Memorial Day is all about.

I also want to ask all of you to take a moment to remember what the day is about. A time to remember veterans that have passed and those that never came home. Peace everyone.
