MUD FEST AND SPARKS CARS & COFFEE

SPARKS, NV (Jan. 23) — This weekend there was a double header, two very different events that appealed to very different car and truck people.

Of course where there is mud, there will be Jeeps like this one.

Things got started Saturday when several hundred gathered around a huge pond off Chickadee Road, in the back of Lemmon Valley. It was Mud Fest 2022 and there was plenty of mud to go around as well as music and concessions.

UTV’s also got into the action at Mud Fest.

Taking up the challenge was mix of 4X4 Pick Ups, 4X4 SUV’s, Jeeps and even UTV’s. The driver’s of those got a mud bath as well for their efforts.  All in all everyone was having a good time.

Hopefully anyone that got stuck was pulled out when the event ended.

• On Sunday Sparks Cars & Coffee had its second meet of the month. As usual it was close to Buffalo Wild Wings in Sparks and the turn out was pretty good.

In the mix at the Sparks Cars & Coffee meet was this C8 Corvette and Porsche.

There was a good mix of cars. One pair was a C8 Corvette with a Porsche parked right beside it.

Avery Ralston and his C10 Chevy truck.

Many times at these meets there are examples of older vehicles that people have breathed new life into. One of them was a shiny 1960 Chevrolet C10 pickup owned by Avery Ralston.

The motor in Ralston’s C10 pick up.

“It has a 6 liter bottom end, a LS3 Top End with LS3 heads and intakes as well as a Sloppy Space 2 cam, 373 gears, a 3500 stall and 373 gears, “he said. “I reupholstered it, put new paint on it and changed the brakes. Basically it’s a work in progress.”

He’s also installed remote starting as well as electric windows and locks.

A trio of Mustangs were on display.

There were also some Mustangs of various types. Two of them had their hoods up so one could see the motors.

Another car getting a lot of interest was a shiny, black 1987 Buick Grand National. It’s owned by Anthony and Rosalina May and he bought it a month ago. This is actually the second one he’s owned.

“I sold mine in 2010 or 2011 and it’s one of those cars that leaves a little imprint on your brain,” he said.

That imprint became a desire to own one of these cars again so he started looking.

“I put a want ad out in Face Book on the Buick forum,” he said. “A guy in Eldorado Hills replied and here I am. A month later I got one with low miles, nice shape and 63 thousand original miles.

Turbocharged motor in the Buick Grand National.

“It’s pretty stock, got a chip, aftermarket exhaust. These cars are pretty hot, pretty quick and have a turbocharged V-6.”

While he’s keeping it pretty stock there are a couple of things that will be changed.

“The exhaust, I’m not too happy with so probably will change it. When I had mine it had a different system, not too crazy loud and a better sound. Then I’m going to add a better sound system and just enjoy it.”

This coming weekend is the fifth Sunday of the month so have to see what is going to happen. That will be in Thursday’s preview article.
