JEEP PARADE OF LIGHTS & CARS FOR TOTS

RENO, NV (DEC. 19) — Two very different events this weekend. Saturday found the Nevada Jeep Club staging a Parade of Lights and convoy through downtown Carson City. Sunday is when Reno Cars & Coffee had the third annual Cars & Toys at Muscle Motors.

Things got rolling Saturday evening in front of Carson City Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram. That’s where members of the Nevada Jeep Club lined up and decorated their vehicles.

Matt Bruback founded the Nevada Jeep Club and organized their parade of lights through Carson City.

Asked about this Matt Bruback said, “I’m the founder of the Nevada Jeep Club. So tonight we’re honoring Christ and having a Jeep Christmas Parade, lighting up Carson City tonight with our Jeeps. The Carson City Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep Ram dealership just super supportive of the Nevada Jeep Club. We’re just grateful they’re providing coco and cookies tonight, wonderful group of people.”

The Grinch also was part of the Jeep Club parade of lights.

In the line up were the Grinch and a family decorated in matching costumes. Plus others were putting lights on their Jeeps.

One family in the Nevada Jeep Club came in costume.

The parade began around 5:30 p.m. as they headed north up Carson Street. Going past the Legislative complex even Santa was in the parade.

After the reached Bully’s the convoy turned around and headed south to their final destination before dinner.

• Sunday got going when Reno Cars & Coffee joined forces with Muscle Motors for the third annual Cars for Tots. They asked people to bring an unwrapped toy to benefit Ashlee’s Toy Closet.

Muscle Motors manager Travis May sits in his truck as is being filled with donated toys.

Explaining the function Muscle Motors manager Travis May said, “This is the third year in a row we’ve done it. We just want to make sure we give back to the community as we all are pretty blessed with our lives. Want to make sure kids can get start off finding their passion, whether it be cars or anything like that.

The entire staff at Muscle Motors was involved in the Cars for Tots event.

“We just want to help out anyone that is a little less fortunate than we are. I can’t complain, there’s a lot of people I know as they are pretty much all familiar faces, they always show up and give out to the community. I think they’re going to fill my truck up to the brim. Everything is awesome.”

John Mori takes one of the many toys donated. Each person that donated got a raffle ticker.

All of his staff got involved including one of them making a video of the event.  Toys donated were handed to John Mori, who put them into May’s truck and by the end it would be full.

Muscle Motors was surrounded by all types of cars during the Cars for Tots event.

The parking lot was a mix of exotic to contemporary and about everything in between. For a car lover, no matter what type they were interested in; it was a real feast for the eyes.

One vintage standout was a 1955 Pontiac Chieftain, owned by Hugo Tafel, that has a history of its own.

“This was the product of part of a TV show that actually lasted two seasons and was called ‘Lords of the Car Hoards,” he said. It’s sort of a mix of some modern stuff and trying to keep it somewhat stock but it’s modified a bit. Still has the original engine, that has about 60,000 miles on it.”

Once again the car culture of this area came together to help the disadvantaged as well as making a child’s Christmas something special.
