RACING PREVIEW: APRIL 28 TO MAY 1

RENO, NV (April 27) — This month exits with a flurry of racing in our local area plus across the region. Combine that with what’s on TV and there is something for almost any race fan. 

CAR MEETS & CLEAN UP

If one has time and wants to help clean up our community there is a community clean up on Saturday.

 • Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful are having a community clean up Saturday. They are looking for volunteers to help with the effort. For further information please check their website at, www.ktmb.org

• Sunday starting at 10 a.m. Reno Cars & Coffee is having its first of the month meet at the Kietzke Starbucks. Considering the weather forecasted should be a good turn out of many types of cars, trucks and some motorcycles. 

VW Hub of Northern Nevada is having a benifit on Sunday.

• Also on Sunday, starting at 10 a.m., The VW Hub of Northern Nevada has a meet at the South Virginia Plaza. All years and models are welcome and it benefits CRCCS. 

RACING (4 WHEEL TYPE):

• To the east Elko Summit Raceway has a two-day show to open their 2022 season. Racing should start around 6 p.m. each night. 

• Down in Feather River country American Valley Speedway in Quincy is opening its season Saturday. The racing begins at 6 p.m. with several classes competing. 

NNKC will have its second race of the season at Desert Park Raceway. On line registration is now open.

• On Sunday the Northern Nevada Kart Club is hosting its next race of the 2022 season. To save time on-line registration is now open and qualifying should start around 9 a.m. 

REGIONAL RACING AND PRACTICE (MOTORCYCLES):

The 51st Virginia City Grand Prix will be run Saturday and Sunday. It’s a test of both rider and machine.

• Biggest event this weekend is the Virginia City Grand Prix. Both days the racing begins at 10 a.m. Saturday is for the Pros, Experts and Amateurs. It’s a four-hour timed race for all classes. 

After that, around 4 p.m. at the Fairground, is the Moto Mouth Mini GP for Pee Wee and Mini Bike racers. 

Sunday has a mix of grown up classes racing on the GP course, including a shortened one for some, and while the start time is 10 a.m. this race is a three-hour timed event.

• Fernley Ninety Five Speedway is hosting a national Old Timers’s round this weekend. Friday, open practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday is when the OT National event happens and there will be support races as well. 

The two-day flat show at MMX Racing has been postponed.

• For those planning to go over to MMX Racing for the two-day flat track show, well it has been postponed.  

MMX Racing will have its usual practice schedule this weekend.

• E Street MX Park has practice on the front and back tracks from 9 to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. 

The final round of this year’s Hangtown Shootout 2022 is Sunday at Prairie City.

• The final round of this year’s Hangtown Shootout will be at Prairie City. Saturday practice is from 9 until 2 p.m. then on Sunday, gates open at 6:30 a.m. practice at 8 a.m. and racing to follow. 

Riverfront MX has practice Thursday from 5 until 10 p.m. then from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday on all the tracks. 

On line registration is open for the next round of the MRANN series. For further information go to, www.racemrann.com.

• For those planning on racing in the next MRANN event, May 14/15, online registration is now open. 

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub. A good preview of the upcoming weekend at Dover. Then at 5 p.m. CBS Sports has the Formula E Preview Show from Monaco. 

• Friday at 4 p.m. is when Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA Qualifying Show #1 from Charlotte, North Carolina. 

• Fox Sports 1 at 10:30 a.m. Saturday broadcasts the Xfinity race from Dover International Speedway.

Then at noon NBC and Peacock air the AMA Supercross round from Denver. Can Eli Tomac clinch this year’s 450 championship or will last week’s winner Jason Anderson get closer in points. 

After that, at 6 p.m. CBS Sports has the Formula E race from Monaco. I’m guessing they’ll race on the grand prix course. 

• Sunday begins at 8 a.m. when Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA Qualifying Show #2 from the 4Wide Nationals at Charlotte. Then at 10 a.m. NBC and Peacock air the Indy Car race from Barber Motorsports Park. It’s the last stop before Indianapolis.

At noon Fox Sports 1 has the NASCAR Cup race from Dover International Speedway. It’s the first time the Nextgen cars race on the Monster Mile. 

At that same time NBC and Peacock team up to broadcast the IMSA Weathertech Sports Car race from Laguna Seca. At 3 p.m. CNBC airs the MotoGP event from Jerez, Spain.

The weekend ends with the NHRA Circle K 4Wide Nationals at Charlotte. Here the racers go 4-wide as they burn up the quarter mile. 

That wraps up this busy weekend. If possible do get out and see a race live. There is nothing like it for speed and color. Have a safe weekend everyone.
