RENO, NV (Nov. 24) — It’s Thanksgiving weekend and most racing, except for two international series, has a time out. Despite the lull there are things going on car people and racers can enjoy.
CAR MEETS:
• Saturday has both a meet and a cruise. Fallon Cars & Coffee gets the weekend rolling with their meet at Telegraph Coffee & Tap located at 1805 W. Williams Ave. It begins at 9:30 a.m. and goes until noon.
• Carson Cars & Coffee has an evening cruise starting at 7 p.m. The starting point is at 12000 U.S. Highway 50 East. The cruise goes up and through Virginia City ending at the Maverick Station at the bottom of Geiger Grade.
+ No word if anything is planned for Friday.
• Sparks Cars & Coffee has its second meet of the month starting at 10 a.m. Sunday. Location is by Buffalo Wild Wings, not far from the Target Store.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• This is the weekend for the Red Bull Day in the Dirt down at Glen Helen Raceway in Southern California. There will be several local riders competing in this three-day event.
• Locally Fernley NightyfiveA Motorsports Complex has practice sessions on both of its motocross tracks. Hours are from 9 until 2 p.m. There will be camping from Friday until Sunday night.
However don’t know if there will be practice on Friday.
• MMX Racing has a full schedule for this weekend starting on Friday and going through Sunday afternoon. The Vintage track on Sunday will be for OSMX ride day.
• REP Racing also has practice sessions on both of its tracks. Prairie City will have sessions from 9 until 2 Saturday and Sunday. Riverfront is closed Thursday, both Friday and Saturday are for private practice sessions while on Sunday, from 9 until 2 p.m. there is open practice on all tracks.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• Although we’re going into the Re-Run Zone there is still some international racing happening.
• Thursday at 11 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub, the Championship Season Review. Soon there will be the annual awards banquet.
• Friday is empty so it’s a good time to check www.youtube.com for highlights of any races one might have missed.
• Saturday on www.motortrendondemand.com at 3:30 a.m. has the FIA World Touring Car Championship event from Sochi.
• Sunday gets rolling early 12:50 a.m. when motortrendondemand has race 1 for the FIA Touring Car Championship. Then at 2:50 a.m. the network will broadcast the second race.
+ At 9:25 a.m. ESPN 2 airs the Formula 1 race from Saudi Arabia. The point’s race has tightened up so every race and point is important.
• Hitting the Re-Run Zone one can check with www.mavtv.com. On Sunday the line up begins at 10 a.m. with Southwest Short Track Racing then at 11 there is Race Max Motor Sports.
At noon the network airs the Lucas Oil Motor Sports Hour followed by King of the Elements, then Short Track America and at 3 p.m. Super Cup Stock Car Series. The also have other programs of all types so be sure to check those out.
