WINNEMUCCA MX STARTS BBMX SEASON

WINNEMUCCA, NV (March 13) — The BBMX season opener was hosted by the Winnemucca MX Club. It was a challenging day to say the least.

The club president told this reporter they had 264 riders that accounted for 468 entries since several rode in more than one class. Between the heats and the single Club Moto there were 24 motos in the first session and would be 23 in the second and that’s not counting the heat and LCQ races.

The second 250/450 Pro moto was a duel between veteran Nate Tiearney (173) and Brad Maga.

One close race came in the second 250/450 Sportsman Pro race. After the gate dropped veteran Nate Tiearney took off with Brad Maga in hot pursuit.  Lap after lap they tore around the course with Maga finally taking the lead.

However that was short lived and Tiearney took it back on the white flag lap then went on to score the victory.

The second 40+ C moto featured a race long duel between John Marchant (257) and Chris Padgett.

Another close race was in the second 40+ C moto. At first Chris Padgett was on point until John Marchant caught him  After a duel it was Marchant at the flag with Padgett not far behind him.

Tsiidopi Minder won the 125/250 Sportsman C race.

In the 125/250 Sportsman C second moto Tsiidopi Minder would win.

There was a pretty good field of women racers on hand and Hayden Losey won the A division.

The women’s classes had a pretty good turn out. In the A group Hayden Losey bested runner up Emma Helming. Lilly Powning was the B winner while the C winner was Anna McMillen. Good to see the field of 20 women taking to the track.

Luke Kunkel was one of the double winners as he topped the 85cc Open and 10-14 Supermini classes.

There was a trio of riders that scored double victories during the day. Luke Kunkel won in 85cc Open as well as in the 10 to14 Supermini division.

Kevin Roberts was another double winner scoring victories in both the 65cc, 10 and up as well as the 85cc, 12 and under divisions.

Ducati Fayet scored wins in both the 50cc, 6 & Under as well as the 50cc Open classes. Kalvin Roberts was another double winner as the topped both the 65cc Open as well as the 85cc, 12 and under divisions.

There was only one Club moto and Tyler Pizorno won it.

Due to the amount of riders there was only one Club Moto and Tyler Pizorno was the run away winner of that moto.

For most of the day one challenge the riders faced was the cold temperatures. Some tried it without a jacket but they soon got one for the second go around.

Another challenge was the wind. More than a few related some exciting moments while sailing over the jumps.

During the second motos at least two riders got rides to the local hospital. Their conditions were unknown when this article was posted but thankfully, except for a few spills, the rest got through the day.

With so many riders on hand a few classes had heat races and even a LCQ to set the final field. Despite this the local club did a creditable job handling the day and were able to get it all done in only nine hours. Probably a good thing it was the first daylight savings time day this year.

Now everyone gets a few weeks off until the next BBMX race. That will be on the weekend of April 2/3 when the races happen over at the Riverfront MX track in Northern California.
