RENO, NV (Sept. 15) — As we head toward the end of summer racing is still going strong. Not only in this region but across the country with some overseas.
CAR MEETS:
• There are a pair of meets on Sunday but since Carson Cars & Coffee has pop up events it’s always a good idea to check their Face Book page if one lives down there.
• Reno Cars & Coffee has its next meet Sunday starting at 10 a.m. The location is the Human Bean Coffee stand located by the intersection of Kietzke and Moana Lane. It’s close to the freeway so there is easy access.
• Another event is sponsored by the Northern Nevada Classics. It’s the Hounds and Hot Rods Show & Shine for charity, the SPCA actually and all makes are welcome. Location is Baldini’s Casino located at 865 South Rock Blvd. and the show runs from 9 a.m. until 3 in the afternoon.
RACING (REGIONAL):
• Top Gun Dragstrip ends its season with a three-day show. It’s the final $5 Friday for spectators but for just $15 more one can make as many runs on the strip as they can. And it’s the last time to grudge against friends.
Saturday and Sunday, starting at 9 a.m. they’ll runs rounds 9 and 10 of the Summit ET and Junior Dragster classes. There’s also the NHRA TV Challenge Top Gunner Shoot-Out as well as the weekend long Mopars vs the World competition.
On Sunday, in addition to the Mopars vs the World they’ll also have “Kind of the Track 2021” competition. The track will also have a special guest, Shirley Shahan, known as the Drag-On Lady. She was the first woman to win a NHRA national event and will be signing autographs.
• To the east the Winnemuca Regional Raceway ends its season with a Friday-Saturday show. Its for all classes and racing should begin around 7 p.m. each evening.
• To the south, Tonopah Speedway ends its season Saturday. I believe racing there begins around 6 p.m.
• This is also the week for the Reno National Championship Air Races at Stead Airport. They will be racing everyday through Sunday. It’s the only place on the planet where several classes of aircraft race each other.
RACING AND PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• This weekend round 8 of the Battle Born MX season is held at Carlin, Nevada. Saturday is for practice while Sunday is race day.
• Over the hill there are two races. Round 4 of the 2021 Pro Motocross Fall Series winds up at the Argyll MX track. Saturday is for practice while Sunday is race day.
• MMX Racing should have practice session from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday on the main, sand and kid tracks then on Sunday, from 9 until 3 p.m. with the vintage track added to the mix.
• This week Prairie City has practice sessions from 9 until 2 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
• Riverfront MX Park is hosting the AMA District 36 GP. There is practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday while Friday is for camping.
Saturday is for practice with gates opening at 8 a.m. and practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday gates open at 6 a.m. with the first race starting at 7:30 and these motos are 45-minutes long. One needs to be either an AMA or District 36 member but one-day memberships are available.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Fox Sports 1 airs NASCAR Race Hub then at 3:30 p.m. the network shows the 2021 ARCA race from Bristol and at 6 p.m. the Camping World Truck Series race from the same track. At 5:30 p.m. Fox Sports 2 has NHRA in 30
• Friday is pretty slim but at 4:30 p.m. NBC Sports airs the Xfinity race from Bristol. Its also a good day to check with www.youtube.com for highlights from races one may have missed.
• Saturday brings one of the wildest NASCAR Cup races when the series tackles the high banks of Bristol. NBC Sports has it at 4:30 p.m. and the race is akin to rocket ships in a bathtub.
Then at 6:30 p.m. go to You Tube and look for Madera Speedway. They will live stream three races that are being recorded for MAVTV.
Fox Sports 2 gets into the mix at 8 p.m. when their air the MotoAmerican Superbike race from Barber Motorsports Park in Bermingham, Alabama.
• Sunday starts at 7 p.m. when Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA qualifying show #1 from Charlotte. Then at 9 a.m. Fox Sports 2 has another MotoAmerica Superbike race from Barber Motorsports Park followed at 3 p.m. with another race but this time on Fox Sports 1.
Fox, at 11 a.m., has the finals from the NHRA Carolina Nationals at Charlotte. This should be a 4-wide event and is another round of the Countdown to the Championships.
Over on NBC at 12:30 p.m. they show the Indy Car race from Laguna Seca. Once again you can see drivers roar down the famous cork screw turn.
Finally the day ends as NBC Sports has two same day delayed broadcasts. The first at 3 p.m. is the MotoGP race from Misano and at 4:30 p.m. its the World Superbike race from Catalunya.
